Cross Asset Management Revamped Revisiting Asset Manager NT and PT Presented by : Jose Aldayuz, PE 2014 IHEEP Conference New Orleans
Acknowledgements National Cooperative Research Program (NCHRP) AASHTO Joint Software Development Program
Presentation Outline Asset Manager Tools Description MAP-21 Requirements Asset Management Plan Development Risk Based Prioritization Potential Risk Based Inspection Scheduling Performance Measure Driven What is being done to support cross asset management? What needs to be done? Questions
Asset Management Tools Description Network Tool (AssetManager NT) Program Tool (AssetManager PT) Long-Term (up to 20 years) Analysis based on Aggregate Performance Results from Management Systems Intended to Support Resource Allocation Tradeoffs Short-Term (1-3 years) Analysis based on Candidate Projects Intended to Support Understanding of Program Adjustment Consequences & Tradeoffs Flexible Definitions of Performance Measures Flexible Ways of Dividing up the System based on Geographic & Network Classes Both Intended to Show Outcomes for Different Investment Levels and Allocations Across Assets and Portions of the System
Asset Manager NT What happens if we make an across-the-board 30 percent decrease in both pavement and bridge investment levels? What happens if we increase funding for the bridge program by 20 percent and make a corresponding reduction in the pavement program? What happens if we spread pavement and bridge funding evenly across different districts what would be the resulting impact on remaining life or backlog of work? What happens to the condition of non-nhs facilities if we focus 75 percent of the resources on the NHS?
Asset Manager PT How much work by category does the program represent, and how do these work quantities compare to the amount and distribution of work types needed to achieve the desired long-term strategy for asset preservation? If we include minor capacity and safety improvements with our pavement rehabilitation projects on a given corridor, how many miles of resurfacing would we need to cut from the program A delay in a major project is resulting in an additional $500,000 for the program period what are the best options for spending these funds? What happens if we shift funds from pavement preservation into bridge rehabilitation program categories?
