1 Dropbox (Free)- Dropbox is a great file storage application that saves your documents using the cloud, and makes them available anywhere you are connected to the Internet. The Dropbox App, available in all of the App Stores, also allows you to save specific files to the device, allowing access even without an internet connection. When you sign up for an account, you receive 2GB of free space and you can put any document format in the folder. Then you can access the files using your Dropbox app on your Android, ipad or any mobile device. The only catch is that you will not be able to edit the documents from the tablet app, only from your computer. But you can still view and read the documents. Most of the Microsoft Office products can be read on your tablet, as well as all PDFs. SkyDrive (Free)- SkyDrive is Microsoft s cloud storage application and is available on all the major tablets as well as your PC. How is this useful? Like Dropbox, you can access your documents anywhere to view. However, you will only be able to view them, not edit. When you sign up for SkyDrive, you receive 7GB of free cloud storage. Google Drive (Free)- Google s cloud storage is also a great option. It is also available on all the major tablets and you automatically receive 15GB of free storage with your Gmail Account. In addition, Google Docs and Google Drive work together, so you can create a document using Google Drive on your ipad or any other tablet and it will automatically be available in your Google Drive. In addition to creating a document, you can also create an spreadsheet, all from your tablet. Another nice thing about Google Drive s connection with Google Docs: all Google Docs can be saved and turned into Word Documents.

2 Notes (Free)- Notes comes installed on all ios devices. It is a convenient and quick tool that allows for easy note taking. It is backed up on the icloud. If you have multiple ios devices, the notes can sync between them for access on all your devices, if you have that feature turned on. Evernote (Free)- This is a great note taking app for all tablet devices and your PC, with applications available for Android, ios and Windows. And your notes sync between your devices so your notes are always available. Penultimate (Free)- If you use Evernote, you might find Penultimate to be a useful tool. This app allows you to take handwritten notes on your ipad and sync them with your Evernote account. You can insert photos in the app, your notes and it keeps them organized. You can also set it up to associate your location with a specific notebook. OneNote (Free)- Microsoft s OneNote is not a very commonly used app, but the usefulness may increase as Office 365 continues to grow. With it being the only Microsoft Office app available, it is worth mentioning as it syncs with Microsoft s SkyDrive and opens on your PC in OneNote. Just open your notes via SkyDrive and you can access the notes, and if necessary, copy and paste it into a Word Document. Notability ($2.99)- This app is great for taking notes on your ipad, iphone, or ipod Touch. With Notability, you can take notes using a stylus, finger, or the integrated keyboard. You can record a lecture to refer to later and it syncs with the major file storage applications (Dropbox, Google Drive and Sky Drive) so the notes you create are accessible anywhere.

3 As we know, presenting from your tablet using Microsoft s PowerPoint is not available, but that doesn t mean options haven t been created to allow us to use our tablets to present with. Here are a few options that are available: Keynote ($9.99)- Keynote is an app designed by Apple that allows the user to present using their ipad or even their iphone. You can create presentations within the app, or using icloud.com. It is fairly streamlined and user friendly, but also has many options in the creation of your presentation, including transitions and inserting media. Electric Slide (Free)- Electric slide is a web-based app that converts your files online and provides you a URL to the presentation. The app version allows you to download the presentation onto your tablet if you are going to be with out an internet connection. While it maintains your formatting, you will not be able to edit your presentation. Once it is on your device, all that is left is connecting it to a projector or television using an HDMI or VGA adapter. SlideShark (Free)- While this app doesn t allow you a lot of upload space, requires an internet connection, and no ability to edit the presentation once it is uploaded, it is a great app for presenting on your tablet using a PowerPoint presentation. It acknowledges transitions and embedded video (as long as their in a WMV or AVI format). You can even download the app to your phone and use it as a remote.

4 CloudOn (Free) This app allows you to create, edit and present but requires a Dropbox account and an internet connection. Simply upload your presentations. Creating documents doesn t stop at slides either. It has a spreadsheet option and a word document option as well. Educreations (Free) - This app is a lot like a whiteboard with many of the same options. While it isn t ideal for slide show presentations, it is worth noting a great tool for a projector. It could be especially useful for brainstorming, and 4H group playing Pictionary. Prezi (Free) Prezi is a new way of creating presentations and is available on Android and ios devices. The app allows you to create presentations as though you are signed into their website, but from your tablet. You can then present your Prezi from your device! The major drawbacks is having to learn an entirely new presentation program and to access a presentation you created on your computer will not be available if you don t have Wi-Fi. Also, creating a Prezi on a tablet may be time consuming. But, if you are up for anything, give Prezi a try! It s a fun, new way to present!

5 Calendar (Free) - The Calendar app comes installed on all ios devices (ipad, iphone, ipod Touch). It syncs and saves your calendars to icloud, and you can sync a personal calendar with it as well. For example, if you have a calendar associated with your Gmail account, or your OSU Exchange Calendar. You can set up an event alert so you don t forget an appointment and add an address in the location that automatically opens Apple Maps when selected. Adobe Reader (Free) - E-readers are common apps on many tablet devices. Adobe Reader is a free e-reader that allows you to read PDF documents on your device, take notes within the app and highlight text. It works a lot like the Adobe Reader on your computer. It also stores your PDF s in the app so you can access them anywhere. Open documents from your , Dropbox or even online. Reminders (Free) - Another app that comes on ios devices is Reminders. It is a basic app great for making lists and setting reminders for things you do not want to forget. You can set it up to remind you at a specific time, or even enter an address and receive a reminder when you arrive. Reminders is great for anything from a to do list to a grocery list. Wunderlist (Free) - A great app for making lists that is not only for ios devices but is also available for Android. There is also an option for sharing lists with co-workers, friends and family if they have the app and account. Documents to Go ($9.99 or $16.99 for premium ) - This app allows you to create and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. You can also create documents from within the app and then transfer them to your computer.

6 Google has a variety of great apps. While a Gmail account isn t required for most of them, having one allows you to sync your accounts to your tablet so you can have access to your bookmarks, saved maps and more. Here are a few of the Google Apps you may want to consider. Google Chrome (Free) - Google s web browser, Chrome allows you to log in with your Gmail account and your bookmarks are available on your tablet. This is especially useful if you are on the go and have bookmarks you want to be able to access anywhere! Google Maps (Free) - Google Maps may be one of the most reliable map choices available. Now, you can save your addresses using your Gmail account. Once saved, your addresses are available anywhere you log in, including your tablets (as long as you have the app installed). Google Drive (Free) - Google Drive is a great file storage option. You can upload documents from your PC or in Google Docs and they will be available in the Google Drive app. The app also has an option for creating documents and spreadsheets! These can then be accessed on your PC and transferred into a Word document.

7 Keynote ($9.99)- Keynote is an app designed by Apple that allows the user to present using their ipad or even their iphone. You can create presentations within the app, or using icloud.com. It is fairly streamlined and user friendly, but also has many options in the creation of your presentation, including transitions and inserting media. imovie ($4.99) - This app by Apple allows you to edit video and even create movie trailers. It can be a little complex, but if you take the time to learn it, it s worth considering. iphoto ($4.99)- This app allows for photo editing. You can upload your photos directly from your device. The editing options range from removing red eye to adjusting color contrasts. Numbers ($9.99) - If you have ever wanted to create a spreadsheet on your ipad, this one is worth considering. Accessing them on icloud.com, allows you to transfer them into excel if desired. Pages ($9.99)- Pages allows you to create documents on your ipad. It is also available through the icloud. ** These apps are to be free on NEW devices as for September 2013

Find Friends (Free) - This app allows you to pinpoint someone s location. To use it, the person must accept the invitation. What is nice about this app, temporary friend groups can be created which could be useful on a trip and needing to keep track of someone or group when you have to split up. Reminders (Free) - Another app that comes on ios devices is Reminders. It is a basic app great for making lists and setting reminders for things you do not want to forget. You can set it up to remind you at a specific time, or even enter an address and receive a reminder when you arrive. Reminders is great for anything from a to do list to a grocery list. ipad Secrets ($2.99) - While this app isn t by Apple, it is worth nothing here as it is full of tips and tricks that apply to the ipad. It will show you some of the options available in the device and how to get the most out of your purchase. (iphone Secrets is also available) Find iphone (Free) - This app is great if your device is stolen or lost. It is set up through your Apple ID and the icloud. If your device disappears, you can log into any computer, phone or tablet and locate the exact position of your iphone or ipad (as long as the device is powered on).
