1 Ref No: JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: MTO in Decontamination Engineering (2 posts) BAND: 4 DEPARTMENT: LOCATION: REPORTS TO: RESPONSIBILITY TO: Estate Management Department Craigavon Area Hospital (initially) the post holder will be required to work from and at any of the facilities within the Southern Trust. Senior Medical Technical Officer (Decontamination) Decontamination Technical Services Manager JOB SUMMARY: The post holder will support and assist the Decontamination Technical Services Manager (Authorised Person) or deputy manager in the delivery of an efficient and effective high quality medical and specialist equipment management service for Trust wide decontamination equipment. The post holder will undertake servicing, testing, validation, maintenance and sending for repair of medical, decontamination and specialist equipment, in line with Trust procedures. POST DUTIES: Duties and Responsibilities 1. Carry out the recommended daily and weekly routine testing procedures on large porous load and laboratory sterilizers in accordance with HTM 2010, washer disinfectors in accordance with HTM 2030 and Automated Endoscope Reprocessors in accordance with HTM 2030.
2 2. Follows Permit to Work system for decontamination equipment as described in HTM Undertakes Periodic testing and service of reverse osmosis water treatment plants. 4. Repair and maintenance of porous load sterilizers, washer disinfectors and Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AERs). 5. Carry out water sampling of AERs and reverse osmosis water treatment plants using aseptic non-touch techniques. 6. Ensures water and other samples in preparation for dispatch to testing laboratories is properly handled, stored and packaged. 7. Carry out corrective action using chemical disinfectants on Automatic Endoscope reprocessors and reverse osmosis water treatment systems and maintain accurate records regarding this corrective action. 8. Repair and maintenance of any other decontamination equipment as required. 9. Understand and interpret standard technical drawings and specifications and maintenance manuals 10. Maintain appropriate stock levels of raw materials and order as required. 11. Comply with all written and verbal instructions in accordance with Health & Social Safety 1978 NI Order, Trust and Departmental guidance procedures, Health Service Guidance Notes and ensure compliance with the requirements of Medical Devices and Equipment Management for Hospitals and Community based organisations. 12. Carry hospital pager / mobile phone and respond to urgent requests promptly. 13. Maintain a computerised maintenance and work record for each piece of plant and equipment 14. Filing of completed test records and laboratory reports. 15. Assist in the provision of a planned preventive maintenance service to the Trust. 16. Liaise with and assist other members of Estate Services Department with regard to decontamination equipment.

Undertake training/updating as part of continued professional development programme and attend in-service training as required to maintain Competent Person status and to keep abreast of current technological developments relevant to post. 18. Carry out steam analysis sampling and measuring of conductivity levels in the steam used in the sterilizing process. 19. Carry out minor repairs and adjustments to delicate medical and plant instruments within Decontamination. 20. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Senior Medical Technical Officer. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS The post holder will be required to: 1. 4 accessible to the general public, with limited exception, under the Freedom of Information act 2000 the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Data Protection Acts Employees are required to be conversant with the Trusts policy and procedures on records management and to seek advice if in doubt. 7. Take responsibility for his/her own ongoing learning and development, including full participation in KSF Development Reviews/appraisals, in order to maximise his/her potential and continue to meet the demands of the post. 8. Represent the Trust s commitment to providing the highest possible standard of service to patients/clients and members of the public, by treating all those with whom he/she comes into contact in the course of work, in a pleasant, courteous and respectful manner. 9. Available / able to work any 5 days out of 7 over the 24 hour period, which may include on-call / stand-by / sleep-in duties, shifts, night duty, weekends and Public Holidays if required immediately on appointment or at a later stage following commencement in response to changing demands of the service. 10. Understand that this post may evolve over time, and that this Job Description will therefore be subject to review in the light of changing circumstances. Other duties of a similar nature and appropriate to the grade may be assigned from time to time. 5 PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION JOB TITLE Medical Technical Officer Decontamination Band 4 DIRECTORATE SALARY HOURS Performance and Reform 18,652 21,798 per annum 37.5 per week which will include alternate weekend working (i.e. 7.5 hours Saturday and Sunday) with two days off the following week. May also be required to work hours over the 24 hour/ 7 day period (including on call) and/ or shift duty as required. Ref No: February 2013 Notes to applicants: 1. The stage in the process when the criteria will be measured is stated below; The following are essential criteria which will initially be measured at Shortlisting Stage although may also be further explored during the interview stage; 1. BTEC ONC or equivalent in either electrical, mechanical, electronic or biomedical engineering and a minimum of 1 years experience (in the last 6 of working with either medical, electrical, electronic, mechanical equipment including servicing, maintaining and fault finding down to component level. OR Recognised apprenticeship with City & Guilds in either electrical mechanical or electronic and a minimum of 3 years experience (in the last 5) of working with either medical or electrical/ electronic equipment including servicing, maintaining and fault finding down to component level.
6 2. Hold a full current driving license valid for use in the UK and have, on appointment, access to a car 1 The following are essential criteria which will be measured during the interview stage. 3. Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel or equivalent 7. Ability to work as part of a Team. 8. Good organisational skills with an ability to prioritise own workload. 9. Knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation such as Health & Safety Act, COSH etc. 10. Flexible with regard to working arrangements to meet the needs of the service to include being available to work hours over the 24 hour/7 day period (including on-call) and/or shift duty as required. DESIRABLE CRITERIA these will only be used where it is necessary to introduce additional job related criteria to ensure files are manageable.
