California State University, Fullerton College Readiness Initiatives EAP, ERWC/SMI, EPT/ELM, & Early Start Presented By: The Early Assessment Program Larry Rivera Chapa, MBA Early Assessment Program Coordinator California State University, Fullerton
Agenda Early Assessment Program What students need to know for Spring 2014 CSU College Readiness Initiatives New Online Resources
Early Assessment Program (EAP): The EAP seeks to help reduce the number of entering first-time freshmen who need remediation in math and English. By providing opportunities to help students achieve college readiness, we can help them to avoid the placement tests at the CSU and participating community colleges. As a result, these students will begin taking college level math and English courses in their first semester.
Early Assessment Program Exam Are there any major changes for students? NO EAP Exam: free voluntary test administered in the11 th grade in conjunction with the California Standards Test (CST).
The Early Assessment Program Spring semester of Junior year across the state: California Standards Test (CST) EAP Exam Components 45 of the 60 questions on the CST (75%) 15 extra questions in *math & English after the test English only: an essay A student s result is determined from the above components *To take the EAP Exam in math, a student must be eligible for Intermediate Algebra
Check EAP Results Online If a student released their scores Then they can check their results online! *Students Log in with their CSU Mentor Username and Password Also located on STAR results
What Do the EAP Test Results Mean? Ready for CSU College-Level Courses Exemption from the CSU Placement Test Requirement! Enroll in college level classes. Star Report Number: 1 Ready for CSU college-level courses Conditional Student will need to take an approved English/math class in their Senior year Star Report Number: 2 Not yet demonstrating readiness for CSU college-level English courses Unable to avoid exemption through EAP Star Report Number: 3
Conditional Status Senior Year Experience Options English AP English Honors English (as noted on the UC A-G List) IB Baccalaureate English ERWC Math Trigonometry Math Analysis Pre-Calculus Calculus AP Calculus AB AP Calculus BC AP Statistics AP Physics Algebra II (repeat) *Most courses with Alg II prereq This program helps you to measure your readiness for college, specifically in math and English

GOAL to reduce remediation and increase the number of students entering College Ready!
Early Start Students final opportunity to Become College Ready before their First Fall Semester at the University Early Start requires incoming first time freshman who do not demonstrate readiness for college-level math and/or English to begin remediation during the summer before coming to the CSU. The goal of Early Start is to better prepare students in math and English before their first semester, thereby improving their chances of completing a college degree.
