Minimum grade of C (2.0) in BIOL 215 and BIOL 230. (An AP Biology score of 5 can be substituted for UCSC s BIOL 20A and 20B) 2. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in CHEM 210 and CHEM 220. (An AP Chemistry score of 5 can be substituted for CHEM 1A) 3. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following course: MATH 241 or MATH 251. (An AP Calculus AB score of 4 or 5, or an AP Calculus BC score of 3,4, or 5 can be substituted for Math 241 or Math 251). Note: Students who have not yet completed a course in calculus may still qualify for the Biology B.A. major. 4. A minimum grade point average of 2.0 in the above major-preparatory courses. By the end of summer 2015, a student must have completed at least BIOL 215 and CHEM 210 with a minimum grades of C (2.0) or applicable AP exam credit (listed above). All other course requirements must be listed as either in-progress or planned on the TAG application, showing completion no later than the end of the spring 2016 term. While not required for selection, junior-level transfer students are strongly encouraged to complete the calculus series: MATH 242 or MATH 252 & MATH 253, and the complete biology series (BIOL 215 & BIOL 230) for their intended major prior to enrolling at UCSC. FOR THE FOLLOWING BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES MAJORS: BIOLOGY (BS), HUMAN BIOLOGY, MOLECULAR CELL AND DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY, NEUROSCIENCE 1. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in BIOL 215 and BIOL 230. (An AP Biology score of 5 can be substituted for UCSC s BIOL 20A and BIOL 20B). 2. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in CHEM 210 and CHEM A minimum grade point average of 2.30 in the above major-preparatory courses. By the end of summer 2015, a student must have completed at least BIOL 215 and CHEM 210 with at least a 2.5 between those two courses. If a student is using an AP score to meet the introductory biology sequence, a minimum grade of C+ (2.5) is required for CHEM 210. All other course requirements must be listed as either in-progress or planned on the TAG application, showing completion no later than the end of the spring 2016 term. While not required for selection, junior-level transfer students are strongly encouraged to complete courses equivalent to Biology 215(not required for the Human Biology major) (consult counselor if received a 5 on AP Biology exam), (MATH 241 or MATH 251) AND (MATH 242 or MATH 252 & MATH 253), and also MATH 200 prior to enrolling at UCSC. An AP Calculus AB score of 4 or 5, or an AP Calculus BC score of 3, 4, or 5 can be substituted for Math 241 or Math 251. For intended human biology majors, although not required for selection, junior-level transfer students are strongly encouraged to also complete the Spanish language requirement prior to enrolling at UCSC.
3 FOR THE MAJOR IN BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY 1. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in BIOL 215 and BIOL 230 (An AP Biology Score of 5 can be substituted for BIO 215 and BIOL 230); 2. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following courses: CHEM 210 and CHEM Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following course: MATH 241 or MATH 251 (An AP Calculus AB score of 4 or 5, or an AP Calculus BC score of 3, 4 or 5 can be substituted for MATH 241 or MATH 251). 4. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in CHEM 234 (Skyline advising note: CHEM 234/237 should be taken concurrently at Skyline College) 5. Minimum grade point average of 2.5 in the above major-preparatory courses. CHEMISTRY Note: By the end of summer 2015, a student must have completed at least BIOL 215 and BIOL 230 and CHEM 210 with at least a 2.8 between those three courses. If a student is using an AP score to meet the biology courses, a minimum grade of B (3.0) is required for a TAG. All other course requirements must be listed as either in-progress or planned on the TAG application, showing completion no later than the end of the spring 2016 term. 1. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following courses: CHEM 210 and CHEM Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following courses: Math 252 and Math Minimum grade of C (2.0) in one of the following math sequences: Math 241 and Math 242* or Math 251, 252 and Math 253 (An AP Calculus AB score of 4 or 5, or an AP Calculus BC score of 3, 4 or 5 can be substituted for MATH 241 or MATH 251). 4. Minimum grade point average of 2.5 in the above major- preparatory courses. By the end of summer 2015, a student must have completed at least CHEM 210 and Math 241 and Math 242 or Math 251,252, 253 with at least a 2.8 between CHEM 210 and one of the math series listed. If a student is using an AP score to meet the math courses, a minimum grade of B (3.0) is required for CHEM 210. All other course requirements must be listed as either in-progress or planned on the TAG application, showing completion no later than the end of the spring 2016 term.*although MATH 241 and 242 appear to be an option to fulfill the math requirements, the MATH 251, 252, 253 sequence is the ONLY way a student will meet ALL UCSC TAG requirements. While not required for selection, junior-level transfer students are strongly encouraged to have completed the introductory physics series and the organic chemistry series prior to enrolling at UCSC. ALL ECONOMICS MAJORS (BUSINESS MANAGEMENT ECONOMICS, ECONOMICS, GLOBAL ECONOMICS, and ECONOMICS/MATHEMATICS COMBINED MAJOR) 1. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following courses: ECON 100 and ECON 102 (An AP Macroeconomics score of 4 or 5 can substitute for Econ 100 and an AP Microeconomics score of 4 or 5 can substitute for Econ 102). 2. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in one of the following courses: MATH 241 or MATH 251 (An AP Calculus AB score of 4 or 5, or an AP Calculus BC Score of 3,4 or 5 can be substituted for Math 241 or Math 251.) 3. Minimum grade point average of 2.8 in the above three courses. By the end of summer 2015, a student must have completed at least Econ 100 or Econ 102 with a minimum grade of B (3.0), or the qualifying AP score equivalent. All other course requirements must be listed as either in-progress or planned on the TAG application, showing completion no later than the end of the spring 2016 term. While not required for selection, junior-level transfer students are strongly encouraged to have completed lowerdivision mathematics and statistics courses required for their intended economics major prior to enrolling at UCSC.
4 ALL PHYSICS MAJORS (APPLIED PHYSICS, PHYSICS, PHYSICS (ASTROPHYSICS) AND PHYSICS EDUCATION 1. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following courses: PHYS 250, 260 and 270 (An AP Physics C Mechanics score of 5 can be substituted for PHYS 250. An AP Physics C, Electricity and Magnetism score of 5 can be substituted for PHYS 260.) 2. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following courses: Math 251, 252 and 253 (An AP Calculus AB score of 4 or 5, or an AP Calculus BC score of 3, 4 or 5 can be substituted for MATH 251). 3. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following courses: MATH Minimum grade point average of 2.7 in PHYS 250, 260 and 270. By the end of summer 2015, a student must have completed at least PHYS 250 and MATH 251, 252, and 253 with a minimum 3.0 GPA in those completed courses. If a student is using an AP score to meet PHYS 250 and/or MATH 251, , the minimum 3.0 GPA will only be required of the courses actually completed. All other course requirements must be listed as either in-progress or planned on the TAG application, showing completion no later than the end of the spring 2016 term. While not required for selection, junior-level transfer students are strongly encouraged to complete as many of the following as possible before enrolling at UCSC: a) course equivalent offered to UCSC s Physics 5D (not offered at Skyline); b) a course equivalent to UCSC s Math 23B (not offered at Skyline); c) MATH 270 and MATH 275 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in each; d) fulfill IGETC or partial IGETC. Not having at least items listed under a and d completed will make it difficult for a student to graduate in two years. Please note: no chemistry courses are recommended. PSYCHOLOGY 1. Minimum grade of B- (2.7) in the following course: PSYC 100* (An AP score of 4 or 5 can substitute for PSYC 100) Note: If a grade of C (2.0) or C+ (2.3) was earned in PSYC 100, a student must earn a minimum grade of B- (2.7) in PSYC 200 or Minimum grade of B- (2.7) in the following course: MATH 200 OR PSYC 171 (An AP Statistics score of 4 or 5 can substitute for MATH 200 or PSYC 171) 3. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following course: MATH 222 (An AP Calculus AB or BC score of 3, 4, 5 can substitute for MATH 222). Please note that an acceptable course in calculus may be used as a substitution of this course requirement. Business calculus is also acceptable. Note: By the end of summer 2015, a student must have completed at least PSYC 100 with a minimum grade of B (3.0), or the qualifying AP score equivalent. All other course requirements must be listed as either in-progress or planned on the TAG application, showing completion no later than the end of the spring 2016 term. *Although a grade of B- (2.7) appears to be the minimum grade to meet the TAG requirement, a minimum grade of B (3.0) is the ONLY way a student will meet the UCSC TAG requirements for Psychology. SOCIOLOGY 1. Minimum grade of C (2.0) in the following courses: SOC 100 and SOC Minimum grade point average of 2.3 in the above major-preparatory courses. By the end of summer 2015, a student must have completed SOC 100 with a minimum GPA of C+ (2.5). Although it is not required for selection, junior-level transfer students are strongly encouraged to complete a transferable course in statistical methods and a transferable course in research methods prior to enrolling at UCSC.
5 JACK BASKIN SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING MAJORS BIOENGINEERING, B.S. 1. A minimum of five (5) of the foundation courses from the list below must be completed with letter grades at the time the TAG agreement is written. A minimum of 3.0 GPA is required in those five courses. 2. TAG applicants for Bioengineering must complete a minimum of nine (9) of the following courses with a minimum 3.0 GPA by Spring Foundation courses must be completed with a minimum 3.0 GPA. 4. All foundation courses completed will be counted toward the GPA: MATH 251 MATH 252 & MATH 253 MATH 270 MATH 275 BIOL 215 & 230 BIOL 215 CHEM 210 CHEM 220 CHEM 235 & 238 COMP 250 or 284 COMP 252 or 286 PHYS 250 CHEM 234 & 237 PHYS 260 BIOINFORMATICS, BS. A minimum of three (3) foundation courses from the list below with a minimum 3.0 GPA must be completed at the time the TAG agreement is written. TAG applicants for Bioinformatics must complete all major foundation courses listed below with a 3.0 GPA by the end of Spring 2016 term. All foundation courses will be counted toward the GPA.
