3 Provide academic support to struggling Chicano/Latino/Hispanic students by creating a peer tutoring program during lunch or after school. Struggling students have support from their peers. Also gives LUCE members opportunity for tutoring (community service).

5 Semana Latina Week long celebration of Latino, Chicano, Hispanic heritage. Music, Dance, guest speaker, etc. Instill pride in culture and expose faculty/students to Latino culture. DJ playing Spanish/English music; Instituto Mazatlan Bellas Artes; Vanden Jazz band playing Latin music; Dr. Enrique Lavernia Dean of Engineering at UCD; SFSU field trip.

8 Why did you join LUCE? J.M. To learn more about education and be a better student A.R. I want to learn more about college and visit colleges S.B. I joined LUCE to form a connections with the Latino students at our school M.L. I joined LUCE because I wanted to be more involved with the school L.V. this gave me an opportunity to hold an officers position H.R. My friends are Mexican. They helped start the club so I joined

9 How has LUCE affected you? H.R. It showed me what college is like & what type of college I want to go to. Also, it made me work harder so I can go to the college I want L.V. able to visit colleges when otherwise I couldn t. Visiting UC Davis, I realized that it s where I really want to go C.R. LUCE is my inspiration to go to college. It is the only thing that is making me want to do good in school A.M. It has helped my leadership skills and interpersonal skills
