Students who are ready or conditionally ready for college-level math courses For this indicator, the performance of California counties ranges from a low of 28% to a high of 77% and averages 58% across the state. Individual county performances on the above indicator are grouped into six categories, based on population density (i.e., Rural or Urban ) and percentage of children living above poverty (i.e., High Income, Middle Income or Low Income ). Through these groupings, the Scorecard encourages users to look beyond the data from their own county, to the data of counties with similar physical and economic environments, as a way to discover new, effective strategies being used by other communities with comparable constraints and resources. DEFINITIONS Indicator: The 28 indicators included in this tool provide a comprehensive view of children s environment and well-being. County Comparison: Designations reflect the county s performance relative to all 58 counties on a given indicator. Low performing counties rank between 58 and 40; middle performing counties rank between 39 and 20; and top performing counties rank between 19 and one. Because county comparison groups are based on rankings, the number of counties in each group varies by indicator. Trend: Up ( +5%), Down ( -5%) and Neutral (+4% to -4%) trend designations were assigned to further qualify the county s performance. Trends vary across indicators; please see Notes and Sources to see the years covered by the trend data. Data by Race/Ethnicity: Data for each indicator is broken down into these race/ethnic subgroups: Latino, White, American, Asian and Other.
