1 January 14, 2009 California State University (CSU) Statewide Pattern The Lower-Division Transfer Pattern (LDTP) consists of the CSU statewide pattern of coursework outlined below, plus campus-specific coursework, bringing the total pattern to at least 60 but no more than 70 transferable semester units for students to complete at a California Community College (CCC). The CSU statewide pattern of coursework for CCC students who plan to major in at any CSU campus offering the major includes: Completion of lower-division general education requirements, following either the CSU General Education Breadth or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern; Completion of the CSU graduation requirements in United States History, Constitution and American Ideals; and Completion of six additional semester units as specified below in (3) and (4). Please note that the information here is an academic and curricular advising tool: a roadmap that enables transfer students to efficiently and effectively progress towards the CSU baccalaureate degree in a specified discipline. California Community College students should work closely with their advisers when planning their academic program in preparation for transfer to the CSU. The information does not represent any guarantee with regard to admission nor does it include or replace CSU campus admission impaction criteria (see These curricular guidelines are subject to change. CSU Statewide Pattern (1) Complete lower-division general education requirements. Obtain a certification of completion of CSU GE Breadth or IGETC by the California Community College before transferring to a CSU campus. While completing general education, follow the pattern stated below. A minimum grade of C is required in courses used to meet CSU GE Breadth AREAS A and B4. A minimum grade of C is required in each course used for IGETC. (2) Complete the graduation requirements in United States History, Constitution, and American Ideals. 39 units for CSU GE Breadth or 37 units for IGETC 0-6 units These are typically completed with one course each in American government and American history, or a sequence of courses that integrate the history and government topics. (3) Complete Introduction to [CAN AJ 2]. (4) Complete Concepts of Criminal Law [CAN AJ 4]. Total s Required for Statewide LDTP Pattern units
2 CSU Bakersfield In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the CSU Bakersfield campus-specific pattern in Criminal Justice: A course that articulates with [CSUB CRJU 100], Introduction to Criminal Justice - The study of the criminal justice system and how the system deals with the American crime problem. A course that articulates with [CSUB CRJU 290], Success in - An Introduction to the major and related professions. (2) If not taken as part of the statewide pattern complete at least one of the following: A course that articulates with [CSUB CRJU 200], Statistical Methods in Criminal Justice - This course focuses on the use of statistics in operations, research, and policymaking. Or A course that articulates with [CSUB MATH 140], Elementary Statistics - Descriptions of sample data; exploratory data analysis; elementary probability; binomial, normal, t-, F- and other distributions; estimation and hypothesis testing techniques; non-parametric methods; linear regression and correlation; analysis of variance and chi-square tests. Or A course that articulates with [CSUB PSYC 200], Introduction to Statistical Methods in Psychological Research - The use of basic statistical methods in designing and analyzing psychological experiments. (3) If not taken as part of the statewide pattern complete at least one of the following: A course that articulates with [CSUB PSYC 100], Explorations in Psychology - While exploring the person as a conscious, behaving, social organism, students examine the theories, evidence, and scientific methods of psychology and the implications of the science of psychology for understanding the individual within society. Or A course that articulates with [CSUB SOC 100], Introduction to Sociology - An examination of the concepts and methodology used by sociologists in the study of social relationships, social institutions, and social processes. A course that articulates with [CSUEB CRJA 2200], Basic Criminal Investigation. A course that articulates with [CSUEB CRJA 2600], Police Community Relations. A course that articulates with [CSUEB PSYC 1000], Introduction to Psychology. A course that articulates with [CSUEB SOC 1000], Introduction to Sociology. A course that articulates with [CSULA CRIM 201], Correctional Systems - A course that covers the objectives of correctional administration; laws, records, public relations, personnel, and relationships to programs, including custodial and noncustodial interrelationships and divisions; physical plant and security, employment, and care and treatment program. A course that articulates with [CSULA CRIM 202], Police Organization and Administration - A course that studies the effect of organizational structure and administrative procedure of the implementation of police function; assessment of processes of recruitment, career advancement and leadership; administrative problems of staffing, supervision, and morale. Considers a variety of public policy issues such as environmental quality, health, education, relation between government and business, taxation, and foreign affairs as reflected in the dynamics of national and state politics. A course that articulates with [SDSU SOC 101], Introductory Sociology: The Study of Society - This course is prerequisite to all upper division courses in sociology. Major ideas, concepts, and methods in the study of society to include socialization, culture, social structure, social stratification, deviance, social control, and social change. A course that articulates with [SDSU SOC 150], Introduction to Social Problems - Contemporary social problems. Topics may include poverty, inequality, unemployment, crime and deviance, population and ecological problems, health, family issues, and the role of ideology and interest groups in the definition of social problems. (2) If not taken as part of the statewide pattern, complete one of the following: A course that articulates with [SDSU SOC 201], Elementary Social Statistics - Basic statistical techniques in sociology. Tables and graphs, measures of central tendency and variability, correlations, cross-classification, and introduction to multivariate analysis, sampling and statistical inference. Computer applications may be included. Or A course that articulates with [SDSU STAT 250], Statistical Principles and Practices. Or A course that articulates with [SDSU POL S 201], Elementary Statistics for Political Science. Or A course that articulates with [SDSU ECON 201], Statistical Methods. Or A course that articulates with [SDSU STAT 119], Elementary Statistics for Business. (3) If necessary, complete additional coursework to bring total to 60 (but not more than 70) transferable semester units. Coursework not taken at the community college must be completed at SDSU. San Francisco State University In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the San Francisco State University campus-specific pattern: A course that articulates with [SFSU ENG 114], College Composition, 1st semester - Training in expository-argumentative composition, emphasizing work on
8 clear and effective sentences and the organization and development of paragraph and essay. A course that articulates with [SFSU ENG 214], College Composition and Literature, 2nd semester - Expository-argumentative composition and critical reading skills through the study of literature; special attention to logic, style, and rhetoric. A minimum grade of C is necessary in courses used to meet this requirement. Recommended Coursework: Courses that articulates with any introductory courses in History, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology. San José State University In addition to the statewide pattern, the following is the San José State University campus-specific pattern for the B.S. in Justice Studies: (1) If not taken as part of the statewide pattern, complete courses from the following to bring total up to 60, and not more than 70 transferable semester units: A course that articulates with [SJSU ENGL 001B], Composition 2, or an equivalent 2 nd Semester English Composition course approved for IGETC Area 1B. A minimum grade of C or higher is required in courses used to meet this requirement. Physical Activity. Two units taken in at least two different activities. (2) If not taken as part of the statewide pattern complete one of the following: A course that articulates with [SJSU HS 067], Introductory Health Statistics. Or 0-2 units A course that articulates with [SJSU STAT 095], Elementary Statistics. (3) If needed, complete additional coursework to bring total to 60 transferable semester units.
