The web site is: There are two ways to enter photos The Juried Contest (Anyone can enter) This is for digital entries only (See pages 2, 3, 4 & 5 for details) This will be judged by a Jury The People s Choice (Only club members can enter) Prints only (See page 6 for details) Winner elected by a vote by attendees to the Men s & Womens Garden Club of Minneapolis Flower Food & Foto (FFF) Show. The contest is to encourage good horticultural photography. Winning photos will be exhibited on August 15 & 16, 2015 FFF show You can have fun and learn more about taking photos by entering the contest and seeing the results. Good Luck

2 Page 2 Rules for the Juried Contest 1. Anyone is eligible to enter. 2. Deadline for entries is July 31, A maximum of twenty (20) entries can be submitted. They can be in various classes but only three in any one class. Keep in mind that points are given for the first three winners in each class. Images shall be submitted in digital format. Each entry shall have a title & the Class it is entered in. 4. All entries must be accompanied with a list of the entries submitted. This list should show the class and a description of the subject. Identify the plants by species and the variety whenever possible. The list must also include your name and address. A typical entry form is on page 5. The purpose of the list is to get the photos in the correct class and to know who entered them. This list can be part of the emil or CD entering the photos. 5. Observe the following: a. Photos submitted may be from any year but must be taken by the submitter. b. Photos with no horticultural content or photos with the main subject not horticultural will be disqualified. c. Photos previously winning MWGCM awards cannot be entered. 6. Photos shall be entered in digital format. Digital files may originate from any camera, but must be submitted via , via a flash drive or mailed on a CD-ROM disk. If your total file size is in the MB range it is best to send it via a CD-ROM or a flash drive. At the end of the contest judging the CD s will be returned. Copies may be made for club use. We recommend that the photos should be a file of at least 400 KB and in Jpeg format. Title each Image and indicate the Class. 7. Send all entries to Lloyd Wittstock at th Ave Southeast, Minneapolis, MN or entries in jpeg format to lwmps@visi.com When ing please start the subject line with FOTOS for easy identification. 8. The Photographs will be submitted in the classes as shown on page 3. We reserve the right to further break down the classes if there are too many entrants in a class or move entries if they were submitted in the wrong class. Examples of images allowed in each class. 3 Page 3 Class Annuals, Biennials and Perennials grown in Minnesota area as annuals. Class Perennials that are hardy in Minnesota includes day lilies & wildflowers Class Roses Class Bulbous Flowers. These are lilies, tulips, minor bulbs, dahlias cannas etc. Class Container Grown Plants (show the container or part of the container) Class Trees, Shrubs, & Woody Vines Class Vegetables, Fruits, Herbs (any edible plant but not an edible flower) Class Men s & Women s Garden Club of Minneapolis Activities (Stress people and the event. No individual flowers) Class Scenes of MGWCM gardens - use the member s name in the title. Class Groups of cultivated plants in flower beds or pools. Class Natural Landscapes Class Misc. Category--- Trick shots, Digitally manipulated, Staged items, Magnified flowers or leafs that show only a part of the image, Any horticultural image that includes butterflies, insects, fish, birds or animals, Plus anything not fitting into the other classes. 4 Page 4 Juried Contest Awards & Information AWARDS Special ribbons awarded for the best of show, reserve champions. and a certificate will be awarded showing your participation and the results of the judging. A traveling trophy will be awarded to a member of the club based on total points amassed. If there is a tie all names will be on the trophy and the trophy will be shared and a passing of the trophy will be at an appropriate meeting of the club Points are awarded as follows: 4 points for any first 2 points for any second 1 point for any third 4 points for Best of Show 2 points for Reserve Champion JUDGING The photo committee chair will select the jury. Anyone willing to be a judge, contact the committee chair. The jury will not know the photographer of any photo being judged. Anyone who wants to witness the judging is welcome.judging will be done in the first part of August. FOR FILM USERS The following is a bit of information to be used as you desire to change prints to a digital CD. If you are one that takes photos with a film camera you too can go Digital. When you have your film processed ask for CD as well as your prints. The film processing employees will usually guide you during the process. If you have the ability to scan prints to your computer this can be another option. Call or us if help is required.

6 Page 6 The People s Choice- Win a gift certificate Any Men s Women s Garden Club of Minneapolis member can enter one or two prints to be judged by a vote of anyone attending the FFF show. We will have ballots and a ballot box for the show viewers to pick the people s choice. $25, $15, & $10 dollar gift certificates will be rewarded to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd at the September dinner meeting. Any print 5x7 or smaller will be accepted. People or Non- horticultural items can be in the print but cannot be a major subject of the photo. Example a baby holding a flower does not meet the requirement. The photo committee will be the sole judge of acceptability. Print your name on the back of the picture for identification purposes. You can submit the same photo as one entered in the juried contest but a print is required for the People s Choice.
