Gold medal and Best of Division: Ad Campaign: Lindell Serrin. Gold medal: Packaging: Wendy Rutter. Gold medal: Direct Marketing: Lindell Serrin. Silver medal: Campaigns (Mixed Media): Natalie Torkar. Silver medal: Logo: Chandra Graham. Silver medal: Poster: Whitney Weisgerber. Silver medal: Direct Marketing: Dan McElfish. Silver medal: Illustration: Mary Patterson. Silver medals: Packaging: Joel Ubaldo, Alyson Keeley, Charles Payne, Lynnette Hughes. Silver medal: Stationery Package: Joel Barbour. The new Student ADDY Awards have an abbreviated set of categories that cover all major aspects of the advertising and design industry. This structure provides a competitive framework and allows students to showcase their talent. The work is held to the high creative standards established by the existing ADDY Awards. The new national program parallels the existing three-tiered professional ADDY Awards competition and offers a $1,000 cash prize for the National Student Best of Show winning entrant. A ll Silver and Gold winners are forwarded to the District competition comprised of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. They are judged against specific criteria defined for our region. All Gold District winners are then forwarded to the National ADDY competition. The Spokane Advertising Federation, a member association of the American Advertising Federation, comprised of advertising and media professionals, sponsors this local ADDY Awards Competition. Proceeds from the Spokane Advertising Federation ADDY Awards help support the club s educational programs, public service projects and proactive government relations efforts. 1 SFCC STUDENTS TAKE 1ST & 2ND IN POSTER COMPETITION March 2007, The Recycling Foundation held its 3rd Annual Poster Competition Exhibition to In unveil this year s winning recycling posters. The theme was Increasing Electronics Recycling. Sponsored by the Recycling Foundation of Washington the 2007 Recycling Poster Competition was open to registered university and college art/design students. Fifteen hundred copies of the 1st and 2nd place posters were printed and are ready for distribution around Washington State. AWARDS First Place Times Have Changed Whitney M. Weisgerber Spokane Falls Community College Second Place Making it a part of you. Recycle electronics. Alyson M. Keeley Spokane Falls Community College Third Place (Tie) Give Plasma Kate M. Joyce James Madison University, Virginia REALITY CHECK 07 April, the SFCC Graphic Design Club took off for Seattle to attend the In American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) annual Reality Check event. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Reality Check is an event designed to provide students and newcomers to the field an opportunity to receive constructive portfolio feedback from experienced design professionals. Reality Check is the time to show your work and ideas to some of the best art directors and designers in the Northwest. Hands down, this is the opportunity to show your work and ideas (completed or in-progress) to some of the best art directors and designers. Students are encouraged to bring 7-10 pieces and let reviewers check your understanding of the basic principles and ideas behind creating a powerful design portfolio. Students from all over Washington State met with Seattle designers for some one-on-one feedback on portfolio pieces. Sometimes positive, sometimes brutal, the feedback was eagerly received by students who walked away from the event with a more clear idea of what it takes to make professional design. Along with the portfolio review SFCC students toured DDB Seattle, Hornall Anderson Design, Mercury Cloud and the EMP (Experience Music Project). SPOKANE AD FEDERATION RECOGNIZES STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT Spokane Advertising Federation hosts A Red Shoe Event Holiday Party The and Art Auction every December to raise money for the Toni M. Robideaux Scholarship Fund, which honors her contributions to the Spokane advertising, art and design communities. photo : photographer s name 2 Plug Tree Jessica D. Rogg Seattle Central Community College People s Choice Award: Natalie Torkar Spokane Falls Community College The main goal of the poster contest was to stimulate an increase in electronic recycling. While the poster needed to have universal appeal, posters were to be targeted to businesses, K-12 grade schools or institutions of higher educations (colleges and universities). The Toni M. Robideaux Scholarship Fund recognizes and rewards student achievement and excellence in advertising arts. All funds generated go directly to students currently enrolled in visual and performing arts, advertising, graphic design, photography, music or marketing communication programs at accredited local / regional colleges and universities. This year s event was held November 7, 2006 at The Spokane Club. Each year local designers are asked to create works of art from unfinished furniture. The SFCC Graphic Design Club Officers: Dan McElfish, Tansy Mitchell, Joel Ubaldo, Art Mercz and Ronda Hutchings created this year s chair to be auctioned off. It sold for $325. This years scholarship recipients are: Jeremy Bolton, graphic design major, Spokane Falls Community College Dan McElfish, web design major, Spokane Falls Community College Lindell Serrin, graphic design major, Spokane Falls Community College Whitney Weisgerber, graphic design major, Spokane Falls Community College 3 photo : photographer s name
