3 DO I QUALIFY? Who May Enter Adult divisions are open to California residents, ages 19 and older. Young Adult divisions are open to youth ages 13 to 18 who reside or attend school in Orange County, CA. HOW TO ENTER... Really Important Date Online Entry Deadline: Wednesday, June 1, 2016 Enter Online Review the Photography Category Guidelines and OC Fair Guidelines. Last year s accounts are no longer valid. All entrants must create a new account. Finished work only; work in progress will not be accepted. Enter and upload photo(s) of your entry online at ocfair.fairmanager.com. After submitting your entry and paying the processing fee online you will be prompted to click on UPLOAD MEDIA. For each entry, image should be a JPG/JPEG, 5MB or less. For additional assistance see the Need Help section on the following page or click on the link ocfair.com/competitions/docs/2016/16_imagepreparation.pdf Refunds will not be issued for failure to upload entries. Exhibitor Name Entries must be made under the name of the individual who prepared it. Do not use business or fictitious names. There are no team entries. Please enter using the exhibitors name as it will appear on the display tag. This also applies to all youth entries. Entry Confirmation You will receive an notification and confirmation immediately after your online payment is received. If you do not see a confirmation in your shortly after submitting your payment, please check your Spam/Junk folder before contacting the OC Fair. Processing Fees Processing fees are payable online with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Amex). No refunds will be issued. Adult Divisions - $10 per entry. Youth Divisions - $3 per entry. Entry Limit Adults: 20 Young Adults: 3 The total number of accepted entries is limited to space available. Refunds will not be issued for entries received beyond the limit. TICKETS, YEA! Free OC Fair Admission Exhibitors will receive one (1) 2016 OC Fair admission ticket, at time of entry delivery. One (1) ticket per exhibitor, not one per entry. Tickets are valid any day the Fair is open. 3 If none of your entries were accepted for exhibition, one (1) free admission ticket will be available for pickup at the Guest Relations Booth located outside the Main (Blue) Gate entrance when the fair is open. Please bring a photo ID. to claim your ticket.

Photographs will be judged for their beauty, composition, meaningfulness and technical skill. 2. Please read the Competition Guidelines. Changes are made each year. Review the Fine Art Rules/ Guidelines below and the OC Fair Guidelines at the end of this Guide. Non-compliance will disqualify your entry. 3. Exhibitors are solely responsible for reading the competition guidelines and rules, and entering their items in the correct Divisions/Classes. Incorrect entries may result in disqualification and may not be exhibited. If you need assistance determining the Division and/or Class, please contact the Visual Arts Office at (714) or visualarts@ocfair.com. Someone should contact you within 48 hours. Personal assistance is also available during Help Days, see Need Help on this page for dates and times. 4. Entries must be made personally by the exhibitor within the past two years 5. Original work only: kits, copies, classroom assignments or group work will NOT be accepted. 6. Photos/images that are accepted for exhibition cannot differ from the uploaded image or it becomes ineligible. 7. Artwork exhibited at any prior OC Fair is not eligible for entry and will be disqualified. 8. No changes of any kind are allowed after the online entry deadline. 9. Incorrect entries will not be accepted. 10. Final acceptance of the entry will be left to the discretion of the Program Coordinator. 11. No refunds will be issued for entries not accepted in First Round or Confirmation Judging. 12. No refunds will be issued for items incorrectly entered by the exhibitor or for juried-out entries. 13. Due to the family-oriented theme of the OC Fair, no exhibit dealing with drug use, obscenity, defamatory statements, violence or gang activity, satanic or cult themes or other offensive or objectionable content will be accepted. This is at the discretion of the OC Fair staff. 14. All state and local rules apply.

5 HOW IS MY ENTRY JUDGED? First Round Judging Friday, June 10, 2016, 6 pm - First Round judging notification of entry acceptance/non-acceptance for delivery. Fine Art Photography is a juried exhibition. Not all entries are accepted. Photography entries will be judged first from uploaded images viewed online to determine if the submitted photo entry meets the basic requirements to participate in this competition and the subjective standards for exhibition set by the judges. All entries will be juried into the show by recognized authorities in the art world. The judges decisions are final and cannot be protested. You will be notified by no later than 6 pm on Friday, June 12 with the results of the first round judging. Please check your Spam/Junk folders. Results may also be viewed at ocfair.com/results. Artists whose entries are judged to meet the show standards will deliver their work on entry delivery day on Saturday, June 25, 8 am-7 pm. Acceptance for Exhibition Adult Entries: First Round Judging Acceptance does not guarantee acceptance for exhibition. Delivered Fine Art Photography entries may still be judged out for not complying with the competition rules and guidelines concerning size, weight, framing, or image quality (pixilation, out of focus, over-processed, etc.) Due to the high number of entries, we cannot provide comments for your submissions. Young Adult Entries: Not all entries will be accepted. Due to the high number of entries and limited display space, we cannot accept all the work submitted. Please understand that this competition is highly competitive. Only entries receiving Blue and Red Awards (see Judging & Awards) will be accepted for exhibition. Entries receiving White Awards will not be exhibited. Judges comments will be included in the first round judging notification . Confirmation Judging After delivery of accepted First Round Judging entries, all entries will then be judged for compliance with framing and other rules, size/weight limits, and quality of the entry. Judges may, at their discretion, jury out works that do not meet their subjective artistic standards. If your delivered entry is judged out, you will receive notification by phone or to pick up your entry at the Visual Arts Gallery. Claim check or photo ID is required for pickup. Artwork not picked up will be stored and cannot be released until August 16. 5

6 HOW IS MY ENTRY JUDGED? continued... Award Judging The judges will select award winners from accepted entries that were confirmed after delivery. Adult Divisions: Placed using the American Judging System where exhibits are ranked one against another. 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd Place and Honorable Mention may be awarded in each class if judges so determine. 1 st Place winners will compete for Division Winner. Division Winners will compete for Best of Show. Young Adult Divisions: Placed using the Danish Judging System where each entry is judged on how well it meets a standard rather than how it compares to other entries. Entries are judged Blue (superior), Red (very good) or White (average) Award. There may be more than one Blue, Red or White Award per class. Only entries receiving Blue and Red Awards will be accepted for exhibition. All Blue Awards will then compete, using the American Judging System, for cash awards. Division Winners will compete for Best of Show. Judging Results Can be viewed online at ocfair.com/results around the third week of Fair or in-person at the OC Fair Visual Arts Gallery during public hours of the OC Fair. Young Adult Evaluation Forms Young Adult Evaluation Forms will be ed along with First Round Judging notification on June 10. Reassignment of Entry Division/Class Judges and/or the Program Coordinator have the option of reassigning an entry to a more appropriate division or class. However, it is the responsibility of the exhibitor to enter their work in the appropriate class. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Classes or divisions may be combined to create an adequate judging pool. Disqualified Entries If an entry is disqualified after judging is complete, the judge will not change the status of awards given for other entries. Judges Fine Art Photography is a juried competition. Qualified judges will be selected by the Event Coordinator to judge all exhibits. The jurors are professionally trained in photography as educators, professional artists, gallery and museum professionals, etc. The decision of the jurors is final. 6

7 WHAT IF MY ENTRY IS ACCEPTED? How to Prepare for the Show... Labeling: Exhibits must be securely labeled on the back of each entry with a printout of the acceptance notification identification label. Framing Required: All photo entries must be framed with picture hanging hardware. No Giclee prints on wrapped canvas are allowed. Framing Choice: Framing choice is one criteria considered by judges in the award judging process. Black frames with white mats are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Due to space limitations, size limits are strictly enforced. Rectangular Images: Minimum Size: 11 inches x 14 inches Maximum size: 24 inches x 28 inches Square Images: Minimum Size: 9 inches x 9 inches Maximum Size: 24 inches x 24 inches Panorama Images: Maximum Size: 44 inches x 24 inches Weight Limit: 20 pounds for all wall-hung artwork Hardware for Hanging: All hanging works must have a taut HEAVY picture braided steel wire attached securely with D-rings or other permanent hardware for hanging. NO Sawtooth hangers or spring clip frames. See hardware guideline ocfair.com/competitions/docs/2016/16_visual_arts_presentation. pdf Frames containing glass: Framing with plastic or Plexiglas is preferred. Artists framing their entry with glass assume responsibility for damage to their own artwork and the artwork of others should the glass break. OC Fair staff use extreme care in handling artwork but assumes no responsibility for damage. Diptychs and triptychs are not allowed unless framed together in one frame within stated size restrictions, and must be entered in Division 525, Class 03. Any entry not meeting framing requirements will not be accepted. Pricing and Sale of Entries Pricing: Entries may be marked NFS (Not For Sale), POR (Price On Request), or For Sale by indicating the selling price $. When setting a price consider cost of framing, printing, your time and effort. Prospective Buyers: No sale or acceptance of fees for artworks will be made by the OC Fair. Prospective buyers may fill out an Interested in Purchasing Exhibited Art form that will be forwarded to the artist at the close of the OC Fair. Purchase Awards: The OC Fair may purchase artwork from the 2016 Visual Arts Exhibit. These purchases will be displayed in the OC Fair s Permanent Collection. Prices marked on the entries will be considered the sale price for the Purchase Award. 7

Really Important Delivery Date Saturday June 25, 8 am-7 pm Where to Delivery Entries OC Promenade between Home Arts and Visual Arts Galleries. alerts will be sent prior to delivery date with detaile information. Late deliveries will not be accepted. One-accepted-for exhibition ribbon will be given to each exhibitor on entry delivery day. You may arrange for someone else to deliver you entry. Really Important Pickup Date Tuesday August 16, 7 am - 7 pm Claim Check or photo ID is required for pickup. If you are unable to pick up your items, please arrange for someone to pick them up for you. Unclaimed items and ribbons become the property of the OC Fair and will be discarded. 9 WHAT IF I GET AN AWARD? Judging Results Entries will be displayed in the Photography Gallery with any awards received. Participants can view the results online around the third week of the OC Fair at ocfair.com/results. Please do not call or for competition results. If your entry receives a First Place award in adult division or a Best of Class in Young Adult division, you will be invited to attend the Awards Ceremony. Award Ceremony & Judges Walkthrough Night Thursday, July 21 Awards at 7 pm, meet at the Promenade Stage (Walkthrough to follow) Only First Place in Adult divisions and Best of Class in Young Adult divisions will be invited to and recognized at the ceremony. Invitations will be sent to the provided at entry registration. All entrants and the general public are welcome to attend the ceremony. RIBBONS, YEA! AWARDS Adult Best of Show - $400 Division Winner - $200 Theme Award - $100 1 st Place - $100 2 nd Place - $75 3 rd Place - $50 Jurors Choice - $25 Honorable Mention - Rosette Youth Best of Show - $75 Division Winner - $35 Best of Class - $25 Juror s Choice - $25 Blue, Red or White - Ribbon Exhibitors will receive awarded ribbons on entry pickup day. THE CHECK S IN THE MAIL Award checks will be made payable to the exhibitor whose name is indicated on the entry form and mailed within 30 days after the close of the 2016 OC Fair. 9

10 Fine Art Photography Divisions and Classes The OC Fair Fine Art Photography Competition allows digital enhancement of images to improve photographic quality and impact in most categories. This includes multiple exposures, in-camera and/or through editing on a computer, such as high dynamic range (HDR) and focus stacking. Please be aware that in Divisions , images utilizing these techniques must be photo-realistic and not overly processed or manipulated. Images with heavy compositing and manipulation for artistic purposes should be entered in Division 526 Class 02. Division 525 Class 04 Photojournalism entries can be adjusted for quality but must be a single image not altered to change content. Division 520 Black & White Prints Must be a black and white digital or film print. Sepia-toned prints are acceptable. Multiple exposures to produce a high dynamic range and focus stacking are acceptable. Digital color photos changed by computer program to black and white are acceptable Photos moderately adjusted by computer for tone, brightness, etc., are acceptable. Images utilizing these techniques must be photo-realistic. Class 01: People, Children, Families - Portraits, studio shots, family activities, sports Class 02: Landscape - Vistas, mountains, deserts, forests, National Parks, rural scenes, etc. Class 03: Seascape, Waterscape - Oceans, lakes, waterways, boats, piers, etc. Class 04: Architecture or Urban Scene - Cityscapes, rural architecture, interior settings, etc. Class 05: Plants - Flowers, bouquets, garden shots, crops, leaves, macro, etc. Class 06: Animals, Sea Life, Insects - Macro portraits, action zoo, in nature, domestic, etc. Class 07: Vehicles, Machinery - Airplanes, cars, railroads, industrial scenes, etc. Class 08: Creative - Out-of-focus, close ups and macro (except flowers and animals), still life, studio shots, scientific Division 521 Color Photos: People Must be color digital or film print. Multiple exposures such as high dynamic range and focus stacking are acceptable. Photos moderately adjusted by computer for color, tone, brightness, etc., are acceptable. Images utilizing these techniques must be photo-realistic. Class 01: Flowers - Single blooms, bouquets, studio shots, garden scenes Class 02: Trees, Other Plant Life - Leaves, vegetables, underwater plant life, crops, algae Class 03: Macro - Macro shots of any plant life Must be a color print from a single, original exposure. Must be a color digital or film print. Multiple exposures such a high dynamic range and focus stacking are acceptable. Photos moderately adjusted by computer for color, tone, brightness, etc., are acceptable. Images utilizing these techniques must be photo-realistic. Class 01: Wildlife, Zoo Animals Class 02: Insects, Bats, Reptiles, Other Class 03: Aquatic Animals Class 04: Birds Class 05: Domestic Pets, Farm Animals, Neighborhood Wildlife. Division 525 Color Photos: Things Must be a color print from a single, original exposure. Must be a color digital or film print. Multiple exposures such a high dynamic range and focus stacking are acceptable. Photos moderately adjusted by computer for color, tone, brightness, etc., are acceptable. Images utilizing these techniques must be photo-realistic. Class 01: Vehicles, Machinery - airplanes, cars, railroads, industrial scenes, etc. Class 02: Architecture - Interiors and exteriors, city or rural buildings, etc. Class 03: Creative - Studio shots, out-of-focus, close-ups or macro images (except plants and animals), still life, multiple images framed together, i.e., diptychs, triptychs, etc. 11 Class 04: Photojournalism - Newsworthy events, feature stories, human interest. May be slightly adjusted for quality, but must be a single image not altered to change content.

12 Division 526 Computer Manipulated and Special Effects Class 01: Special Effects Black and white or color images, modified without the use of a computer, using creative image-making, darkroom, or printing processes such as hand-coloring, solarization, multiple exposure, Polaroid transfer, 3-D images, x-ray or medical imaging, scientific, etc. Class 02: Computer-Composited and Manipulated Image Multiple images originating in a camera, composited together and significantly changed using a computer program. Images must contain original photographic elements created by the photographer. Note: This category is for heavily composited images designed using multiple sources or programs. For single image photos that have had moderate adjustments to color, brightness, tone, etc., were changed from digital color to black and white or are shot in High Dynamic Range, please enter Divisions Do you enjoy sharing your talent with others? 13 YOUNG ADULT PHOTOGRAPHY HOW TO PREPARE for the YOUNG ADULT PHOTOGRAPHY Show... Parents/Guardians, Please Note: This is a juried show. Not all entries will be accepted for exhibition. Due to the high number of entries and limited display space, we cannot accept all of the work submitted. Please understand that this competition is highly competitive. Only entries receiving Blue and Red Awards (see Judging & Awards) will be accepted for exhibition. Entries receiving White Awards will not be exhibited. Entry limit: 3. Processing Fee: $3 per entry. 14 5 th Annual Digital Photography Shoot Out A timed, theme-centered contest held live at the OC Fair Bring your digital camera to the OC Fair and compete for prizes Open to amateur photographers 13 years and older Rules Contestants will bring their own digital camera with an empty memory card to the OC Fair on Sunday, July 24. Check in at the Visual Arts Gallery from 10am to Noon and receive the theme of the shoot out and instructions. Participants will then be released to capture the theme on camera. Participants must upload the one (1) image of their choice from their camera s memory card for judging before the 2 pm deadline. Participation will be confirmed by a few weeks before the event. If space is still available, photographers may sign up the day of the contest on a first-come basis starting at 10 am in the Visual Arts Gallery. Walk-up contestants will not receive a complimentary Fair admission ticket. Open to amateur photographers 13 years and older Limit: One (1) photo entry per contestant in JPEG/JPG format. Submission: Contestant must return to the Visual Arts Gallery before 2 pm. Images will be compiled into a slide show. A monitor will be setup in the Visual Arts Gallery area to display all entries for judging. Judging: 3 pm on the Visual Arts Gallery Stage. Winners will be announced after judging. 15 Faces of the Fair Photography Contest Photograph the people and events of the OC Fair. Open to photographers ages 13 and older. No processing fee Deadline for Submitting Entries Friday, August 19, 2016 To Enter 1. Capture images of the people and events during the 2016 OC Fair (July 15-August 14). 2. Review the guidelines below, as well as the OC Fair Guidelines. 3. Entry Limit: 3 entries per person. 4. All entries must be submitted online at OCF.formstack.com/forms/2016_Faces_of_Fair 5. Uploaded photos should be sized at 5 MB or less in JPEG/JPG format. Judge: Rick Valasek. 16 OC FAIR GUIDELINES ONLINE ENTRY Dates to Remember Please check the individual Competition Guides for entry deadlines, as well as dates and times for entry delivery and pickup. Dates and times are absolute. Late entries will not be accepted. Who May Enter Some divisions are open only to Orange County residents and some limit the number of entries and age of entrants. Check individual Competition Guides for who may enter each competition. Youth must enter the divisions and classes specified for their age group. The exhibitor s age as of July 15, 2016, determines their age group. Youth may not enter in the Adult divisions. Open youth who turn age 19 by July 15, 2016, are considered adults. 4-H youth members in good standing may be age 19 as outlined by the 4-H Cooperative Extension Office. 4-H members who are age 19 may choose to enter as either a 4-H Young Adult or Adult - they may not enter both. This rule applies for all OC Fair 4-H Competitions. Enter Online Enter online at ocfair.fairmanager.com. Incorrect or incomplete information on online entry may disqualify the exhibit or cause delay in issuing awards. Online submission of data requires that you understand that the decision of the judge is final. You agree to abide by all rules and regulations contained in the OC Fair Competition Guides and understand that such rules and regulations are incorporated with and become a part of this agreement. You hereby release the OC Fair and the State of California from all liability of every kind and character on account of loss, damages or injury to property, which may occur on the fairgrounds. By submitting artwork I herby Grant the OC Fair & Event Center the right to reproduce accepted artwork for promotional and educational uses in both printed and electronic forms. Processing Fees OC Fair July 15-August 14 Most divisions require processing fees (check individual Competition Guides.) Fees are payable online with a credit card. No refunds will be issued. 16

17 OC FAIR GUIDELINES ENTRIES AND EXHIBITS Acceptable Entries No entries or works with copyright or licensing infringement will be accepted. If there is any reproduction of a registered trademark item or work of another artist, the OC Fair reserves the right to disqualify the entry. The OC Fair is a family-oriented event. Any entry deemed inappropriate for family viewing will be disqualified prior to judging. Articles which are objectionable, stained, soiled, broken, or not ready for hanging will not be accepted for judging and will not be displayed. You will be notified for pickup. OC Fair reserves the right to refuse, accept conditionally or to cancel any entry, disqualify exhibitors, prohibit exhibition of entries or to cancel awards, without claim for damages. OC Fair will not be liable for entries made in error and will not re-open judging to accommodate such entries. Repeat Entries No items entered in a previous year s OC Fair competition will be accepted. Exhibit Sales Sale of an exhibit or any part of an exhibit for delivery during the OC Fair will not be permitted. Entry Limit The Exhibit Supervisor and/or Program Coordinator have the right to limit entries to facilities available. Entry forms will be dated as received and entry forms received first will have priority. All entries will be accepted unless the exhibitor is otherwise notified. Protection of Exhibits All cases will be locked and will not be opened while the public is in the building. Exhibits will not be allowed to leave the OC Fair & Event Center grounds unless the Program Coordinator has approved a release slip. Reasonable precaution will be taken in protection of exhibits. The exhibitor must arrange for insurance if desired. OC Fair will not be responsible for accidents or loss that may occur to any of the exhibitors or exhibits at the show and the exhibitors shall hold the management harmless and indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from such accident or loss. 18 OC FAIR GUIDELINES JUDGING AND AWARDS Judges and Judging Procedures For judging purposes, the OC Fair reserves the right to combine classes or divisions to create an adequate judging pool where numbers are insufficient to ensure adequate competition. Qualified judge(s) will be selected by the Program Coordinator to judge all exhibits. Judges have the authority to disqualify or transfer to the correct class any exhibit that does not meet the requirement of the division or class in which it is entered. Adult Divisions are placed using the American Judging System (ranking exhibits one against another). 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd place and Honorable Mention may be awarded in each class if judges so determine. Young Adults and Junior Divisions are placed using the Danish Judging System where each entry is judged on how well it meets a standard rather than how it compares to other entries. Entries are judged Blue (superior), Red (very good) or White (average) Award. There may be more than one Blue, Red or White Award per class. All Blue Awards will compete, using the American Judging System, for cash awards. The decision of the jurors is final. If an entry is disqualified after judging is completed, the judge will not change the status of awards given for other entries. Judging is NOT open to the public (except Special Contests). Judging results can be viewed online around the third week of the OC Fair at ocfair.com/results. Please do not call or for competition results. Award information will not be given by telephone. Premiums Signed judging sheets will be used as evidence for payment of premiums. Ribbons and tags will not be accepted. Checks for awards will be made payable to the exhibitor whose name is indicated on the entry form and distributed within 30 days after the close of the OC Fair. Ribbons To encourage high standards, the judge shall award 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd Place in each class according to merit; if without merit, the judge shall make no award under any circumstances. Ribbons and special awards must be picked-up by exhibitors at the close of the OC Fair unless otherwise noted. OC Fair July 15-August 14 Claiming Awards and Exhibits Exhibits and/or awards left after the official release date are not the responsibility of the OC Fair and will be discarded without exception. If you are unable to pick up your items, please arrange for someone to pick them up for you. Claim check or photo ID is required for pickup. No additional phone calls or notifications will be made.
