Welcome to a New School Year Mark Your Calendar for September 20 Party in the Park D102 students and families are invited to join in the fun on Friday, September 20 at 4:30pm at Meridian Middle School as the PTO hosts a family-fun event to kick-off the new school year. Party in the Park After Dark for fifth through eighth graders will immediately follow from 8:00-9:30pm Annual Report Released District 102 teachers and administrators work collaboratively to create and accomplish annual action steps. These action steps help staff achieve the district's five-year goals, which are based on input from the community, staff, and students and are formally approved by the Board of Education. Read the Annual Report. District 102 We are thrilled to welcome everyone to a new school year. Staff have been busy preparing the schools and classrooms to make learning fun and challenging! We especially look forward to meeting students and families at Wednesday's Meet & Greet events. Students will visit classrooms, meet their teachers, and set-up supplies. We are also excited to welcome parents to the Early Childhood, Guided Classroom, and Kindergarten Open Houses where teachers will be sharing their plans for an incredible year ahead. More...New Staff Welcomed for School Year Aran Connolly, School Psychologist, Pritchett Mr. Connolly has a Bachelors in Psychology from Illinois State University and a Masters in School Psychology from Western Illinois University. He has five years experience in school psychology supporting kindergarten through sixth graders. "I am passionate about helping children learn. School is crucial for setting the building blocks for the future. Success, no matter how large, is always exciting. I look forward to working at D102 because of its commitment to excellence and willingness to differentiate for students' specific needs." Last Chance to Attend a PTI Parent Meeting on August 21 Thank you to the fifth through eighth grade parents who attended one of the mandatory Personal Technology Initiative (PTI) meetings. All parents of fifth through eighth graders are required to attend a meeting prior to their child receiving an ipad. If you have not attended, the last PTI parent meeting is Wednesday, August 21 from 6:30-7:30pm at AJHS. Parents will be responsible for contacting the school's principal to receive related ipad information if they are unable to attend a PTI meeting. ipad Distribution Dates for 5th - 8th Graders 8th Grade - Pick up on August 19 or 20 from 9:00-3:00pm in Room 108, AJHS, or before school on August 22. 6th and 7th Grades - Distributed at school on August 26 with an orientation provided by classroom teachers. 5th Grade - Students will use at school immediately. ipads will go home on September 12 (the day after Meridian's Open House). 4 Aptakisic-Tripp School District 102 Mail - News from District 102 The Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee met to help plan this year's events and identify needs for parents and students learning English as a second language. Following this meeting, parents attended a pre-fall English Language Learners (ELL) orientation. Ms. Zuica Donev, Pupil Services Coordinator and Dr. Robert Hudson, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Innovation shared information related to the start of a new school year and clarified school procedures and important dates. Also sharing resources and information with families were Mrs. Dana Litwin, Co-President of the PTO, Ms. Debbie Fandrei, Curator of the Buffalo Grove Park District's Raupp Museum, and Ms. Lisa Coleman, School Liaison for the Vernon Area Public Library. New Staff Orientation August 20 Board President Ellyn Ross welcomed new teachers and shared District 102's rich history and the five-year Learning Vision into Action plan. Mrs. Ross emphasized the importance of D102's vision and quoted Joel Parker, "Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world." Superintendent Dr. Theresa Dunkin shared how excited she is to welcome a group of very talented individuals. She challenged them to remember why they chose to work with children and to connect with D102's powerful vision. We want our children to "leave school having been challenged, feeling successful, and looking forward to tomorrow." 5 On Monday, junior high students flooded the school in preparation for the new school year. Students picked up supplies, organized lockers, and reviewed their class schedule and classroom locations.
