Christiansen, Ed.D., Deputy Superintendent/Chief f Schls Dr. Rbert Avssa, Superintendent FY2015 FEDERAL HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION RATES On, the Flrida Department f Educatin (FDOE) released graduatin rates fr the State f Flrida and the Schl District f Palm Beach Cunty (SDPBC). The Federal High Schl Graduatin Rate 1 includes standard diplmas but excludes special diplmas and GEDs (General Educatin Diplmas). 2 In FY2015, SDPBC utperfrmed Flrida and six ther large urban schl districts 3 and increased the graduatin rate frm FY2014. Summary f Results Frm FY2014 t FY2015, the SDPBC Increased the verall District graduatin rate (includes bth District perated 4 and charter schl students) frm 77.9% t 79.4% Increased graduatin rates fr District perated schl students (84.3% t 85.3%) and charter schl students 5 (36.0% t 40.3%) Increased the graduatin rate fr Black students by 4.3 percentage pints (64.8% t 69.1%), and remained similar fr Hispanic (76.3%) and White students (88.5%) Increased the graduatin rates amng a majrity f District perated high schls 1 In FY2012, the FDOE accuntability system began using the Federal High Schl Graduatin Rate, which is a mre rigrus standard than the Natinal Gvernrs Assciatin (NGA) rate used previusly. 2 Detailed infrmatin abut the Federal High Schl Graduatin Rate is prvided in Appendix A. 3 Flrida schl districts exceeding 100,000 students. 4 Includes students wh als attended Alternative and DJJ schl sites. 5 Bth District perated schl and charter schl students are required t meet the Flrida Standard Diplma requirements. 6 Page 6 f 6 FY2015 High Schl Federal Graduatin Rate Appendix A: Federal Unifrm Graduatin Rate Flrida s Change t Reprting the Federal Graduatin Rate In Octber 2008, the U.S. Department f Educatin (USDOE) issued new directives fr graduatin rates. These new regulatins require each state t calculate a fur-year adjusted chrt rate, which fllws students fr fur years after entering the ninth-grade fr the first time. The USDOE adpted this calculatin methd in an effrt t streamline graduatin rate calculatins and establish unifrm, accurate, and cmparable rates acrss all states. Starting with FY2012, the schl grade accuntability system fr the State f Flrida changed frm using the Natinal Gvernrs Assciatin (NGA) rate t the Federal Graduatin Rate. The Federal rate represents a higher standard than the NGA rate. Differences between the NGA rate and the Federal rate are described belw.
