1 UIANS Board Fall 2013 Jill Ahlers Hello! My name is Jill Ahlers and I am the President for UIANS. I am currently a senior in the BSN program and will graduate December After graduation I hope to work in a NICU as a staff nurse. I plan on going back to school to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. Besides UIANS, I am busy with Collegiate 4- H, Student Interprofessional Education (SIPE) board. I work in the Otolaryngology Clinic at UIHC as a Nursing Assistant. I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, quilting, and baking. Emily Christiansen I am a senior at the University of Iowa College of Nursing and looking forward to graduating in May! I was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona but I have been a Hawkeye fan for a very long time! My father, grandfather, and great- grandparents all attended Iowa, and my great- grandmother even graduated from the College of Nursing in the 1930 s. I m excited to be the President- elect of the University of Iowa Association of Nursing Students, and assume position as president in January. I was a member of the Iowa Swimming & Diving team for 3 years, currently work in the Main OR for Otolaryngology as a nursing intern, and volunteer at various organizations around campus. My area of interest would be neonatal intensive care and I will hopefully go back to school in a few years to become a neonatal nurse practitioner. I am unsure of where I will move after graduation but hopefully it will be warm! I am looking forward to being a member of UIANS and will hopefully make a positive impact on the College of Nursing!
2 Kelsey Reed Hi, My name is Kelsey Reed and I am the UIANS Treasurer. This is my second year on the UIANS executive board. My role is managing and handing all the finances within our organization. I am a senior and will graduate in December 2013! My goal is to return and get my Masters in Nursing Leadership to become a nurse manager and eventually a chief nursing officer (CNO). I am originally from eastern Iowa and plan to return there after graduation. I love pediatrics and hope to work in a pediatric or a neonatal intensive care unit after graduation. In my free time I enjoy listening to music and spending time with friends and family. Ashley Groh My name is Ashley Groh and I am the Treasurer- Elect for University of Iowa Associated Nursing Students (UIANS). As treasurer for the 2014 Spring semester, I am excited to maintain our accounts so that we can fund some fantastic events. I plan on working with the board to make sure that we make the best financial decisions possible for this upcoming year. I am senior in the College of Nursing, and I also plan to receive my B.A. this spring in Global Health Studies. Within the College of Nursing I am a member of the Young Community Nurse Clinician organization in addition to UIANS. This past summer I completed a summer internship in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. In my free time I love to play volleyball, swing dance, and play Magic: the gathering. I plan on eventually returning to school to obtain a Master s degree in Public Health (MPH) as well as a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP). Kim Enstad My name is Kimberly Enstad and I am excited to be the secretary of the UIANS executive board! I am a senior in my final semester of nursing courses and I am greatly looking forward to graduating this December. I was born in Madison Wisconsin and grew up just outside of Madison in a small city called Sun Prairie. I am a middle child between two brothers, Korey and Collin. Upon graduation I hope to work in either Labor and Delivery or Pediatrics at a hospital somewhere between Iowa City and Madison. As Secretary if UIANS I am excited to oversee much of what happens with our various board positions. My position includes attending all committee and sub- committee meetings, maintaining the beautiful bulletin board in the College of Nursing student lounge, and other things such as acting as a supervisor and coordinator of board activities.
3 Ellen Reeder I am a senior in the college of nursing and this is my first year as serving on UIANS as Secretary Elect. One thing I am very excited about this year is being able to post on behalf of the University of Iowa College of Nursing Facebook page to get the word out about nursing events, fundraisers and raise awareness on current nursing issues. Social communication is a rather new role to the secretary position and I am excited to add it onto my current list of duties in order to accomplish many things for the UIANS board. My interests in nursing are extremely invested in critical care and I hope to work in an ICU setting for 1-2 years after graduation and go on to graduate school to receive my DNP for nursing anesthesia. Sara Encke "Hi! My name is Sara Encke. I am from Cedar Rapids originally and I transferred to Iowa to start the nursing program after completing my pre- requisites at Kirkwood (yay for being a super senior). This year I am one of the directors of Progressive Nursing Day. Planning PND in less than six months has been a crazy time and a great experience, and I am really looking forward to hearing the diverse line- up of speakers we have this year! I am also keeping very busy this semester with my senior internship in the CVICU, so if you re interested in cardiac or ICU nursing, I would love to tell you about my experience. Hope to see everyone at PND and all the UIANS events!"
4 Nichole Brauer Hi! My name is Nichole Brauer and I am the Co- Director of Progressive Nursing Day. I am a senior in the nursing program and will graduate in December of I am originally from a South Suburb of Chicago called Mokena. In addition to UIANS, I am involved with the Young Pediatric Nurse Clinician Program and am the undergraduate intern for Sigma Theta Tau International Gamma Chapter. I also work at UIHC as a nursing assistant on a medical- surgical floor and love being immersed in the health care environment. My passion truly lies in pediatric nursing and I see my future career there. My biggest goal as director of PND is to have this event be successful and enjoyable for students, nurses and faculty. We have some amazing speakers this year and I think we are going to have a very good turnout! Andrea Daun My name is Andrea Daun and I am a soon to be graduate of the College of Nursing. After holding the Community Involvement Position on the board last year, I decided to run this year for the Fundraising position. Some of the responsibilities of this position are to sell PA packs and scrubs to incoming nursing students, hold apparel sales, hold pizza sales, and organize fundraisers with the athletic department and local businesses. After graduation this coming December, I hope to stay in the Iowa City area with a nursing position Erin Miller I am a May 2014 graduate in the College of Nursing. I am interested in pursuing pediatric nursing, but am still enjoying learning about all different types of patient populations. I wanted to get more involved in the CoN, so I decided to run for the UIANs board this year. I am one of two members in charge of fundraising. We organize scrub orders for new students, put together weekly pizza sales, and head the CoN apparel sale.
