1 WHAT S SO DIFFERENT ABOUT HALSTROM? THE HALSTROM DIFFERENCE 1 ONE-TO-ONE INSTRUCTION s classrooms consist of only one student and one teacher. At, you will benefit from quality, personalized one-to-one instruction that is tailored to your personal needs, educational goals and learning styles. Whether you attend on campus or online, s proven one-to-one teaching model results in better learning. My daughter likes the one-on-one attention and retains more material taught because the teachers take the time to apply the lessons to real life. Neetu D., Parent 2 FLEIBLE SCHEDULINGUstomized Flexible Scheduling Many students have busy lives outside of school and need flexible scheduling options. offers the unique opportunity for you to choose the class times, course load, and pace that best accommodate your needs inside and outside of school. I chose to help me be more successful in the classroom, and to give me the rest of the time to concentrate on reaching my athletic goals the 2012 Olympic Trials. Kendall B., Alumna 3 4 FOCUS ON CONTENT MASTERY At, there s no hiding in the back of class or getting around learning. requires that each student master the content of each lesson and course before moving on. Students must score 80% or better for college prep classes, and 70% or better for general level classes. Because teaching is tailored to each student, you will receive the support and resources needed to be successful in school. CARING AND SAFE COMMUNITY Peer pressure, bullying, and social anxieties are alleviated by s small, supportive community. At, uniqueness is celebrated, accepted, and nurtured, and you will find an environment where you feel safe and are able to discover the power of your own potential. CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY stays on the forefront of ever-changing technology tools and platforms, and is committed to using cutting-edge software and hardware for instruction and assessment to better teach students and prepare them for college and beyond. Current offerings include e-textbooks and learning apps through the ipad2, online scheduling and grading, and real-time online interaction with teachers. The teachers at make sure you get it, they make sure you don t quit. Dallas H., Student 5 At, I m able to think freely. I have room in my life for creative outlets, and I m more motivated to succeed in school. Katie V., Student

2 WHAT TO EPECT AT HALSTROM QUALITY COLLEGE PREP EDUCATION is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). You can choose from an array of AP courses and more than a hundred courses that are UC/CSU certified and NCAA approved. s courses are accepted by all colleges and universities throughout the United States, and most highschool districts throughout Southern California. The curriculum is challenging and that s one of the attractive things about. My daughter is a self-motivated student; she can go a little farther here because she s not limited by the normal classroom setting. Carina D., Parent THE HALSTROM EPERIENCE PROGRAMS TAILORED TO MEET YOUR NEEDS offers full-time and part-time programs for grades 6-12, and students can enroll at any time of the year. In addition to a wide range of course offerings, offers other resources including tutoring, SAT Prep, and college and career counseling programs. PUTTING ARTS AND LANGUAGES BACK INTO SCHOOL While public schools continue to eliminate arts and language education, integrates creative and worldly interests into its curriculum and offers you a wide range of classes in fine and performing arts and foreign languages. The one-to-one is key. My son always struggled with more advanced math and only became successful when we got him out of the 35 to 40 plus student classroom. Ms. Ernenwein, Parent THE STUDY provides a safe supervised place students can call their own. There are two common-area rooms at each campus. One, The Study, is used for socializing, using the computer, listening to music and watching TV. The second, The Quiet Study, is available for doing homework and getting help from teachers. GROUP ACTIVITIES At, you ll have many opportunities outside the classroom to socialize and participate in group activities. Current activities include Leadership Club and Yearbook Club, as well as a number of field trips and volunteer opportunities scheduled throughout the year. has provided a learning environment that I feel at ease with. Tessa A., Student HALSTROM S ESLRs (Expected Schoolwide Learning Results) The following ESLRs are the traits and skills we strive to develop in our students that will serve them well at and beyond. 1. Self-Directed Learner 2. Creative Problem-Solver 3. Effective Communicator 4. College/Career Ready 5. Community Participant I like the one-on-one relationships I have with teachers because I am able to grasp topics a lot better than I would with a big classroom. Jonti S., Student

5 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS YOU ASK... AND WE ANSWER! ONE TEACHER. ONE STUDENT. NO LIMITS. What type of students attend? students are responsible, self-directed learners who are motivated to succeed, but on their own terms. Types of students include aspiring professional athletes and artists, working professionals, or students who are seeking a learning environment that can be tailored to their learning styles. How can a student succeed by attending only a few days a week? Students have a 45-minute, one-to-one individualized instructional appointment times throughout the semester. These personalized appointments are designed to specially meet the student s needs and learning levels by answering questions and covering the coursework in greater detail. After each appointment, the student is assigned 3 to 5 hours of homework. The homework may be completed on or off campus. If a student so chooses, each campus has a Study where students can finish homework. A teacher is available to provide help with homework if needed. All students must demonstrate a minimum mastery level of 80% per assignment. If not, the teacher will re-teach and reassign the lesson until the student can demonstrate mastery before moving on to the next assignment. Is accredited, UC/CSU Certified and NCAA Approved? The majority of s courses are a-g certified from University of California/California State University, and 90% of s courses are approved by the NCAA. Can students transfer credits to other middle and high schools? Students may transfer credits to another school. Please check with the school for their policies. Part-time students are encouraged to get approval by filling out the Course Verification Form prior to starting instruction at.
