The Mobile App Workshop, Pembroke, has been set up to help small businesses realise the potential of developing a mobile app which can improve and support their business. The event offers advice on preparing for app development to save you time and money and sessions with experts to talk about app development and design. 3 : : Introduction to the Business Support Programme Preparing for App Development (Saving Time and Money) Clayton Jones Commercial & European Manager, Eilian Roderick Research Associate, The Centre of Excellence in Mobile Applications and Services () supports business in the Convergence Area of Wales to reduce the initial risks associated with developing new mobile applications. This presentation will provide a summary of the assistance provided and the eligibility criteria for engaging with the programme. Clayton has been involved in the development and ongoing management of since 2009, and formally joined the team in January He graduated from the University of Glamorgan (now South Wales) in 1999 with an MBA and is a qualified PRINCE 2 and MSP Practitioner. Clayton has over 10 years experience of working in the field of European project management. Have the idea for the next big app but need a little help getting it off the ground? is here to help, but what can you do to make that process even more efficient? This talk will guide you through the very first steps of app development. Learn about story-boards, user story templates wire-framing, prototyping and all the tools us developers have in our arsenal to make a good idea great. Eilian has over 6 years experience in the media industry, with a Masters in Animation & Interactive Technology from Glamorgan University. Eilian works on the User Experience and Graphical elements of mobile apps created by.
4 : Product Management (Not Just for Mobile) : Monetisation of Your App Martin Spicer Programme Manager, Matthew Smith Business Liaison Officer, Product management is very often overlooked by small businesses (SMEs) who just want an app. Martin looks at defining the product and the role that mobile can play in the product roadmap. The talk draws on examples from industry and from SMEs who have benefited from the Business Support Programme. Martin has responsibility for the delivery and development of all projects undertaken by, including the delivery of the 6 million Business Support Programme. Martin has a background in both the private and public sector spanning account, project and programme management. Martin has worked with hundreds of public and private sector clients in improving their business processes with both mobile, web, enterprise and business change related projects. He also facilitates client and business improvement workshops aimed at developing, refining and delivering the business case. Matthew will discuss methods you can utilise to make money from your app, costs to consider before venturing into the app market and tips on how to generate long term revenue. Matthew began working for in January 2014 when he joined the business development team. A lover of all things gadgety Matthew is always looking at the horizon to catch a glimpse of new and future technology. Matthew s role is to promote the project in all areas of Wales and to support and manage eligible businesses through the support programme. A graduate of Cardiff University (BSc Hons Geology) and Merthyr College (PGCE) had led Matthew into a teaching role. Matthew has 12 years experience in the field of post compulsory education and training working with hard to reach young people, managing education centres and European funded projects. In his spare time Matthew is a keen gamer. Name a computer/console/device and the chances are Matthew has owned it. Stretching back to his first machine, the Grandstand, Matthew has a long history in gaming.
5 : General App Development (Making an App) : Getting Started with Game Development Dimitris Zampelis Analyst Developer, Will Warren Analyst Developer, This workshop will give a hands-on experience of what goes into making an app. Participants will develop prototypes based on their ideas and also see an idea developed to a working app. The workshop is designed to give participants a clear picture of steps to get started with app development. Dimitris is an Analyst Developer with and Human-Computer Interaction Researcher with a background in psychology. Dimitris has a Computer Science degree from Lancaster University, as well as an MRes in Human Computer interaction and a PhD in ways of using augmented reality techniques on prototyping and a teaching background in computer and operating systems architecture. He has a strong background in web design and programming with languages like C, Objective C, Java, prolog, lisp, etc. Dimitris has experience working as a PhD researcher in PAIPR group and was a senior app developer with Imagitech. He is CEO of AriadneWare, a successful ios app company, having currently two apps on sale in the itunes store. This session will give an overview of the game engine, game production and a look into game assets and Will graduated from the University of Wales Newport with a BSc in Artificial Intelligence with Computer Games Development. He has worked on behalf of Heddlu Gwent Police and two local authorities to develop software for large user bases and have developed projects for various platforms including web, mobile, Nintendo DS and Xbox 360.
6 : Games and Interactive Media (Making a Game) Dann Rees Senior Developer, The Game Development workshop will deliver an overview of the game engine, game production and a look into game assets and programming. The workshop will also focus on commonly used game. Dann specialising in ios and Game Development and has developed apps for which include UBCoach, Dezrez, Butterflies of Europe & Ctoolz. Dann has an extensive background in.net windows and web applications, where he developed a variety of applications and services from helpdesk software and web auctions, to server backup and network admin tools. Dann is a qualified CG artist specialising in games. During his time at university he won a Ffresh award for a game cinematic, and was nominated for three separate awards in The Glammies. The passion in Dann s life is gaming. From childhood it s been his ambition to make games. Becoming a programmer was the first step towards this goal.

8 Join the Mobile Innovation Network (MINe) The MINe Network was formed in 2011 to support and facilitate the success of SMEs using mobile technology in Wales. The aim of the network is to give like-minded people from the UK and internationally opportunities to network, foster new ideas and find commercial opportunities through mutual collaboration. The Network is free to join and gives you access to support organisations, business development organisations, professional services, software houses, academics and others who have an interest in supporting new businesses in Wales.
