2 1 Health, child & social care Health, child and social care is all about helping people live their lives, whether that s providing treatment for patients, assisting people with daily tasks in their homes, helping offenders rehabilitate or offering lively, nurturing childcare. The work is rewarding and gives you the chance to earn a living while making a difference to other people s lives. Our courses will give you a rich mix of practical skills and knowledge. If you re a caring, respectful individual, you will find a variety of career options available to you. The NHS is the biggest employer in Britain, with more than 300 careers to choose from. Care homes for the elderly and for people with disabilities also employ many local people. FEES The fees listed throughout the individual course booklets indicate the amount you have to pay for the course. Course costs may include registration fees, exam fees, material and uniform costs and visits. Where this is the case, it is usually highlighted in the course description. It is also important to note that eligibility criteria may be subject to change based on government changes. There are three fee bands you will fit into: A, B or C. Please see below to find out which band is relevant to you. 3 Health, child & social care 2 HNC Advanced Practice in Working with Children and Families Code: Start date: 30/09/2014 Time: 3 days a week Duration: 2 years Fee: 2950 pa The Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a specialist vocational programme with a strong work-related emphasis. The course has theory and practical sessions, including lectures, group work, visiting speakers, discussions and visits. You will be assessed by essays, presentations, projects, workrelated portfolios, reflective journals and practical demonstrations. Certification in Assisting and Moving Individuals in Social Care Settings Code: Start date: 27/03/2015 Time: 6-8pm Duration: 6 weeks Fee: A: 55 B: 55 This course will develop your ability and understanding of how to select and use appropriate equipment and strategies when assisting and moving individuals. BTEC Award in Dementia Care Code: Start date: 19/09/2014 Time: 6-8pm Duration: 10 weeks Fee: A: 75 B: 75 This course focuses on providing the right care for individuals who suffer with dementia. You ll develop a clear understanding of what dementia is, its causes, the needs of individuals and how they can be supported and cared for. Edexcel. In partnership with HND Health and Social Care Code: Start date: 30/09/2014 Time: 2 days a week Duration: 2 years Fee: 5900 pa This course focuses on transferable skills, knowledge, understanding and values needed to support any service user group in any setting. It provides a broad understanding of the issues and practice of health and social care. It is suitable for people already in the industry or intending to study at a higher level in the future. The course includes theory and practical sessions, lectures, visiting speakers, visits, discussions and group work. Edexcel. In partnership with Health, Safety and Infection Control Code: Start date: Various Time: Arranged to suit Duration: 1 day Fee: A: 114 B: 114 This one-day course covers roles and responsibilities relating to health and safety. You ll learn how to complete risk assessments, grade risks in moving and assisting individuals, accidents and illnesses, medication and general healthcare. The course also includes hazardous substances, managing stress, fire safety, security at work, food safety, nutrition and hydration, preventing the spread of infection, the correct use of PPE and the appropriate procedures to waste disposal and cleaning methods. Award in the Prevention and Control of Infection Code: Start date: 22/05/2015 Time: 6-8pm Duration: 6 weeks Fee: A: 180 B: 180 This course has been developed to provide you with an understanding of the causes of infection and how these can be prevented and managed. The course is aimed at those working in the health and social care sector and will familiarise you with the correct use of PPE, cleaning methods and appropriate waste disposal procedure methods. 5 Health, child & social care 4 BTEC Award in Working in Medication Code: Start date: 09/01/2015 Time: 6-8pm Duration: 10 weeks Fee: A: 110 B: 110 This course will teach you to safely administer medicines to individuals. You will be taught the importance of different types of medication and the ways of administrating them, the changes a person may experience after taking medication and the organisation of medicines, including recording, reporting, auditing and storage procedures.
