3 Contract Crane Lifts If an individual or organization is looking to hire a crane and does not have the expertise in lifting operations they should not hire cranes but should opt for a contract lift. Before entering into a contract, employing organizations should satisfy themselves that the contractor has the necessary competence to carry out the work. Section 5.2 of BS7121 Part 1 states that; the employing organization may enter into a contract with a contractor who undertakes the work on their behalf. The parties to the contract should ensure that: a) all work is carried out in accordance with the BS7121 series; b) the contractor appoints a person, in accordance with 4.3 (Appointed Person) to the satisfaction of the employing organization; c) all information or services provided by the employing organization to facilitate compliance with the BS7121 series are notified to the contractor in writing. The contractor should carry out lifting operations in accordance with the BS7121 series. The contractor should be given full authority by the employing organization to work in accordance with the BS7121 series including, where appropriate, authority to control and instruct the employing organizations personnel. Although the BS7121 series is intended to assist organizations to comply with their statutory and common law obligations, it does not relive them from these obligations. Before entering into a contract, employing organizations should ensure that the contractor has the necessary competence to carry out the work in accordance with the BS7121 series. At Rapid Response Solutions all our surveyors are experienced in a large variety of lifting tasks, each lift is recorded to an Appointed Person, in categories so we can prove without question that we have used a suitable AP for your lift. 3

4 Rigging Support Our rigging crews are made up of experienced and trained CPCS accredited Lift Supervisors and Slinger Signallers. Because of the diverse customer base we have, the crews have gained experience in all market sectors. These experiences are used to assist in finding solutions to some of the more complicated lifting tasks. In June 2010 ALLMI & the CPA released a Best Practise Guide on the Safe use of Lorry Loaders, (a copy of the practise can be Like BS7121, the Best Practise Guide is not law, but should you end up in a Law Court following an incident, you would have to justify why you had not followed the industry standard. With the skills and experience Rapid Response Solutions have by working with mobile cranes, we are ideally suited to carrying out Contract lifts with Lorry Loaders as well. Within our transport fleet we have numerous combinations of Lorry loaders, some fitted front or rear on rigids, some fitted onto artic units and some fitted to trailers. We have fly jib attachments and winches on certain vehicles. For lifts of small AHU s onto domestic or shop buildings these vehicles are ideal, the councils prefer the use of a lorry loader over a conventional crane as normally this would reduce the number of vehicles in the road and the speed in which the road is reopened. Like a Contract Lift with a mobile crane, we would supply an Appointed Person, method statements, lifting plans, trained staff and insurance cover. 4

6 General Haulage At the core of our businesses is a large and varied fleet which encompasses vans, curtain side trailers and articulated vehicles of all types. Our daily operations handle part loads, full loads and urgent time critical consignments, packaging products and palletized goods across the UK and Ireland. We not only deliver your goods on time, we offer a collection and cross-deck facility to enable efficient use of our facilities. Operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; all vehicles are in constant communication with the individual traffic planners via cellular links and our combined navigation and tracking system. All proof of delivery documentation is scanned and stored with daily service available for time critical delivery. confirmation. Currently we are providing transport services on dedicated routes on a daily basis. Through our network of approved subcontract hauliers we are able to provide a competitive part load rates across the UK and Europe. Rapid Response s personnel have for many years been involved directly and indirectly with various projects which require specialised transportation and movement permits with the associated authorities. Whether you require semi low loaders, low profile flatbeds, low loaders, wafer beds, gondola trailers, or bogey trailers we have the solution to your needs. 6

7 Secure Logistics As an approved Ministry of Defence haulier we are experienced in the movement of secure assets. All drivers and co-drivers are security cleared. We have a proven track record with several blue chip companies for the distribution and movement of sensitive items. For Customers with regular contracts we can offer access to our live vehicle tracking system. Through this system we have total traceability with both current and historic data. The system is housed on a secure server with access via the internet. Secure movements can be any type of freight from small hand held items through to bulk loads and over sized abnormal loads. We can combine our secure load movements with ADR drivers to cover hazardous loads. We are in the progress of working towards Home Office Approval for the movement of Section 5 armaments. Crane Assisted Transport We can provide crane assisted transport with 4 and 6-wheeled crane vehicles, with cranes at either the front or the rear depending on your requirements. The cranes can be fitted with luffing fly jibs and a hoist winch if required to give a staggering 24 metres of straight boom and a capacity of almost 1,000kg at that radius. All the rigid crane lorries have drag trailers which give an additional 7 metres of load space if required. We can supply crane assisted transport on articulated vehicles, with cranes either on the tractor unit or on the trailer. With the cranes on the trailers we can offer, cranes at the rear of flat extendables, cranes on the neck of extendable step frames or cranes on the front of flat trailers. Our tractor units are STGO approved so wide and high loads can be lifted and loaded by these vehicles. 7

9 General Storage Rapid Response Solutions Ltd can supply suitable warehouse facilities for all types of products, from single pallets to large machinery. All our storage facilities have cranes and forklift trucks to ease loading and unloading. The storage areas are dry and secure with CCTV coverage. Storage can be arranged for short, medium or long term durations. As part of our contract lift packages we can arrange goods to be delivered to our storage prior to the lift date. This gives the customer the ability to carry out any preparation works prior to the lift; it also ensures there are no waiting time or abortive charges on the crane day, knowing we are in full control of the goods.
