3 Interntionl Journl of Electronics Communiction nd Computer Engineering Technovision-2014: 1st Interntionl Conference t SITS, Nrhe, Pune on April 5-6, 2014 C. Electrocrdiogrphy Electrocrdiogrphy (ECG or EKG from Germn: Elektrokrdiogrmm) is trnsthorcic (cross the thorx or chest).the etymology of the word is derived from the Greek electro, becuse it is relted to electricl ctivity, krdio, Greek for hert, nd grph, Greek root mening "to write". The hertbet is the definitive indictor for wide rnge of physiologicl conditions. This necessittes the use of sticky pds, pstes or gel. While this method works for sttionry ptients, it suffers from severl problems. First, the mteril used to construct the electrode or the pste could cuse skin irrittion nd discomfort, especilly if the subject is performing rigorous physicl exercise nd my be sweting. Another problem is tht, during motion, the electrodes my become loose, breking electricl contct nd cusing high noise spikes in the dt. There re different types of electrodes. It is impossible to get rid of the led cbles during the ECG monitoring. ECG is derived from the biopotentils of the crdic cell ctivities. At lest two electrodes re required to be plced prt to mesure the bio potentil difference s the ECG. This differentition depends on the mteril nd shpe of the electrodes. In Fig.1 () shows disposble electrodes. Disposble ECG Electrode is Ag or AgCl electrode, which consist of bse lining mteril, conductive gel, nd electrode buckle. The bse lining mteril uses the nonwoven fbric, the brethble pper, cotton. Its DC offset voltge is 100mV nd internl noise is 150μ.It hving only one time use. In Fig.1 (b) shows limb electrodes. These re electrocrdiogrphic electrode tht is ttched to n rm or leg. Due to their physicl property, electrodes cn tightly hold the nodes on hnds nd legs. In fig.1(c) nother type of electrode shown tht is bubble electrode. It mde up of metl nd rubber; Due to its physicl property bubble electrodes re connected with ll leds of the body. Every ECG electrode plced on the body is ttched by wire to n ECG mchine[2]. Fig.2 shows the plcement of electrodes. The electricity tht n electrode detects is trnsmitted vi this wire to the mchine, which trnsltes the results into wvy lines tht the mchine then records on piece of pper. For monitoring ECG signl, V1 to V6 points re vilble.v1 is the reference point voltge nd V2 to V6 points my be vrible. () Plcement on hnds (b) Plcement on chest Fig.2. Plcement of electrodes The electricity tht n electrode detects is trnsmitted vi this wire to the mchine, which trnsltes the results into wvy lines tht the mchine then records on piece of pper. The ECG records in such gret detil tht the results cn be used to dignose very brod rnge of hert conditions. Einthoven ssigned the letters P, Q, R, S nd T to the vrious deflections, nd described the electrocrdiogrphic fetures of number of crdiovsculr disorders ECG is interprettion of the electricl ctivity of the hert over period of time. ECG MONITORING SYSTEM With the rpid ging of popultion nd more ttention bout our helth, it s more nd more importnt for the infirm to do the physicl exmintion every dy, ccording to the long time record, we cn know the seriousness nd infer the trend of disese, then tke medicl tretment in time. However, s we ll know, it s very troublesome to hve physicl exmintion in hospitl, witing for hlf dy is not only wste of time, but lso chllenge to wek or hndicpped people. 4 Interntionl Journl of Electronics Communiction nd Computer Engineering Technovision-2014: 1st Interntionl Conference t SITS, Nrhe, Pune on April 5-6, 2014 the network instlled in the ptients homes. These nodes re then connected to centrl node locted t hospitl through n Internet connection. The nodes of the proposed wireless sensor network re creted by using combintion of ECG sensors, PIC24 microcontrollers, low-power wireless Zigbee network protocol clled the simplicity protocol. Fig.3. Wireless Helth Monitoring System ECG signls re first smpled by smll portble device which ech ptient crries. The cptured signls re then wirelessly trnsmitted to n ccess point locted within the ptient s home. This connectivity is bsed on wireless dt trnsmission t 2.4-GHz frequency. The ccess point is lso smll box ttched to the Internet through home synchronous digitl subscriber line router. Afterwrds, the dt re sent to the hospitl vi the Internet in rel time for nlysis nd/or storge. The benefits of this remote monitoring re wide rnging: the ptients cn continue their norml lives, they do not need PC ll of the time, their risk of infection is reduced, costs significntly decrese for the hospitl, nd clinicins cn check dt in short time. Also with the dvnced technique of Tem viewer, Dr. cn check nd prescribed ECG signl from nywhere. A. Hrdwre Design The hrdwre block consists of ECG circuit, Signl processing unit nd Zigbee modules. 1. Electrocrdiogrm Circuit ECG signl is very wek low-frequency signl, mplitude mv, frequency Hz, in the testing process mixed with other biologicl signls, 50Hz frequency nd the surrounding interference cused by electricl equipment [4]. Therefore, the cquisition method is component of extrct the signl, signl mplifiction, signl filtering nd signl processing. 2. Signl pre-processing It is expected tht ny ECG recognition system will hve to operte in noisy hospitl environment. The ECG signl is normlly corrupted with different types of noises. Power line interfce consist of 50 Hz pickup hrmonics, which cn be modelled s sinusoids nd combintion of sinusoids. Muscle contrction noise cuses rtificil milivolt-level potentils to be generted. The bseline electromyogrm is usully in the microvolt rnge nd therefore is usully insignificnt. Electrode contct noise is trnsient interference cused by loss of contct between electrode nd skin, which effectively disconnects the mesurement system from the subject. Ptient movement re trnsient bseline chnges cused by vritions in the electrode skin impednce with electrode motion. Digitl nd nlog of filters cn be used for noise cncelltion. Adptive filtering techniques re n effective method in cncelling the most interference polluting the ECG signl. An lterntive noise cncelltion method is bnd pss filtering. It cn be hving the combintion of low pss filter nd high pss filter. Electrodes re connected to the hnds nd legs. Here three led ECG circuit is designed. Different types of electrodes re used in this system. For connection of hnds nd legs; limb electrodes re used. Also insted of hnds; electrodes cn be connected to chest. Two types of electrodes re used in this system. For connection of hnds nd legs; limb electrodes re used. Fig.4. Block digrm of ECG system Isoltor hving input from the electrodes. It isoltes the signl nd lso uses clmping circuit. Due to tht signl cn get protected becuse lredy it is in smll vlues. The output of these sensors is in millivolts. It is mplified with the help of n instrumenttion mplifier. Instrumenttion mplifier mplifies the output which comes from electrodes through isoltor. AD620 IC used s instrumenttion mplifier. RA nd LA(ECG sensors re connected t the inverting nd non-inverting terminls of the instrumenttion mplifier, while RL(Right Leg) ECG sensors is connected t the output of n opertionl mplifier. The output of the ECG sensor is mplified nd it is filtered with bnd pss filter. Filter is mde up of low pss filter nd high pss filter. After the Instrumenttion mplifier, The filtered output is further mplified by non-inverting mplifier. Notch filter is designed to remove the noise of 50 Hz which my be get dded into circuit. Microcontroller gets mplified output voltge with removl of noise from the filter nd signls conditioning. This mplified voltge is connected to ADC1.2 input of PIC24 micro controller. The on chip ADC of PIC24 micro controller will convert this nlog voltge into 10-bit digitl nd l s stored in the on chip memory of PIC24 micro controller.
