5 User Survey Web-based survey received 166 responses from 21 countries (most from Baltic countries) 5

6 User Survey Results overall validated the need and benefits of. E.g. Average rating of importance of situational awareness to maintaining safe maritime operations was 4.4 (on scale 1-5). A common sentiment was that the developed system should have a high level of autonomy. Vessels already have small crew sizes and a lot of information to provide to different authorities. Differences were seen among users of pleasure craft and those of commercial ships, mainly in the type of user interface desired. 6

11 Conclusions aims to enhance situational awareness by integrating navigation, EO, and communication technologies and linking different elements in the maritime system. A key element is sharing of information (crowdsourcing) among ships, both large and small, as well as to/from maritime authorities. Interfaces and functionalities will be customized based on type of ship or system. Key design goals are intuitive interfaces and high level of autonomy. Robert.Guinness@fgi.fi 11
