3 Introduction This document describes the tracking feature of the FX 500 / FX 250 FleetBroadband Satellite Terminal. Product Overview The FX 500 / FX 250 FleetBroadband is the latest-generation maritime communication systems operating on the Inmarsat FleetBroadband Satellite System. It is compactly designed and easy to install. Using Inmarsat s most advanced commercial communication satellites, the FX 500 / FX 250 FleetBroadband provides simultaneous access to clear digital voice and high-speed data with , fax and SMS. It makes easier for the Captain to download the latest weather and navigational charts while the crew members can call, talk, send and receive text messages and around the world. 3

4 Application The fleet tracking capability with its configuration of geo-fencing is a valueadded feature for the FX 500 / FX 250 terminal. It includes information of the vessel s position with date and time-stamp for the tracking services. Additionally, there is a tracking function of geo-fence which is a virtual representation of the perimeter around a geographic area in the real world. After configuring a geo-fence, the FX 500 / FX 250 terminal sends a notification (an alert message), whenever an entering or leaving the fence is detected. The notification can be received by the Control centre, a laptop/server or a mobile phone. This notification usually contains information about the area surrounded by a geo-fence and the current location of the FX 500 / FX 250 terminal. The tracking service is only applied to FX 500 / FX 250 firmware (FW) version or higher. 4

6 Activation of Fleet Tracking Capability Step 1: Setting up a Fleet Tracking Server In order to track the location of one or more of FX 500 / FX 250 terminal(s), the user is expected to setup a Fleet Tracking Server at the monitoring location. The Server requires either an IP connection (via Internet) or the capability to send and receive SMS to/from the FX 500 / FX250 terminal. Tracking Info (SMS) Tracking Info (IP-Data) Internet Cellular/Satellite modem (to receive SMS) Fleet Tracking Server The Fleet Tracking Server and the FX 500 / FX250 terminal shall communicate with each other using Addvalue s proprietary fleet tracking protocol. Please contact Addvalue (support@wideye.com.sg) to obtain a copy of the Fleet Tracking Protocol Document to implement the Fleet Tracking Server application. The Fleet Tracking Server is, [i] capable of receiving the following: GPS locations at the predefined intervals (distance/time) Alerts at the entry and/or exit of predefined geo-fences [ii] capable of changing the following: the reporting intervals (distance/time) remotely the alert settings and geo-fence boundaries remotely 6

7 Step 2: Configuration of Tracking Mode via WebConsole There are 2 operating modes (IP Data mode and SMS mode) supported in FX 500/ FX 250 WebConsole under Settings>Tracking> Settings. One of them has to be selected and configured for Fleet Tracking operation to take place. IP Data Mode In this mode, the GPS reporting message is sent as an IP packet to the Fleet Tracking Server to the Server IP Address and Server Port Number configured as below GPS reporting time interval in seconds. GPS reporting will take place when one of the events happens first. GPS reporting distance interval in meters. UT retries if the Server does not acknowledge the receipt. SMS Mode In this mode, the GPS reporting message is sent as an SMS to the phone number of the target server specified in the SMS Number field. 7

8 This is a unique ID which is associated with the IMEI of the UT. Step 3: Configuration Geo-fence via WebConsole Up to 10 Geo-Fences are supported with shapes such as Circle, Rectangle or Polygon (up to 10 points each). There are two ways to enter latitude/longitude: Degrees, minutes, seconds. Decimal degrees. 3a. Select the desired latitude/longitude format 8

Select the alarm Trigger Type: (In, Out or In/Out): In (alert will be sent when vehicle/vessel enters the fence boundary) Out (alert will be sent when vehicle/vessel leaves the fence boundary) In/Out (alert will be sent when vehicle/vessel enters or leaves the fence boundary) 3d.Select the type of Geo Fence: Circle (1 points, radius) Rectangle (2 points) Polygon (minimum 3 points. maximum 10 points) 3e. Key in the Latitude and Longitude values. Click Apply to confirm. Step 4 :Configuration of Tracking APN via WebConsole Fleet Tracking in IP Data Mode will set up a dedicated background IP data connection (PDP context) automatically (without user intervention) which will be always on when the Tracking feature is enabled. User may configure an APN (Access Point Name) for this dedicated data connection. It can be either SIM Default or User Defined with optional username and password (required for Static IP data connection). 9
