18 Maritime Traffic Maritime Traffic Cooperation Gibraltar Strait Traffic Separation Scheme The identification of all the vessels transiting through the Traffic Separation Scheme in Gibraltar Strait is mandatory by IMO resolution since June In 2006 an amendment to the existing Traffic Separation Scheme was approved (COLREG.2/Circ.58) in order both to cater for the increasing in traffic for the new port of Tangier Med and to create a precautionary area where through and crossing traffic meets just south of Algeciras Bay. Joint cooperation between Morocco and Spain was effective. The new TSS was into force in July 2007 The existing mandatory Ship Reporting System MSC 63(67) was also modified entering in operation on December the first of 2010 by IMO Resolution now MSC 300(87) with the new VTS of Tangier Traffic Joint cooperation for vts operators between the two Centers (Tangier and Tarifa) with a program of visits Annual exercises of search and rescue operations between Morocco and Spain for evacuation of ferry
