1 Using Campus Pack in Your Course A Getting Started Guide STAFF GUIDE

2 Introduction Campus Pack is a set of tools including Wikis, Blogs, and Podcasts, which can be used to for a range of reasons, such as to give students a place to undertake group work online, or as tools to produce eportfolios. We have a nine minute video called An Introduction to Campus Pack at Edge Hill University (for staff) which aims to introduce the system as a whole. Why Might You use Campus Pack with your Students As Campus Pack contains a range of tools, you can use Campus Pack for activities that involve blogs, journals, wikis, discussion boards and podcasts. As students can share their work to people outside the institution, you could also use Campus Pack with students, to create eportfolios. Below we ll link to some overviews of the tools mentioned above, and examples of what the tools have been used for. They might give you some ideas. Wikis An Introduction to Wikis A short blog post introducing wikis and their uses in education. 4 Adding a Campus Pack Collaboration Space to Your Blackboard Area This section will explain how you can add a Campus Pack Collaboration Space to a Blackboard section where you have Instructor access. Before adding it to a live module, why not use your Test Area to experiment. In your Blackboard area, with the Edit Mode on, click on the + button, and select Tool Link from the menu. Give the link a name and for Type select Campus Pack Collaboration Space. You can make it available to users, or you can leave that for later if you only want to release it when it is finished. Click Submit. 3

5 The link will appear at the bottom of the link on the left of the screen. You can click on the left side of the link and drag it to where you want it to be. Click on the link and you see a page containing a list of Course members, a list of activity, a list of content that has been shared, buttons to add Portlets and content, and a cog icon that links to other options such as settings and permissions. 4

6 Adding Content The Add Content button allows a number of tools and templates to be added to the Campus Pack Collaboration Space. Basic LTI Tool This allows you to integrate an external tool with Campus Pack. It is unlikely that you will need to use this. Blog Use this to create a class blog, group blogs, or individual blogs. Discussion Board Create a simple Discussion Board. It s not as full featured as the Blackboard one, but it might be useful if you want groups to work completely within the Campus Pack environment. Journal Create private areas for students to work in individually. Podcast - Use this to create a class podcast, group podcasts, or individual podcasts. Wiki - Use this to create a class wiki, group wiki s, or individual wikis. Templates Some templates for documents, CVs, wikis, etc., have been added to save you time. Click on the Preview links on the right hand side of the screen to see what the templates contain. At the top of the screen there are some buttons. 5

7 Copy From Existing This allows you to import an existing Campus Pack resource, such as a wiki you have created, into this course. Add Shortcut This allows you to create a link to an existing Campus Pack resource that has been created elsewhere. Import an Archive Import a Campus Pack archive file. 6

8 Adding a Portlet The Add Portlet button allows you to display content on the home screen of the Campus Pack area. So for example you could add a Twitter widget, content from an RSS feed, or if you have deleted the default items from the page (e.g. the members list), you could re-add them here. So, for example the RSS Portlet would contain links to each post/article on the feed. The Twitter Portlet displays recent tweets from an account, using the HTML from a Twitter widget. 7

9 Other Ways of Accessing Campus Pack Tools As well as adding a Campus Pack Collaboration Space to your Blackboard Course, students can access the tools from other places. Adding an Individual Tool If you have a Content Area page in your Blackboard Course you can use the Tools menu to add an individual Campus Pack tool or item to your Course. Student Owned Areas From a student s Home tab in Blackboard, they can access Campus Pack through the Tools Module. 8

10 Here they can see their Campus Pack Home page. The Home tab contains links to the Collaboration Spaces in any modules that they have access to, a list of their latest activity, and links to any content and portfolios that they have set up. Other tabs contain lists of messages, groups that they are members of, and lists of who they have made connections with. 9

11 Other Sources of Help and support for Staff - The Help link within the Course Control Panel Click the Help > Blackboard Help link within the Course Control Panel at the bottom left of your course to access Blackboard Help for Instructors. - Learning Services Wiki Visit the Learning Services wiki within the GO Portal to access a range of information including, policies, guides and resources.
