1 CREATING COURSE HOME PAGE AFTER EXPORT/IMPORT To create a course home page, after you complete an export/import: Step 1: Open your course Step 2: Create the Course Overview Content Area 1. Click the plus sign in the upper left-hand corner of the course menu. 2. Click Content Area. 3. Type Course Overview in the Name box. 4. Select Available to Users. 6. Drag the new Course Overview content area page above Announcements in the course menu. Step 3: Add the Home page items under Course Overview Course Description 3. Type Course Description in the Name box. 4. Add your course number, title, and description in the Text box. Student Learning Outcomes 3. Type Student Learning Outcomes in the Name box. 4. Add your student learning outcomes for the course in the Text box. Welcome 3. Type Welcome in the Name box. 4. Click the arrow next to Mashups in the Content Editor. 5. Click Kaltura Media. 6. Click Add Media.
2 7. Click Upload Media or Record from Webcam. 8. Click Webcam. 9. Select your webcam from the dropdown menu. 10. Click Allow. 11. Click Record. 12. Record your welcome video and click Stop when you are finished. 13. Click Play to review the video, and then click Next if you are satisfied with it. Click Record if you want to rerecord the video. 14. Give the video a title (e.g., NURS1234 Welcome Video) Click Next. 15. Under 2. Mashup Options, select No for both Show media information and Show media description and tags. 16. Click Submit. 17. Click Submit again. Syllabus 3. Type Syllabus in the Name box. 4. Click the Insert File icon in the Content Editor (looks like a paperclip). 5. Upload your syllabus, and click Submit. 6. Click Submit again. Getting Started 2. Click Module Page under New Page. 3. Type Getting Started in the Name box. 4. Add the following in the Description box: View the faculty introduction video Review the course syllabus Introduce yourself on the Discussion Board 6. Click the Getting Started module page link that you just created. 7. Click Build Content. 8. Click Course Link. 9. Click Browse next to Choose Item. 10. Click Welcome. 11. In the Name box, type View the faculty introduction video. 12. Click Submit. 13. Click Build Content. 14. Click Course Link. 15. Click Browse next to Choose Item. 16. Click Syllabus. 17. In the Name box, type Review the course syllabus. 18. Click Submit.
3 Before completing steps 19-25, create the Introductions forum in the Discussion Board Content area, and then return to Getting Started within Course Overview. 19. Click Tools. 20. Click Discussion Board. 21. Click the radio button next to Select a Discussion Board Forum. 22. Select the Introductions discussion forum. 23. Click Next. 24. In the Link Name box, type Introduce yourself on the Discussion Board. 2 Getting Help 3. Type Getting Help in the Name box. 4. Add the following in the Text box: Blackboard Help Desk Phone: (513) blackboard@uc.edu Click here for the current Help Desk hours of operation. Quality Matters 3. Type Quality Matters in the Name box. 4. Add the following in the Text box: Quality Matters (QM) is a leader in quality assurance for online education and has received national recognition for its peer-based approach and continuous improvement in online education and student learning. The University of Cincinnati is a QM subscriber and is working toward the implementation of Quality Matters standards in all courses.
4 Step 4: Create a Module Page: 1. Click the plus sign in the upper left-hand corner of the course menu. 2. Click Module Page. 3. Type Home in the Name box. 4. Select Available to Users. 6. Drag the new Home module page above Instructor Resources in the course menu. Step 5: Add the Landing Page modules. To add the Modules, click the button, Add Course Module from the Home page. Step 6: Once you click the Add Course Module button, click Other under Browse by Category, and you will see the modules that need to be added. Click the Add button under each of the following modules: 1. UC Course Home Announcements 2. UC Course Home Assignments 3. UC Course Home Course Description 4. UC Course Home Getting Help 5. UC Course Home Getting Started 6. UC Course Home Learning Modules 7. UC Course Home Quality Matters 8. UC Course Home Student Learning Outcomes 9. UC Course Home Welcome Click OK to return to the home page when you are finished.
5 Step 7: Rearrange the Modules. Drag and drop the modules so that they mirror the image below: Step 8: Change the Course Entry Point to the Home page. Under Course Management Control Panel below the course menu, click Customization. Click Teaching Style. Under 2. Select Course Entry Point, select Home from the Entry Point drop down menu. Click Submit. It is extremely important to remember that you cannot
6 change the tab on the left called Course Overview or the names of the Course Description, Student Learning Outcomes, Getting Started, Welcome, Syllabus, Getting Help, and Quality Matters items with the Course Overview content area. Changing the names of any of these will break the functionality of the Home Page.
