3 Location Soaring Eagle Ranch is located north of the town of Virginia Dale in northern Colorado, on the Eastern Slope of the Rocky Mountains near the interface of the foothills and eastern plains in Larimer County. The neighboring towns of Laramie, Wyoming and Fort Collins, Colorado are each within a 45-minute drive. Both cities provide full FBO services to private, corporate and commercial airlines.

4 Working Ranch: Operations The Soaring Eagle Ranch offers an abundance of wildlife including: deer, elk and bear as well as, domestic livestock consisting of cows, pigs and chickens. The ranch has several stocked ponds for fishing and large areas of natural pasture for endless grazing. Directly behind the lodge is a long winding path connecting the main lodge to the working part of the ranch: barns, sheds, corral, a bunkhouse and full-time caretaker s home. This Colorado luxury ranch has substantial dry storage and all buildings are fed by standby power generators fueled by propane gas from large underground tanks. There are two wells that serve different parts of the ranch. In addition, there is a very large, underground system and water-storage tank adjacent to the main lodge providing fresh water year round. 10 Agricultural Values and Topographical Features The Soaring Eagle Ranch contains approximately 246 acres of Western Great Plains foothill and Piedmont grasslands. 689 acres of Rocky Mountain lower montane-foothill shrubland. 920 acres of Rocky Mountain Ponderosa pine woodland 20 acres used for agriculture. Approximately 172 acres are dedicated to operations and recreation. A conservation easement encompasses 720 acres and serves natural habitats, scenic and open space conservation values while still allowing for the optimum in recreational pursuits, such as hunting, fishing, and hiking. 15 or so horses and 50 cow/calf pairs are grazed on the property. Ranch elevation is 7200 feet.

11 History The area came under U.S. jurisdiction in 1803 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. At that time the Ute Indians, a forest-dwelling tribe, inhabited the mountains. In fact, today one may joy in searching for Indian artifacts in the many caves found on ranch property. Ute, which means "land of the sun", gave the state of Utah its name. The Ute Indians lived in bark covered teepee-like huts called wickiups, these were bulkier and less easy to relocate than the teepee, which they later converted to for practical reasons. Ute clothing was made from deerskin and the fur of small animals such as minks and jackrabbits. The Ute were very respectful of the environment, never overexploiting its resources, never hunting for sport, but only for food and clothing. Ute land included hunting grounds, along with places of spiritual importance. In the mid-1800 s, Cherokee Indians passed through the county on their way to California. Their route would later be known as the Cherokee Trail, and was the path later chosen by the stage line to move citizens westward towards the Gold Rush in California. In the 1860 s and 1870 s the region was dominated by the open range cattle industry and a growing number of small farmers. Later, in the 1880 s and 1890 s, steady growth brought vegetable crops and traditional grains. The hogbacks behind Fort Collins were found to be a good source for sandstone and so another mineral-based industry was born. (Larimer County, Colorado 2010)
