To increase aural, oral, reading, and writing proficiency on an intermediate level. 2. To develop an awareness of the Hispanic world through multimedia. Policies Introduction The Code of Academic Integrity and Honesty is in effect at all times. Turnitin.com will be used as applicable. The Student Handbook outlines the Code of Conduct and the Attendance/Admission to Classes procedures that will be in effect at all times. Additional information Pay particular attention to the following: *Any student who fails to comply will be asked to leave the class or lab and will be marked absent. *Only students registered for classes may attend classes. To avoid disruption of classroom instruction, children of enrolled students may not attend classes. Further, cellular phones, pagers, and other equipment, which may be considered disruptive to instruction, should not be brought to classes. *Regular attendance is expected. If an absence is unavoidable the student is responsible for completing all work missed during the absence. 3 Introduction EVALUATION PROCEDURES The student shall complete the behaviorally specified objectives of each unit with a minimum performance of 70 percent. The average of the unit testes and other grades constitutes two-thirds of the final grade. The final examination is the other third of the grade. Requirements Letter grades will be assigned according to the following scale: A= B=80-89 C=70-79 D=60-69 F=0-59 Final Grade: 25% Online QUIA Classwork 25% Online QUIA Student Activities Manual 30% Exams (I, II) 20% Comprehensive Final Exam Withdrawal deadline: April 10, 2007 (Last day to drop the class). 10 Topics 1.Communicating with your Instructor: Use WebCT Class rather than outside Completing homework and lab exercises. These are done online through QUIA and count 50% of the class grade. Note: If WebCt is ever down, you can always access QUIA directly through their website at books.quia.com/books 3. Check the Syllabus and Calendar for all activities, including Exams. 3. Any work not done by deadlines receives a "0". No incompletes are given except as stipulated in the Student Handbook. 4. Go to the Deptl Webpage and take the Pre-Test: Online Placement Test for Spanish. Submit copy of sheet with score to your instructor through the Class . Readings Read directions carefully: Work not done before deadlines receives a "0". Basically all homework and lab activities are due the day before the next lesson starts. Activities with a green dot are self grading, and can be re-done multiple times for an improved grade. Activities marked with a yellow or red dot need to be graded by the Instructor, and may not be redone once the instructor has graded them. Homework Grade: Includes ALL of the workbook exercises in QUIA Lab Grade: Includes ALL of the lab manual activities in Quia. Assignments 1. Go to Homepage, and click on the chapter. Browse through it and make sure you can open the activities, including QUIA.To do this Click on the links to access the resources available to you. Course Description Intermediate Spanish I ( Spanish 2311) This course offers the opportunity to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish through conversation, vocabulary acquisition, reading, composition, and culture. It includes a grammar review and further study of the Hispanic culture. Contact hours: the online equivalent of 3 lecture and 1 lab hours weekly on a 15 week semester. Prerequisite: Span 1412 with grade C or above, or the Departmental Online Placement Test. Note regarding Speaking in the Online class: The online format is particularly well-suited for the student with a strong speaking skill in Spanish, who needs to develop more fully in the other areas of language learning. Other students who need to take the class online should plan to sign-up for weekly Tutorials in the G-109 Foreign Language Lab, form a Study Group, and contact the Instructor for other suggestions.
