2 III. Travel Plan Airport Brussels Airport, BE-1930 Zaventem: has links to many European countries. To and from Brussels Airport Train The airport train station is located below the terminal (basement level-1). Up to 4 trains an hour connects the airport to Brussels North, Brussels Central and Brussels Midi stations. Moreover there are direct train services to the East, South, West and North of Belgium. Information on the schedules of all Belgian and international train services can be found on the Belgian Railways website. Enter BRUSSELS AIRPORT as departure station or destination. Taxi Taxis with a taximeter are permanently available in front of the arrivals hall. The fare from the airport to the city centre of Brussels is normally around 45. Licensed taxis can be recognized by the blue and yellow emblem. Travelers are advised to avoid unlicensed taxis! Bus The bus station is located on level 0 - one floor down from the arrivals hall - and can be easily reached by using the escalators or elevators. Centrally located at the bus station there are three platforms each with their specific use. Bus - De Lijn Bus company De Lijn operates express bus services to railway station Brussels North (line 471), NATO (line 471) and the Brussels underground station Roodebeek 2

3 (line 659). Further information can be obtained from: De Lijn travel information - Bus - MIVB/STIB The Airport Line is a 30-minute express service between Brussels Airport and the European quarter, at a stone's throw from the uptown shops. From Monday to Friday 8 pm the Airport Line is operated as an express service with number 12 and only serves the major stops. On weekdays after 8 pm, and the whole day on Saturday, Sunday and holidays the Airport Line is operated as a regular service with number 21, serving all stops. All MIVB/STIB buses depart from platform C. In order to save time and money, buy your ticket from the GO ticket vending machines before boarding. These machines accept Maestro bank cards, credit cards and coins. Tickets bought from the driver are more expensive. Timetable MIVB/STIB For real time information, you can visit and Money You can withdraw Euros from ATMs using your credit card or exchange currency at a money exchange or bank branch. Banks are usually open from 9 am to 3.30 pm, Monday to Friday. ATMs can be found throughout Brussels. The logos of the cards accepted are shown beside the machine. Weather Winter weather can get quite cold in Brussels. In December and January temperatures average just 3 C. At this time lows generally hover just above freezing and highs don t climb much above 5 C. Rainfall is at its standard level of 50-60mm but the increase of grey drizzly days and the decrease in daylight hours can give a gloomy feel. 3

4 Hotel Freezing temperatures and snowfall can occur in the city sometimes but the urban heat island effect means the city is often a couple of degrees warmer than areas lacking in numerous heated buildings and motor vehicles. A sunny crisp winters day with a dusting of snow is a beautiful sight in Brussels however. Hotel accommodation within Brussels during December is very expensive. We have however, managed to secure 25 rooms for the evening of 10 December 2012 at the Renaissance Brussels Hotel, at a discounted rate of Euros per person per night for a single room or Euros per person per night for a double room. Both prices include breakfast.
