1 ROME PILGRIMAGE OF THE EUROPEAN SOCIETY OF HISTORIC ARMED GUILDS AND BENEDICT PARADE Take part in an unforgettable event in November 2007 dedicated to His Holiness Benedict XVI on occasion of his 80 th birthday with your marching band or your costume group! The Benedict Parade is the most important event of a program for marching bands who want to come to Rome for a 6-day stay, from Wednesday to Friday. The parade is part of the Rome Pilgrimage of the European Society of Historic Armed Guilds (EGS), who will participate together with the marching bands and costume groups. 28 federations from 12 European countries are associated within the European Society of Historic Armed Guilds. There are around 3,000 members and a total of approximately six million marksmen and women. The EGS intends to preserve and strengthen the spirit of European fellowship and brotherhood, making it result in a lasting friendship which unites all European nations. In case a group prefers to come to Rome for the week-end only, it will be possible to participate in a shorter program from November 2 nd 4 th. Program Friday November 2nd, 2007 Arrival and accommodation in the hotels. In the late afternoon meeting with your own English speaking assistant and the event organizers. Saturday November 3rd, AM: Gathering of all participants at Piazza del Sant Uffizio (in front of the Audience Hall Aula Paolo VI ). Lining up of all bands and entrance to St. Peter s Basilica AM: Holy Mass celebration in St. Peter s. Noon: Special Audience with the Holy Father (to be confirmed) PM: Beginning of the parade PM: Distribution of torchlights and continuation along Via della Concilazione with final march to St. Peter s Square. Lining up on the right side of St. Peter s Square and performance of the Zapfenstreich. Afterwards, fireworks from the Gianicolo hill. Sunday November 4th, AM: Meeting of all participants at Piazza del Sant Uffizio. Lining up of the groups and entrance to St. Peter s Square AM: Performance of a music program at St. Peter s Square. Noon: Afternoon: Participation in the Angelus Prayer with His Holiness Benedict XVI. Guided tour to Christian Rome (St. Peter s, St. Paul outside the Walls, Catacombs). Monday November 5 th, 2007

2 Morning: Afternoon: Guided tour to Ancient Rome (Colosseum, Roman Forum, Arch of Constantine, Capitol Hill, Piazza Venezia, Trajan s Column). (This program will be proposed as an alternative program in case it is not possible to confirm the special Audience with the Holy Father on Saturday). Special program for the members of St. Sebastian s European Order. Guests not belonging to the Order are most welcome: PM: Round table at the Pontifical University Legionaries of Christ in Rome PM: Holy Mass at the University church. Tuesday November 6 th, 2007 Morning: Guided tour to Romantic Rome (Spanish Steps, Via del Corso, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona) PM: Holy Mass at the Basilica of St. Mary Major and investiture of the St. Sebastian s European Order. Wednesday November 7 th, 2007 Morning: Possibility to take part in the Papal Audience or, as an alternative, in a program of guided tours for the single groups. (In addition to the classic itineraries, we suggest a visit to the excavations of Ostia Antica or to the Lateran Palace). The group can consult the organizer about the group s arrival and departure day and time The organizer reserves his right to make any changes required for technical reasons. It is up to the groups whether to take part in the long program (November 2 nd 7 th, 2007) or in the short one (November 2 nd 4 th, 2007) ending at St. Peter s Square with the Angelus Prayer.
