12 County Events Being comfortable talking or performing in front of an audience is a very important leadership skill you will learn in 4-H. Ask your Leader or Helper to help you prepare: A Speech about your favorite topic A Demonstration to show others something about your project A talent performance for Share the Fun Sew or select an outfit you want to model You can practice these presentations at your club meeting. Then, enter County Events. You can win ribbons and qualify to go on to the District and State contests. Demonstrations One of the most important life skills we can learn through 4-H is the value of sharing what we know with others. There are many ways for sharing in 4-H, and one of the best is giving a demonstration. Demonstrations are short (5 to 12 minutes) teaching activities in which you show how to do a certain activity or skill related to your project. You can give a demonstration by yourself or with a friend. Demonstrations should be a part of the program portion of each meeting. Volunteer to give a demonstration at your next meeting! Demonstrations Getting Started Here s a way to plan your demo: The title will be What I will say: What I will do: Introduction Body of Demonstration Summary

14 Community Service Every 4-H club does something as a group to help their neighborhood. What would make your neighborhood a better place to live? Can you and your club members do something to help? Bring your ideas to your club meeting. After everyone has a chance to share their ideas, the club will vote on what to do. Be sure to show up on time and be ready to join in the community service activity on the day you plan to have it. Duval County 4-H 1010 N.
