NTU staff Configure wireless settings for Windows XP 1. Open the network connections control panel. (Click Start, Control Panel, select Classic View if not already selected, click Network Connections) 2. Right click on your wireless network connection, and select Properties. 3. Select the Wireless Networks tab. 4. Ensure the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings box is ticked. 5. In the list of preferred networks, if ntu-staff or ntu-mobile exists, select it and click Remove. 6. Click the Add button (in the preferred networks section) 7. In the Association tab, enter ntu-staff or ntu-mobile into the Network name (SSID) box. 8. Change the Network Authentication drop down option to WPA2. 9. Change the Data Encryption drop down option to AES (if you are having problems using WPA2 or only have the option to use WPA then you might need to pick WPA and TKIP). 10. Select the Authentication tab. 11. In the EAP type drop down menu, select Protected EAP (PEAP) 12. Untick the Authenticate as computer when computer information is available box.
13. Untick the Authenticate as guest when user or computer information is unavailable box. 14. Click on the Properties button. 15. Untick the box Validate server certificate.
16. In the Select Authentication Method drop down menu, select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP-v2) 17. Tick the box Enable Fast Reconnect 18. Tick the box Enable Quarantine checks. 19. Click on the Configure button. 20. Untick the box Automatically use my windows logon name and password 21. Click Ok (EAP MSCHAP-v2 window) 22. Click Ok (Protected EAP Properties window) 23. Click Ok (Wireless Network Connection window)
24. Your computer should now attempt to connect to the wireless network this may take 30 seconds or so. 25. Lookout for a yellow popup bubble at the bottom of your screen saying Click here to select a certificate or other credentials for connection to the network ntu-staff or ntu-mobile, click on it when it appears. 26. In the Enter Credentials window enter the following details: Username: your NTU username. Password: your NTU password Logon Domain: leave blank 27. Click Ok Your computer should then be connected to the wireless network. This may take up to 30 seconds. Then continue through this guide. Once you have successfully entered your username and password for the ntu-staff network, Windows XP will remember it forever. In order to delete your credentials from your computer, please download the clear login utility. This is useful where laptops are on loan or shared. Ensuring your device is compliant for the NTU Network The ntu-staff wireless network allows you to gain full network access. Because of this it requires some additional configuration. This allows checks to take place on your device to ensure Windows is up to date with security patches and that an anti-virus product is installed. 1. After connecting to the wireless network ntu-staff and going to a browser you will be re-directed to a login page (if your client client is recognised for single sign on you will not get the login page and will be prompted with the Launch cisco nac agent screen).
2. 3. Launch the agent and if successfully installed you will see the screen below.
4. Whilst this screen is active the Cisco NAC agent is being configured and after 20 secs or so you will see the Temporary Network Access screen appear. This is checking that your device is compliant (latest Windows security updates and a valid anti-virus program is installed) 4. If the device complies (if not see section Device compliance failure) you will then be granted full network access. Click Ok. You are now free to use the web or to browse to network shares on the NTU network as if you were using your PC.
Subsequent connections to the ntu-staff wireless The Cisco NAC web agent only needs to be installed once. Subsequent connections will use the NAC agent and automatically log you in. The agent will then check your device for compliance and if compliant will grant full network access.
Device compliance failure If your device is not compliant this means that your Windows updates are not up to date and/or you do not have a recognised anti-virus program installed. Clicking on Show Details will show you what is not compliant. You will have some time to be allowed to access the internet to download and install the windows updates or an anti-virus product in order to be come compliant.
