2 BIBLIOSTAR 2014 The connected library How service strategies are changing in the age of social networks As every year, Bibliostar is taking place at the same time as the Convegno delle Stelline, organized by Biblioteche oggi in cooperation with respected institutional and professional partners. The nineteenth edition of the Convegno delle Stelline takes place in Milan on the 13th and 14th March 2014 and will be, as always, an opportunity to encounter a public of librarians interested in market changes and innovations. The Convention has always paid great attention to innovations, often stimulated by technological changes, which affect service strategies and related cultural models. Already in 2013, with its theme of "sharing", it began an analysis, through individual contributions, of how libraries have reacted faced with the development of social networks. The aim of this edition is to investigate systematically, with in-depth study of every aspect, the role that the library can play, putting itself in turn into play, in the "social" dimension. The starting point is an awareness that social networks have a double role: aggregator of information which is varied, but also relevant and articulated, and a communicative, informative space within which the library must know how to move by producing information which is effective, abundant and precise. Among the stages of this course will be consideration of the use of social networks by publishers and specialist firms, activities carried out and results obtained and, above all, the role of the library in this communication.

3 BIBLIOSTAR 2013 IN NUMBERS The theme of the Stelline Convention in 2013 was "Libraries in search of allies. Beyond cooperation, towards new strategies of sharing". The objective achieved was to look beyond traditional forms of inter-library cooperation to arrive at new strategies and sharing practices in a project capable of involving both the library and the multiplicity of other players (including publishers and other firms) with whom it must necessarily relate. In the Sala San Carlo Borromeo, Thomson Reuters involved numerous librarians in specially organized workshops and in-depth seminars, illustrating the products and services which the company currently makes available. A complete relaxation area offered to librarians a much-appreciated novelty in the 2013 edition to take a break and look at documents from the previous convention on the Sony ereader.
