Subscriptions to all major journal publisher deals, including Science Direct, Wiley Blackwell, Springer, Taylor & Francis and Nature Publishing Group. Free document delivery to your inbox for articles from unsubscribed journals. Thousands of online electronic journals, databases and ebooks. On site seamless access to most Library Services subscriptions. Offsite login with your King s username and password. Nearly six million searches per year through our subscribed databases. Archives & Special Collections King s Archives holds a unique collection of institutional and research papers from the College and organisations which it has founded or with which it has merged, including King s College Hospital, Guy s and St Thomas medical and dental schools and the Institute of Psychiatry. Also included is the Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives, a leading repository for research into modern defence policy in Britain, which covers all the armed services and all wars, campaigns and peacekeeping initiatives in which British forces were engaged from the Second Boer War ( ) onwards. The Foyle Special Collections Library houses over 170,000 items books, maps, slides, sound recordings and manuscripts. Its collections range in date from the 15th century to the present and span the humanities, social sciences and sciences, but areas of strength include medicine, natural history, travel, world history (especially Greece, Portugal, Germany and the former British Empire) and theology. A rolling programme of exhibitions in the Maughan Library s Weston Room explores different aspects of these wide-ranging collections
5 Research support Library resources If we don t have a book or resource you need to support your research we will either buy it for the library, borrow a copy from another library or provide e-document delivery to your inbox. These services are all free of charge. Recommend a book for purchase by ing [email protected] Request interlibrary loans or document delivery via the library catalogue Support and advice Information Specialists support research staff and postgraduate students with: Advanced training in information retrieval and management, including current awareness strategies and citation analysis Support with finding research funding via the online service Research Professional One-to-one support with literature reviews, including systematic reviews Advice on all aspects of publication and dissemination of research, including copyright and open access publication. 6 Supporting teaching & learning Reading lists Library Services will purchase books, produce online reading lists and digital course packs to support your course modules see the Information Resources webpages at Liaison and support Information Specialists with subject expertise support your teaching and provide: Library liaison by attending teaching committees and staff student liaison committees Information retrieval and management training for students, integrated into course modules Advice for students on correct referencing and citation practices, supporting the use of TurnitinUK, the plagiarism awareness service. Enquiry Services Enquiry Desk staff in all libraries provide: On-demand support in identifying and locating library resources Help in navigating all library services Help with basic IT enquiries. 8 Maughan Library
7 Bibliographic software Library Services provides: Site licences for EndNote and RefWorks Information Specialists with in-depth knowledge of the licensed software, plus experience of Reference Manager and other free bibliographic software applications Training and individual support and advice for staff Timetabled training for students as required Support with moving from Reference Manager to EndNote. Training Staff and postgraduate students can book on to various IT short courses, covering MS Office 2007, statistical software such as NVivo and SPSS, as well as information retrieval training. Library Services & IT Services Library Services liaises with IT Services regarding provision of computing facilities in libraries and in supporting staff and students. IT Services provision includes: Over 1,200 student computers in libraries and student computer rooms Campus and global desktops with general and departmental software to support student learning on and off campus Computing, data storage, network and wireless infrastructure Audio visual and video-conferencing services The College website and portal services The e-learning service. Library Services works with IT Services to support: Provision of suitable student computing facilities Availability of software required for teaching Provision of software for research Disseminating news about IT Services developments and issues
