7 FRIDAY Supplementary Social Programme Trip to Zakopane - The City of Mountains: details to be confirmed The Zakopane region is widely known for its unspoiled nature and majestic landscapes. Not only are the Tatras the highest Polish mountains but they also share many characteristics with the Alps. Being the National Park for over forty years, the Tatras are under strict protection thus, it is an ongoing concern of the developing town not to interfere or endanger its natural environment. Zakopane is Poland's best known ski resort but it also offers excellent conditions for mountain hiking and climbing, as well as for many other sport disciplines. Zakopane guarantees a perfect rest throughout the year. Zakopane is the capital of the Tatras, Poland's winter capital and the pearl in the tourism world. 250 km of trails offer summer hiking filled with amazing scenery. You can rent bicycles and ride around the town or choose the trails. The town offers very unique architecture, history, museums, art galleries, fine dining for every taste, market full of souvenirs and among other attractions are trips to caves or paragliding. From Zakopane you can go for a raft trip along 15 km of frothing river water in the spectacular Dunajec river gorge. On both sides of the river there are historic Gothic Renaissance castle in Niedzica and the 14th century ruins of the castle in Czorsztyn. In the neighbouring town of Debno there is the 15th century timber church of international renown. Details will follow. 7
