7 Embark on a journey of discovery to learn the story of Czech design and visit the places where you can appreciate design in all its forms. Zlín is proud of its shoes, architecture, and young talent; Nový Bor is well-known for its master glass craftsmanship; Mladá Boleslav brings engines on wheels to life; Brno leads the field of graphic design; and Prague is the capital of utility design, fashion, and architecture. CzechTourism has linked all of these cities and towns together in a series of events under the tile Discover the creations of the rising stars of design in one of its traditional Czech centres: the unique, functionalist city of Zlín. The results of the prestigious international Design Talent competition will be announced at Meet Czech Design, and a wide variety of related events include open-air exhibitions, the spectacular Fashion Show Night, tours, lectures, opening night parties and the opportunity to meet leading designers. This year, a record 510 projects from around the world were registered for the competition. A spectacular event with performances by the Cartonnage music group, the classic Svoz řepy ensemble, animated films and interesting guests. 12 LOCATIONS OF COOPERATION PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED IN THE CITY AND PUBLIC AREAS Park at the former Centroprojekt building, Štefánikova 167, Zlín The aim of the exhibition is to present ten projects that were created for the public in collaboration between architect designer, architect artist, architect curator artist, etc. Projects had to be successfully completed and illustrate the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in the Czech Republic and Slovakia Opening: 2 May 2014, 4 pm MULTIMEDIA FORMS OF CONCEPTUAL DESIGN Creative Hill College, Film Studio Complex, Filmová 174 throughout the entire festival 10 am 6 pm An exhibition offering an attractive mix of conceptual design and multimedia technologies. Visitors will experience first-hand several innovative interactive exhibits and learn what happens behind the scenes in the mysterious film studios. The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Atelier of Multimedia Creation at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno. You can visit the unique studio where the famous motion pictures wizard Karel Zeman and his colleague Hermína Týrlová used to work, which is normally not accessible for the public. Opening: 1 May 2014, 6 pm NIANCE MIXER STAGE NIANCE/DOČAsná Gallery (Růmy 1643) 28 April 3 May 2014, 10 am 6 pm. A project by art students of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications at Tomáš Bata University in Zlín, which focuses on conceptual creation. Two workshops were organised under the Niance project focusing on the topic of land art and spatial art in the centre of Zlín. Opening: 2 May 2014, 8 pm HATCHERY OF DESIGN IN ZLÍN Zlín Chateau, Soudní 1, Zlín open throughout the entire festival 10 am 6 pm A time-collection exhibition of designers who were born and studied in Zlín, or whose work was inspired by the city of Zlín and who achieved professional success. Opening: 1 May 2014, 4 pm QUEENS GRAFFITI JAM MIXER STAGE Front wall of the underpass in the park near the bus station 1-2 May am 6 pm. Graffiti creations on the old wall in the park at the Zlín bus station. Writers and graffiti magicians will use their unique style to transform the environment at the Zlín park near the station. Participants in this exhibition are: NONECK, LUDĚKEIM, EIKUL, DSLajfstajl and graffiti legend NOMAD. Opening: 1 May 2014, 8 pm VIKTOR S APARTMENT MIXER STAGE Max32 Theatre, Building 32 in the Svit facility 29 April 3 May 2014, exhibition open 10 am 6 pm Non-traditional exhibition of art students of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications at the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín. The exhibition is based on the concept of a real apartment, which is composed of art pieces designed by art students. The exhibition has its own story about a character named Viktor and his life. In 2006 the exhibition was presented as part of the Mixer Festival. Opening: 1 May 2014, 5 pm ZLÍN THE CRADLE OF CZECH DESIGN Zlín Chateau, Soudní 1, Zlín, former restaurant 1-3 May 2014, open throughout the entire festival 10 am 6 pm This exhibition presents in a unique and so far unprecedented way the beginnings of Czech design in the broader context of interwar education and cultural activities supported by the Bata Company in Zlín. In the second half of the 20th century this foundation gave rise to a number of major institutions, especially in the field of design.
