We offer interactive tours of the Sculpture Park and current exhibitions for schools, colleges, universities, specialist and community groups. Each tour is specifically designed to meet the needs and interests of individual groups. Michael Craig-Martin Wheelbarrow (Red) the artist and New Art Centre, Roche Court Once Upon a Sculpture Story telling project for Schools in partnership with Strawberry Hill Explore Laura Ford s exhibition through the arts and literacy curriculum and tell your story to other children in Wiltshire and beyond. September - October 2015 Students with Laura Ford Days of Judgement 2 the artist and New Art Centre, Roche Court Once Upon a Sculpture will be an opportunity to tell stories based on Laura Ford s sculptures to other children in Wiltshire and beyond. All schools will be invited to visit Strawberry Hill House or the New Art Centre Sculpture Park, Wiltshire to see the art exhibitions by Laura Ford and use these visits and the artworks to inspire short stories. Creative Writing needs to be submitted back to the Trust and will be exchanged between the two venues in order to share and celebrate the art of storytelling. A certificate with a message from the artist will be awarded to each participating school.
3 Workshops with Artists Laura Ford Days of Judgement with students at Roche Court and on the lawn at Strawberry Hill the artist and New Art Centre, Roche Court Laura Ford workshops at Strawberry Hill, Twickenham Thursday 1 October 2015 Suitable for Primary or Secondary school pupils 5 per student, no charge for accompanying adults. 2pm 4.30pm Maximum of 30 Places Laura Ford will be leading creative workshops to explore the themes of her practice and in particular her new exhibition at Strawberry Hill. The workshop will include a tour of the exhibition with performance and creative writing activities.
4 Workshops and Opportunities at the New Art Centre, Autumn 2015 Nathan Coley Heaven is a Place Where Nothing Ever Happens 2008 and A Place Beyond Belief 2013 the artist Nathan Coley Lecture Monday 5 October per student 10.30am 12.30pm Suitable for colleges and universities Artist Nathan Coley will discuss his current exhibition. The event will be a unique opportunity to hear the artist s inspirations and themes behind his practice and current exhibition at the New Art Centre. The audience will have the opportunity to explore the artist s exhibition before listening to the presentation and a Q&A session.
5 Designed to Communicate Jamie Hobson, Programme Director - Graphic Communication at London College of Communication will lead a workshop and careers seminar to explore the Design, Communication and Media Industry Suitable for Key Stage 4 and 5 pupils, Maximum 30 Tuesday 03 November per student 10am - 2pm Join specialist lecturer Jamie Hobson to uncover the vital role of design and media and its impact on our daily lives. All will participate in specially designed practical workshops to discover how design is determined by the way we look, think and talk about the visual world around us. As part of the day Jamie will also give a presentation on potential career paths within the industry including: illustration, games design, graphic design branding and identity, motion graphics and film, interaction and information. Making Your Way A careers seminar to explore making in art, craft and design Thursday 19 November per person 10am 3pm Suitable for Colleges and Universities. Age Maximum 5 places per institution on first instance. Making Your Way will be a one day seminar for young people aged to find out more about careers in art, craft and design from professionals in the sector. The day will introduce the importance of making and how creativity is applied in a variety of roles within art, craft and design. Guest speakers will present their roles and student delegates will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain practical advice from professionals, supporting their own studies and future careers.
6 Teacher Training and Support Art Licks weekend Friday 2 October per person including free bus from Roche Court *subject to availability 9.30am 6.30pm The Art Licks Weekend is a festival that showcases the work of pioneering young artists, curators, galleries and project spaces in London. Following on from the success of our recent artist studio visit we will be taking artists, teachers and professionals to London to see the contemporary practices and current exhibitions. David Batchelor s studio the artist Teachers Open Evening Thursday 8 October 2015 Free with Light Refreshments 5pm 7pm Teachers Open Evenings will be provided throughout the year, with special talks and tours by New Art Centre Curator, Director of Exhibitions Stephen Feeke. The event will be an opportunity to find out more about the Trust s programme and to meet with like-minded professionals. These opportunities will also be hosted at partner venues to coincide with the New Art Centre programme. A special tour of the current exhibitions will be provided as well as an opportunity to reflect on the academic year, the successes and challenges. Share with us your thoughts on ways we can best support an introduction to modern and contemporary art for all. Primary Teachers Curriculum Support Tuesday 29 September Free with Light Refreshments 5pm - 7pm Teachers are invited to join us for an after school session designed to review the Primary School arts curriculum held at Salisbury Playhouse. Conrad Shawcross Manifold the artist and New Art Centre, Roche Court Arts professionals from a variety of arts organisations in Wiltshire will be present to offer advice. Combining teachers own knowledge, arts professionals from The Roche Court Educational Trust, Salisbury Arts Centre, Salisbury Playhouse, Salisbury International Arts Festival and Wiltshire Youth Arts Partnership will be on hand to offer support and ideas to develop the schools art curriculum.
7 ARTiculation 2016 The Roche Court Educational Trust s ARTiculation initiative is designed to stimulate students interest and understanding of art while developing individual thinking, observation, research, language and presentation skills. As part of our outreach ARTiculation workshops for year olds are open to all students from state-maintained schools and are held throughout the year. The ARTiculation Prize is an annual competition for sixth formers takes place in the spring. In 2016 the prize is being held at nine regional venues. A student will be selected from each heat to speak at the finals which is part of the ARTiculation Conference at the University of Cambridge. This conference is open to all sixth form students and is designed to encourage debate and engagement with the arts. ARTiculation Support Session Monday 5 October Free for Year 12 and Year 13 students 1.00pm 3.30pm A free workshop to explore the artworks at Roche as a stimulus for taking part in the ARTiculation Prize (Heat at the New Art Centre will be Tuesday 1 March). The workshop will provide advice and support for content, structure and delivery in preparation for making a presentation. Gary Hume Four Doors the artist Nathan Coley Lecture Monday 5 October Subsidised price of am 12.30pm We are delighted to offer each participating school of the above ARTiculation Support Session 5 subsidised places to attend a lecture by Nathan Coley in the morning, at 3 (normally 5). 8 ARTiculation Discovery Day Year 10 and Year 11 students Tuesday 13 October The day is free but a late cancellation fee of 10 per head will apply. Please note that places are limited to 10 students per school. 9.30am 2.30pm Antony Gormley Another Time the artist and New Art Centre, Roche Court Using the internationally acclaimed artworks exhibited at the New Art Centre, Roche Court, Yr 10 & 11 students are invited to explore selected artworks through personal observation, discussion and research. Led by art experts, students will be encouraged to think independently, ask informed questions and analyse information. At the end of the day every student will deliver their research and personal responses in short group presentations to the workshop leaders and their fellow student investigators. John Hubbard Mineral Landscape the artist and New Art Centre ARTiculation Regional Heat for sixth form students Tuesday 1 March pm 9pm The ARTiculation Regional Heat will be held at the New Art Centre and one speaker will be selected to go through to the finals. ARTiculation Conference and Finals Clare College, University of Cambridge Friday 4 March am 4.30pm This conference is open to all sixth form students and is designed to encourage debate and engagement with the arts. Limited student travel bursaries are available and must be applied for at the time of booking. 9 Upcoming Exhibitions GROUNDWORK 1 August - 27 September 2015 A group exhibition curated by Holly Willats (Art Licks) and Alma Zevi (Independent Curator). Presenting five early-career, UK-based artists who are responding to Land Art in new and surprising ways: Miriam Austin, Rob Chavasse, Freddy Dewe Mathews, Tom Lovelace, David Murphy. Nathan Coley 3 October - 15 November 2015 We will host Nathan Coley's first exhibition at Roche Court which will comprise newly commissioned works for the gallery and the park, including sculpture and a text piece he is planning for the entrance to Roche Court. In his work, Coley explores a curiosity for the ways in which we relate to public spaces and architecture. He is also interested in what we believe. Ceri Richards: Late Paintings From 21 November 2015 The last paintings of Ceri Richards ( ) are large, colourful and compelling and explore the artist's major preoccupations with music, poetry and landscape. One of the most successful and important painters and print-makers of his generation, which included Moore, Hepworth and Nicholson, Richards was a prizewinner at the Venice Biennale in After his death, he was the subject of major retrospectives at Tate (1981) and at the National Museum of Wales (2002).
