5 ITS: SIRIO & RITA SIRIO: The municipality has activated an IT system called SIRIO : 11 cameras have been installed at the main access streets to the L.T.Z. The L.T.Z. area is 3,2 km 2 and roughly corresponds to the city s historic centre. The L.T.Z. restrictions are in force from 7.00 to 20.00; this system automatically issues a fine to car drivers not authorised to access the L.T.Z.. RITA: The municipality has activated another IT system called RITA (14 cameras) to control the bus lanes 24 hours a day, and the T area (situated within the L.T.Z.) to avoid unauthorised entry into the historic centre.

9 RITA MUNICIPALITY OF BOLOGNA ACTIVATION OF BUS LANE ELECTRONIC CONTROL SYSTEM: RITA Reduction of more than 70% of unauthorised cars in PT dedicated lanes and 30% in the main roads in the centre
10 Road pricing in Bologna PRICING POLICIES LTZ access is based on an authorising system: the support of ITS (SIRIO and RITA systems) has allowed the deployment of pricing policies for the LTZ. Strategies: to create a flexible way to grant city centre access to everybody (even if with several restrictions) to improve urban air quality to improve traffic situation and reduce congestion to promote correct use of public spaces Administrative tool: City Freight delivery Plan
11 ACTIONS AND TOOLS: 1. PAYMENT OF DELIVERY PERMITS PRICING POLICIES the permits, which were previously released for free and with no time limit to al operators, have been issued under the payment of a yearly subscription, which varies in relation to the pollution category of the vehicle (i.e. Euro category), and with a validity of 2 years. Prices: from 25,00 euro to 100,00 euro per year 2. LTZ PAY-TO-ACCESS TICKET These tickets have been introduced to allow people not otherwise entitled to enter the LTZ area, to access it occasionally; these new tickets substitute the old ones that were without monthly limitations. Features: daily (5 euro) 4 day ticket. Valid for 4 consecutive days (12 euro) Limits: Each month, only 3 daily tickets (or just one 4-day ticket) can be bought for the same vehicle.
