2 The application requires installing Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader, Sun Java or alternate browsers or other plug-ins onto the Student s home computer and running this District program. The District is not responsible for any repairs or maintenance to non-functioning computers at home to meet the application requirements. Suggested Minimum Requirements for A+ Browser-based Version Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7: Processor: 3.0 GHz Intel /AMD single core, or faster System Memory: 1GB or greater, 2GB for Vista and Win7 Browser: Internet Explorer 8, 9, or 10; Google Chrome version 27 or higher; Adobe Flash Player 10.2 or higher; JavaScript and cookies enabled; caching disabled Apple Macintosh OSX 10.7 and 10.8: Processor: Intel Core Solo, 1.50GHz or faster System Memory: 1GB or greater Browser: Safari browser; Google Chrome version 27 or higher; QuickTime ; Adobe Flash Player 10.2 or higher; JavaScript and cookies enabled; caching disabled Apple ipad 2; ipad 2 (CDMA model); ipad (3 rd and 4 th generation): Browser: Safari browser Google Chromebook: Browser: Google Chrome version 27 or higher Internet Bandwidth On-Line Connection Speeds - it is recommended that all Students have broadband or better connection speeds. Generally, the equivalent of 1.5 Mbit/s DSL or Cable service or better will provide the best experience. It is recommended to obtain the latest versions of Adobe Flash and Reader, and Sun Java software components so that there is no question that the versions installed are the minimums needed to run A+ at home. To obtain the latest versions of these components, open any supported web browser and navigate to: You will see the following web page:

3 (Continued on next page) On the bottom of this picture (above), you will see the links that will take you to the software vendor s websites to obtain the needed components. Adobe Flash: From this page, it is recommended that you uncheck the box in the middle to install Google Chrome as your default browser and Google Toolbar for IE as the District does not recommend installing unnecessary components as part of this installation. Then click the yellow Install now box in the lower right and follow the prompts and instructions given by the resulting web pages to accept the download, run the installer, accept the installation, etc. Java: From this page, it is recommended that you select the Windows or Mac version appropriate to your computer (a PC or a Mac). For almost all cases of PCs, choosing the 32-bit version of Java is preferred as the 32- bit web browser is default on most systems. If you find that you experience issues trying to access A+ on a PC after installing the 32-bit version of Java, come back and install the 64-bit version as well. Adobe Acrobat Reader: From this page, it is recommended that you uncheck the box in the middle to install Google Chrome as your default browser and Google Toolbar for IE as the District does not recommend installing unnecessary components as part of this installation. 4 After you have completed the component installs or updates, you can now attempt to logon to A+. Return to the original browser tab that you opened with the picture shown below: You will now select A+LS Client (Webstart) which is the button on the right side, below Browser Playback. You may see a Java screen pop up and a progress bar briefly, and then see this screen:

5 (Continued on next page) After that splash screen, a new browser window should open up and looks just like this: At this point, your computer is functioning properly, and A+ was able to utilize the installed components to start the program. If you did not get this screen, or you got messages of some kind, proceed to Troubleshooting on the following page. From this point forward, you now provide your A+ logon credentials to access the program and use it like you do at your High School. Important Note: This should be the second logon you use while on campus at your High School which is the account that uses the LAST 3 of the Student ID. Do not use the first logon account you use while on campus at your High School (this account is formatted differently and uses the LAST 4 of the Student ID). Your account has already been established for you, and you should have already been using it your High School, so you should be aware of the correct account.

6 TROUBLESHOOTING Errors with trying to Launch A+: Installing, or reinstalling all the needed components is the best fix for any connection issues messages about missing needed components. Errors trying to logon with A+ credentials: Again, be sure you are using the correct A+ logon and not the Windows logon when signing in to A+. As an example of A+ logon credentials, the following is a Student Name: Joe Smith This student has a student ID of Therefore, the A+ logon for this student is: SmithJ456 The windows logon (the one with the LAST 4 of your student ID) will NOT work for A+. /// END
