1 Dear Dear Parents, Parents, Sue Mackay Last Friday we held our traditional Anzac Day Service at school and Principal all our students are to be commended for their respectful behaviour at this important event Anzac Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915 It is the day on which we remember all Australians who served and died in war and on operational service The spirit of Anzac, with its qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity I have taken this quote from the Australian War Memorial website Week Week 9 Term 2 Term 3, 2, 10th 4th September At Kororo PS we place great importance on tradition and we involve our students in our ANZAC Day Assembly Our SRC did a wonderful job in hosting the service and I would like to thank Mr Andrew Cairns from the RSL sub branch who addressed the students Mr Cairns is a veteran of the Vietnam War and he talked to the children about doing all we can to avoid conflict Mr Paul Richards, a member of our local pipe band gave up his time to play the Lament on the bagpipes This is traditionally played at Remembrance Services as an expression of grief and mourning of the dead A representative from each class also laid a poppy underneath the Australian flag A special mention of our Year 6 group who lead the singing so confidently and Jahmali M who stepped in to assist the SRC Indigo-Lilly W did a very moving job of presenting the poem Sir along with Jack L Well done Kororo, a great effort from everyone O dell Principal (relieving) From the office If you see Mrs O dell over the next week, please feel free to wish her well She has 6 days left before she retires after teaching for 48 years! 3 KINDERGARTEN ANZAC VISIT For ANZAC day this year, ES1 children had the pleasure of having Ben Davoren join us and explain why it is important to celebrate ANZAC day and keep the ANZAC spirit alive The children (and teachers) were absolutely amazed As an ex serviceman he is a true hero to all of us and we thank him for coming in and talking about ANZAC day, past and present service men and women, and why mateship is so very important Thank you Ben - EMERALD BEACH COMMUNITY FAIR Sunday 29 th am 3pm A great day out for everyone ES1 Teachers Ethics Volunteers Needed! Primary Ethics now teaches over students across NSW in 450 schools with the help of 2400 volunteers The Ethics program at Kororo is growing and now has room for at least two more volunteer Ethics teachers and an Ethics coordinator Ethics teachers receive full training by Primary Ethics, which consists of a two-day workshop and short online modules Curriculum and access to teaching resources is provided We would very much like to hear from anyone who is able to commit to between 1 and 2 hours a week across this school term and next Any parents, grandparents and friends interested in becoming involved should visit wwwprimaryethicscomau where they can read all about teaching Primary Ethics and register their interest in becoming an Ethics teacher, or coordinator Please call Nick Brooks on with any questions We hope to hear from you soon!
