1 To Download Read&Write Gold on a Mac. Before you begin, you are going to need administrator s rights to allow your Mac system to download Read&Write Gold. Please have this information handy so you can proceed through the process. If you are on the ITS Network, please contact your system administrator to assist you with this process. 1) The first step requires you acquiring administrative rights to open and make the changes. 2) Go to Open Apple and choose System Preferences and then left click 3) Choose Security & Privacy and then left click 4) Choose General from the tab. Scroll to the bottom left hand corner and left click on the padlock Padlock 5) When you left click on the padlock, the administrator s permission box will open.

2 6) Enter the user name and password for your computer, NOT your SUID and Password. Left click unlock 7) The box should appear and the padlock should be open. Choose this 8) Choose Anywhere for this download instead of the Mac App Store and identified developers 9) You will get a warning!

3 10) Left click Allow From Anywhere 11) Left click on the padlock to save your changes. 12) Open your Web browser and type 13) Choose Home-Answers-Answers 14) Go to Log in. Log IN 15) Log in using your syr.edu user name and password. This is important as you will not be able to download the software if you do not.

4 16) In the search box, type Gold Choose Download Read&Write Gold. Choose this one 17) This will take you to the Read&Write Download Page. READ the terms of use because when you download, you are agreeing to the terms. 18) Scroll down to Downloads. Please choose the Mac operating system. For the Mac version, print the installation instructions as there are a number of steps. I have attached the instructions below. 19) The download will appear in your Download Folder as Read&Write Take Home dmg 20) Left Click on the folder. This will start the download. Once again, you will be asked for your Mac s administrator s username and password.

5 21) Read&Write For ITS Networked 6 Take computers, Home End User you need to have administrator s rights to download the software 22) When the Activation window appears just choose activate and a box should appear indicating that the activation was successful. Your institution has provided you with a copy of Read&Write 6 for Mac Take Home. You may have downloaded the file or been given a copy on DVD or USB. 1. Once the Take Home copy has been copied to your machine or if using a USB, navigate to the location where the parent folder is located and click the Read&Write Gold.app 2. Accept the license agreement and click OK

6 3. Click the Activate button to open the program. Notes: Clicking Skip Activation will allow 25 uses before the program will no longer open. If you click the Activate button and are prompted for an Activation Code, then a new code has been generated for this license. You must contact your institution for the current code. When provided the code, tick the Activate by telephone box and enter the code into the field. If prompted to download High Quality Voices, click Don t Ask to not be prompted again. High Quality pvoices must be provided by your institution. The Read&Write 6 splash screen will appear as the program begins to load
