There are nearly 700,000 people in the U.S. living with a brain tumor More than 500 people will be diagnosed TODAY with a brain tumor In 2015, an estimated 70,000 new cases will be diagnosed There are more than 120 different types of tumors Founded in 1973, the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) was the first national nonprofit organization dedicated solely to brain tumors for all age groups and all tumor types. For 40 years, the ABTA has been providing comprehensive resources that support the complex needs of brain tumor patients and caregivers, as well as the critical funding of research in the pursuit of breakthroughs in brain tumor diagnosis, treatment and care. Our Mission The mission of the American Brain Tumor Association is to advance the understanding and treatment of brain tumors with the goals of improving, extending and ultimately saving the lives of those impacted by a brain tumor diagnosis. We do this through interactions and engagements with brain tumor patients and their families, collaborations with allied groups and organizations, and the funding of brain tumor research.

2 The First and Only The American Brain Tumor Association was the first national organization committed to funding brain tumor research, and today it is the only national organization providing comprehensive informational resources designed to meet the complex care needs of brain tumor patients and caregivers. The American Brain Tumor Association s signature fundraising program is known as the BT5K Breakthrough for Brain Tumors Run & Walk. The ABTA is currently hosting these 5K events in 8 states. In 2015, 10,000 participants from across the country are expected to run or walk in support of those affected by a brain tumor diagnosis and are projected to collectively raise $2 million in support of the ABTA. Each event is attended by brain tumor patients, survivors, caregivers, family, friends, and supporters of the ABTA. All BT5K s feature a timed run, as well as an untimed walk. To participate in a BT5K event, participants pay a registration fee and have the option of further demonstrating their commitment to the ABTA by fundraising for the cause.
