2 COURSE DESCRIPTION Bone & Soft Tissue Tumors is designed as a comprehensive review course for orthopedic surgeons, medical and surgical oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists. Clinical, radiographic, and pathologic aspects of bone and soft tissue tumors will be discussed. Course faculty will present a state-of-the-art overview of the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal neoplasms. The latest adjunctive treatment regimens for malignant neoplasms will be emphasized. Two evening sessions have been scheduled in conjunction with the course. Tuesday evening's Stump the Faculty session will provide an opportunity for course participants to bring and review (35 mm slides of x-rays and histologic slides requested) difficult cases with faculty members. Wednesday evening's session will provide an overview of the histologic diagnosis of bone and soft tissue tumors and tumor-like conditions. COURSE HIGHLIGHTS Multidisciplinary approach to bone and soft tissue tumors Recent advances in limb salvage surgery, radiologic imaging techniques, adjunctive chemotherapy, and radiation therapy Comprehensive course syllabus and case study synopsis Faculty will review three unknown cases each day, beginning the second day of the course. Case x-rays and histologic slides will be available for review throughout the course. Microscopes will be available for case consultation with course faculty members. Participants are encouraged to bring 35 mm slides of x-rays and histologic slides of difficult cases for the Stump the Faculty session. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this continuing medical education course, participants should be able to: Discuss the work-up, biopsy, and staging of bone and soft tissue tumors Describe recent advances in imaging techniques, including MRI Explain the basic tenets of limb salvage surgery, adjunctive chemotherapy, and radiation therapy for bone and soft tissue tumors Recognize the characteristic histologic features of bone and soft tissue tumors Summarize a classification scheme for bone and soft tissue tumors Formulate a reasonable differential diagnosis when presented with imaging and histologic studies for any musculoskeletal neoplasm Attendance at this Mayo course does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures that may be discussed or taught in this course. 3 CREDIT Mayo Foundation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. Mayo Foundation designates this educational activity for a maximum of category 1 credits toward the AMA Physician s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits he/she actually spent in the activity. DATE AND LOCATION Bone & Soft Tissue Tumors: A Multidisciplinary Approach will be held January 19-23, 2004, at the Fairmont Kea Lani Maui, Wailea, Hawaii. The registration fee includes tuition, comprehensive course syllabus, continental breakfasts, refreshment breaks, and welcome reception for each attendee and one guest. Although it is not Mayo School of Continuing Medical Education policy to limit the number of registrants for a course, conference room facilities may necessitate closing of enrollment. Early registration is strongly advised. A letter of confirmation will be sent upon receipt of payment and completed registration form. Please present the confirmation letter when checking in at the meeting registration desk. Please do not consider yourself registered for this course until confirmation is received from the Mayo School of Continuing Medical Education. CANCELLATION POLICY Your registration fee, less a $75 administrative fee, will be refunded when written notification is received by the Mayo School of Continuing Medical Education before January 5, No refunds will be made after January 5, 2004.

AAA Travel has negotiated multiple airline contracts to provide attendees and their guests with the lowest available airfares. Reduced airfares are subject to availability. To take maximum advantage of discounted rates, it is strongly recommended that flights be booked 60 or more days prior to actual travel. Special car rental rates are available through Budget Rent a Car Hawaii at the Kahului Airport. A $20.00 per day underage surcharge applies to drivers years of age with a major credit card in their name. To ensure accommodations and the discounted rate, please make your reservations by December 15, 2004, and identify yourself as a participant of the Mayo Clinic Bone & Soft Tissue Tumor course. The Fairmont Kea Lani Maui is extending the special rate of $250 plus state and local taxes (currently at % and subject to change) for a one-bedroom suite. Service charges are not included in this rate. Porterage and maid gratuities will be at each individual s discretion. The hotel is pleased to extend this program rate three days prior and three days post the published course dates, based on availability. A two (2) nights deposit is required at the time of booking the reservation or no later than 14 days prior to arrival, with the balance due at check-out. 5 CHILD CARE ARRANGEMENTS Child care arrangements are the sole responsibility of the parent(s) or guardian(s). Keiki Lani, the hotel s activity center for kids, is a state-licensed facility for children between 5 and 13 years old. Keiki Lani, which means "Heavenly Children" in Hawaiian, offers supervised activities by accredited staff. Children enjoy painting coconuts, building sandcastles, exploring tidepools, learning to dance hula, and making real flower leis. Each child receives a complimentary Keiki Lani t-shirt on their first visit. The activity center can accommodate up to 19 children, so guests are encouraged to make reservations as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
