2 IT S SEPTEMBER, AND TIME TO #RunSiouxFalls! Just like you, we have been hard at work to make the 2016 Sioux Falls Marathon the best yet. The 2015 marathon marked the first year all three races were under one entity. It was a great event but from what we learned a few slight changes to the route expo and the start/finish line have been made for Your satisfaction as a runner, and spectator, is our goal and we hope you enjoy this year s event. The Sioux Falls Sports Authority is once again proud to have great partners including Sanford Health, our presenting sponsor of the Marathon Expo. Without sponsorship support, the changes made to this year s event would not have been possible. SPECTATOR GUIDE Parking at Arena The Sioux Falls Arena has ample parking spaces for all spectators and runners for the Marathon Expo and on race day, but some areas will be closed on race day. To quickly get in and out, please follow the directions at siouxfallsmarathon.com/ parking. FYI - No bags or coolers are allowed in the Arena. How to watch As with every marathon, finding the best locations to watch a family member or friend can be the most challenging part. Fortunately, we have you covered. The map on the following page includes the ideal locations to view your runner with ease. And finally, we hope you enjoy your time in Sioux Falls. The city offers a wide variety of options for all age groups. If this is your first visit, or your 100th, please take time to visit these areas. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do! RUNNER INFORMATION PACKET PICK-UPS Race packet pick-up will be available at the Sioux Falls Arena in conjunction with the Marathon Expo Presented by Sanford Health on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. BAG DROP Bag check will be located in meeting rooms 1 and 2 near the main entrance of the Sioux Falls Arena. Volunteers will provide a luggage tag that corresponds with your bib number. For security purposes, all bags will be subject to a security check. COURSE The route for the 2016 Sioux Falls Marathon is a loop course that takes you on a scenic journey around Sioux Falls. You will experience our historic downtown, Falls Park, the Sioux Falls River Greenway and our award-winning trail alongside the banks of the Big Sioux River. This course is USATF certified and a Boston qualifier. RACE TIMES All races will begin and end in the Sioux Falls Arena. Only runners will be allowed on north floor of the Arena. Marathon: 6:30 a.m. Half Marathon: 7 a.m. Miracle 5K: 7:15 a.m. AID STATIONS Water and Powerade stations will be located at miles 2, 4, 6, 7.5, 10 and 12 for the half marathon and 2, 4, 6, 7.5, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 for the full marathon. Gu Energy Gels will be available at mile 7.5 for the half marathoners and miles 16 for full marathoners. SHOWERS Changing and showering facilities will be provided at the Sioux Falls Arena at no cost to the runners. Please bring personal items including a towel. MEDICAL TEAM Members from all Sioux Falls public safety departments, and the Sanford Health team, are ready to help if needed. Medical attendees will be located at every water station throughout both courses, as well as along the route. FULL MARATHON Stop #1 9th St. and Minnesota The 8th St. and Dakota Ave. parking garage offers FREE parking. Stop #2 9th St. and Phillips Ave. Once again the runners will head north on the iconic Phillips Ave. Stop #4 Cherry Rock Park As the runners leave Falls Park they will enter the Sioux Falls Bike Trail. Cherry Rock Park is the perfect spot to watch as there is ample shade and restrooms available. Stop #5 Yankton Trail Park / Minnesota Ave. Watch your runner on the banks of the Big Sioux River. Easy access and abundant parking is available. Stop #6 41st St./ Bike Trail The Olive Garden parking lot is a perfect spot to watch your runner on the cruise down the bike trail. Stop #7 Elmen Park Trailhead The Elmen Park Trailhead is the final stop along the bike trail. There are restrooms as well as sitting areas to cheer on the runners. Stop #8 Sioux Falls Arena Stop back at the Arena to watch your runner cross the finish line. Take 12th Street west to West Ave. Continue north to access parking location at the Arena. I FINISHED! NOW WHAT? Looking for a place to grab a bite to eat, a quick drink or maybe even to fill up the gas tank? Look no further than siouxfallsmarathon.com/deals. We have developed a quick list and a handy map for you to find your spot. HALF MARATHON Stop #1 9th St. and Minnesota The 8th St. and Dakota Ave. parking garage offers FREE parking. Stop #2 9th St. and Phillips Ave. Once again the runners will head north on the iconic Phillips Ave. Stop #4 8th St. Bridge As the runners leave Falls Park they will enter the Sioux Falls Bike Trail. The 8th St. bridge allows for a unique viewing experience. Stop #5-10th St. and Phillips Ave. The runners come back through DTSF after exiting the bike trail. Stop #6 9th St. and Dakota Ave. This is the final stop downtown before the runners head back toward the Sioux Falls Arena. Stop #7 Sioux Falls Arena Stop back at the Arena to watch your runner cross the finish line. COURSE ENTERTAINMENT The Sioux Falls Marathon is thrilled to have local musical groups placed throughout this year s route. These groups will bring the fun for both our runners and spectators. 4 THE MIRACLE 5K Nearly two decades ago, the Miracle 5K was started by a group that wanted to provide support through a running event to local children battling health issues. Throughout the years the event has gone through some changes, but we are excited to announce the Miracle 5K is back and better than ever. As with past years, proceeds from the Sioux Falls Marathon will benefit the region s only Children s Miracle Network hospital, Sanford Children s. The 5K will start inside the Sioux Falls Arena just like the other races on Sunday. The route will take you through Veterans Memorial Park, along Covell Lake and eventually back to the finish inside the Arena. Along the route you will be able to get to know some of the children you are supporting. Thanks to Beal Distributing, all runners, 21 and older, and wearing a wristband will be provided one (1) complimentary beer. Wristbands can be obtained at packet pick-up on Saturday. Other food options for finishers will include Dairy Queen frozen treats, Sanford Profile bars, South Dakota Beef steak tacos and snacks provided by Hy-Vee.
