2 Welcome Racers, We proudly present the 2016 Austin Rattler MTB. This is the first race in our LRS schedule and your first chance to qualify for the legendary Leadville Trail 100 in August. It s awesome to have the 33k racers & relay teams joining the party too! You won t be disappointed in the course whether you re riding 1 lap or all 3. The venue for this challenging endurance event is the 1,500 acre Rocky Hill Ranch, approximately 40 miles east of Austin, known for loblolly pines and 42 miles of trails. The course is a 20.7 mile loop featuring a roughly half-and-half mix of fun, fast jeep roads and winding single track. You will find a full-service aid station at the Start/Finish with water, energy drinks and other nutrition, plus volunteer assistance. On course, you ll find multiple unmanned water stations. Bicycle Sport Shop and Jack & Adam s will be on hand with mechanical support. A bike wash station and indoor showers will also be available. Completion of three laps in less than seven hours qualifies you for the LT100 lottery following the race. Riders and spectators, be sure to visit the vendor expo. Don t forget your appetites and your lawn chairs: you ll be treated to live music, and refuel with post-race food and libations in the beer garden. RHR is privately owned and the property owners have worked hard to bring you a wonderful racing experience. Please be courteous and help keep the venue clean. Bicycle Sport Shop 517 S Lamar Blvd, Austin Friday, April 8 Noon - 2:00 pm Pre-ride the course with Dave Wiens and Paul Uhl. $10 Rocky Hill Ranch access fee applies. 2:00pm Athlete Meeting and Q&A with Dave Wiens at Rocky Hill Ranch. 2:00 6:00pm Registration and packet pickup at Rocky Hill Ranch. Saturday, April 9 6:30 7:00am Day-of registration and packet pickup. 7:30am Riders will position themselves on the start line at Rocky Hill Ranch based on ability. Space is first come, first served. Please do not leave your bikes unattended in the start corral. Riders holding a professional license may start in a reserved area at the front. 8:00 am START 12:00 3:00pm Band, beer, lunch and festival 12:45 pm Final lap cut-off. All riders attempting the 3rd lap must be through the Start/Finish. 3:00 pm Official finish time. Riders must finish by this time to be eligible for the lottery. 3:30 pm - Allocation of Qualifier Awards and Lottery - approximately 30 minutes after race. 3

4 DIRECTIONS TO ROCKY HILL RANCH From Austin: Take Hwy 71 EAST toward Bastrop. In Bastrop, you will go over the Colorado River Bridge and come to an intersection with a traffic light. Go straight at the light toward Smithville. The highway becomes Hwy 95 SOUTH to Smithville. Watch for a brown Texas Parks sign for Buescher State Park/Hwy 153. Take the first exit for Smithville and turn left at the stop sign. Continue down Hwy 153 for 2.3 miles from Hwy 71, past the Buescher State Park entrance. Shortly thereafter, you will see the entrance to Rocky Hill Ranch on your left, marked by Texas flags on rock columns. From Houston: Take I-10 WEST toward Columbus. Just past the city of Columbus, merge onto Hwy 71 WEST toward La Grange. Continue down Hwy 71 through La Grange and onto Smithville. Watch for a brown Texas Parks sign for Buescher State Park/Hwy 153. Take the last exit for Smithville and turn right at the stop sign. Continue down Hwy 153 for 2.3 miles from Hwy 71, past the Buescher State Park entrance. Shortly thereafter, you will see the entrance to Rocky Hill Ranch on your left, marked by Texas flags on rock columns. From Dallas: Take I-10 WEST toward Columbus. Bear left after coming through the ranch entrance. Look for the signs and follow instructions from our volunteers. 4

5 CAMPING AT ROCKY HILL RANCH Ice and firewood can be purchased at the food trailer. Fees: Fee for Day Use is $10 per person, per day. Day Use includes mountain biking, hiking, trail running and picnics. Tent Camping: Fee for tent camping overnight is $15 per tent, per night. A $10 Day Use fee per person, per day, also applies. Children ages 12 and under receive free admission. RV Camping: To make an RV reservation, call (512) OR Pam Hill at greyhill@aol.com. Fee for RV camping overnight is $30 per RV spot, per night. A $10 Day Use fee per person, per day also applies. Amenities: Showers and bathrooms are provided for all ranch visitors. 5

6 IMPORTANT INFORMATION You MUST HAVE your ID to pick up your packet. You CANNOT pick up a packet for your friends. You MUST HAVE your number plate on your bicycle. The race starts at 8:00am Saturday, April 9th. To qualify and be eligible for the lottery, solo racers must complete three laps IN LESS THAN 7 HOURS. Awards start at approximately 3:30pm! Awards are 3 deep per category/division. RULES Helmets must be worn when on the bike, and your chin strap must be buckled. Unsportsmanlike conduct and littering is grounds for disqualification. Abandonment no garbage, clothing, etc., shall be thrown on the course, ranch etc. DNFs must be reported to timing. No pets on course. No earphones at the start. Please pick up your trash! 6

7 QUALIFIER EXPLANATION Each Leadville Qualifying Series race provides qualifying slots to the Leadville Trail 100 MTB, based on the total number of registered riders at each qualifier event. Half of the qualifying spots will be allocated based on the top age-group performances and half will be drawn among riders who have successfully completed the race under the 7 hour cut off. 1. For 2016, the Austin Rattler will be allocated 100 slots, based on the number of registered riders % of slots will be distributed based on performance in the qualifying event. a. Slots will be distributed to each gender and age group (18+, 20-29, 30-39, etc.) based on the percentage of total athletes in those age groups, with a minimum of 1 slot for every age group. b. The top athletes in each age group will receive the allocated slots. c. In the event a top athlete elects not to accept a slot, the slot will roll down to the next athlete in the results, within the age group. d. In the event slots are not claimed after the roll down in each age group, those slots will be allocated to the Event Lottery, as described below. e. One slot will be allocated for the top single speed rider. f. Slots will be allocated to the top tandem team % of slots will be distributed through the Event Lottery. a. All finishers under the pre-determined maximum finish time of seven hours, will be asked to place their bib# ticket in the lottery hat after the award ceremony. b. Numbers will be drawn from the eligible lottery athletes and slots will be given out. c. In the event an athlete opts not to accept a slot, the slots will roll down to the next athlete that is drawn, until ALL slots have been distributed. 4. Qualification slots must be claimed in person immediately. 5. Registration for the Leadville Trail 100 must be completed and paid for within the next 3 days. 6. For the 2016 Qualifiers, riders may elect to race in the Leadville Trail 100 for 2016 or defer until Registration information will be provided in a qualifier envelope with instructions. Through the registration process, riders will be asked to select the year they prefer to race. 7. Only solo riders will be considered as potential qualifiers. Relays are welcome to race qualifier events where available but will not be considered as a potential qualifier. 8. All registration fees for the LT100 are non-transferrable and non-refundable. 7

8 LT100 MTB CORRAL/START POSITION As one of the most well known mountain bike races on earth, getting into the Leadville Trail 100 MTB has always been difficult. LT100 Qualifiers are long and tough, with lots of climbing. They are similar to the classic course at Leadville in that they consist mainly of rugged jeep roads of gravel and dirt. A qualifier event could not only gain you entry into the LT100 MTB, but it could also boost your corral starting position in the Race Across the Sky! Rider starting positions will be organized in color-coded corrals. These positions will be based on a finish time from the 2015 (year prior only) LT100 MTB race, a 2015 or 2016 qualifier event finish time, or if you hold a current USCI Pro Elite XC license. Please enter finish times or license numbers when prompted during the registration process. If you wish for us to consider your finish time in Austin for corralling in Leadville, please Abby Long at along@lifetimefitness.com by April 30. Please know that corralling is not done automatically. Include your name, Austin Rattler finish time and a nice note! 8
