IoT technologies enable intelligent services for the citizens, smart transport and mobility, and are essential for the connected health services, and help in reducing energy consumption and waste. But this is not all, IoT and its sister concept Industrial Internet are behind the disruption named as Third industrial revolution. They are essential for the competitiveness of companies and the most significant source of economic growth and employment in years to come. What will the Third industrial revolution bring to companies, local authorities, research and education and what should we do about it? 24 Tue 5th May, 2015 Session 3: Open and agile smart cities (Vaunumaakari 2) Open & Agile Smart Cities - connecting cities with open data, open interfaces and open processes. Cities across the globe are looking for ways to spur open innovation. Innovation is needed to overcome the digital transition of cities, and it needs to be open to include a variety of stakeholders of the whole urban community, and to establish a competitive but attractive market for developers, increasing quality and avoiding vendor lock-ins. One city is not a market, however. A sizable market consists of cities in several countries, or a continent. We need global "de facto standards for portability and interoperability to create a true global market for smart city services, so that developers can start investing in civic technologies and public-private innovation partnerships. To achieve this, 31 cities from 7 countries (and counting) have joined forces under the Open & Agile Smart Cities (OCAS) initiative. OASC kickstarts the use of a shared set of ways to developing systems once and making them interoperable between cities across borders. Simple, functional and minimal standard ways of accessing and exchanging data have the potential to boost up the speed of smart city innovations and marketplace. The mechanisms used in OASC are pragmatic, simple and open: driven-by-implementation approach, open APIs (FIWARE NGSI), open data models (CitySDK) and open data/api publication platforms (CKAN). In this highly interactive session urban innovators are invited to discuss about opportunities of open urban development with the experts from the European Commission, Open Knowledge Foundation and the OASC initiative. Chair: Jarmo Eskelinen, CEO, Forum Virium Helsinki; President, European Network of Living Labs; Vice-chair, Open & Agile Smart Cities Network Co-Chair: Anna-Maija Hietajärvi, Researcher, University of Oulu - Adriënne Heijnen, Senior Adviser, Aarhus University - Antti Poikola, Researcher, Helsinki Institute for Information Technology; Director of Open Knowledge Finland - Olavi Luotonen, Scientific Officer, Experimental Platforms, DG CONNECT at European Commission

28 Tue 5th May, 2015 Session 7: Innovation policy - Implications of new business logic (Kivitaneli) Usefulness of the decades-old hegemonic concepts such as clusters, value chains and core competences is beginning to decline. Internet economy has changed the economic environment remarkably: central terms of the new business logic are business and innovation ecosystems, development platforms, technology adjacencies, value networks, crowdsourcing etc. As business logics change, innovation policy must respond to this development and to the policy challenges posed by it by changing considerably in the near future. Despite its potential there are very rare cases where a living lab has become a sustainable innovation service provider and an attractive partner to enterprises and municipalities. The challenges of living labs to be discussed by the panelists are: How living labs are integrated to local innovation ecosystems? How enterprises can benefit from living labs in their new business and product introduction? How public procurement can benefit from living labbing? What service offering makes a living lab attractive to enterprises? What are the key elements of sustainable living lab? It is ideal for 3D based visualisations and very usable for different kind of construction and mechanical engineering and design e.g. for big buildings, bridges, ships, industrial machinery or even power plants. With the help of Cave equipment construction drawings can be visualized in a way that people are able to understand. The newly opened Cave allows users to see objects apparently floating in the air, and can walk around them, getting a proper view of what they look like in reality. The reality is enhanced by using the 1:1 scale, high-quality 3D-modeling and the surround sound, where needed. The Organ Hall has been built especially for the organ. It is a very resonant space, which takes the voiced characteristics of the instrument into account. The organ has two manuals and 21 stops. It has been built by Mr Martti Porthan. The organ is a stylistic copy of a similar sized instrument built by the German master organ-builder Gottfried Silbermann and represents the style of the 18th century. 43 Future-Power business simulation game Mon 4th May, 2015 Future is all about action Future Power - Is your business in capable hands? POHTO is a pioneer in the area of functional education. Good experiences with functional learning led to the construction of the new Future-Power modeling environment. It is a unique place to practice actual business operations and group processes as well as communication in a realistic environment where people themselves are physically present. Future-Power visualizes issues and phenomena that are hard to comprehend, so that they can be sensed, experienced, and learned by doing. Market oriented thinking and competence as well as connection between strategy and its implementation in business development forms the basis in this business simulation. Participants in the management training environment learn and practice, among other things, business planning, implementation of strategic goals, operative management and leadership. The business simulation can be modified to the needs of any company or business sector. The new Future-Power expands analysis to include themes of managing the innovation process, change, and the future. In business simulations, companies can pretest the commercialization of innovations, for example, before launching them on the market.
