Tue 5th May, 2015 Session 2. Internet of Things for renewing industries (Vaunukamari 1) Internet of Things is a key enabler for Smart City. IoT technologies enable intelligent services for the citizens, smart transport and mobility, and are essential for the connected health services, and help in reducing energy consumption and waste. But this is not all, IoT and its sister concept Industrial Internet are behind the disruption named as Third industrial revolution. They are essential for the competitiveness of companies and the most significant source of economic growth and employment in years to come. What will the Third industrial revolution bring to companies, local authorities, research and education and what should we do about it? Join us in the interesting session about IoT renewing the industries. 24 Tue 5th May, 2015 Session 3: Open and agile smart cities (Vaunumaakari 2) Open & Agile Smart Cities - connecting cities with open data, open interfaces and open processes. Cities across the globe are looking for ways to spur open innovation. Innovation is needed to overcome the digital transition of cities, and it needs to be open to include a variety of stakeholders of the whole urban community, and to establish a competitive but attractive market for developers, increasing quality and avoiding vendor lock-ins. One city is not a market, however. A sizable market consists of cities in several countries, or a continent. We need global "de facto standards for portability and interoperability to create a true global market for smart city services, so that developers can start investing in civic technologies and public-private innovation partnerships. To achieve this, 31 cities from 7 countries (and counting) have joined forces under the Open & Agile Smart Cities (OCAS) initiative. OASC kickstarts the use of a shared set of ways to developing systems once and making them interoperable between cities across borders. Simple, functional and minimal standard ways of accessing and exchanging data have the potential to boost up the speed of smart city innovations and marketplace. The mechanisms used in OASC are pragmatic, simple and open: driven-by-implementation approach, open APIs (FIWARE NGSI), open data models (CitySDK) and open data/api publication platforms (CKAN). In this highly interactive session urban innovators are invited to discuss about opportunities of open urban development with the experts from the European Commission, Open Knowledge Foundation and the OASC initiative. Interactive discussion: Chair: Jarmo Eskelinen, CEO, Forum Virium Helsinki Sessioon Manager: Anna-Maija Hietajärvi, Researcher, University of Oulu - Adriënne Heijnen, Senior Adviser, Aarhus University - Antti Poikola, Researcher, HIIT; Director of Open Knowledge Finland - Olavi Luotonen, Scientific Officer, Experimental Platforms, DG CONNECT at European Commission

Tue 5th May, 2015 Session 4: Smart city business models (Vaunumaakari 2) The interactive session will focus on alternative and opportunity providing business models employed in smart cities by the cities themselves or the different stakeholders playing an active role in smart cities. Special attention is paid to ICT technology enabled smart services and utilities business models, both currently used, alternative, or to be developed for smart cities. Presentation and discussion Chair: Catherine Mulligan, Head of Digital Strategy and Economics at Future Cities Catapult and Research Fellow at Imperial College, London Session manager: Aki Pekuri, Researcher, University of Oulu - Petri Ahokangas, Associate Professor, Oulu Business School, University of Oulu - Ville Valovirta, Senior Scientist, VTT We reserve the right to make changes to this program

Tue 5th May, 2015 Session 5: Creative economy ecosystems (Kamarineuvos) IF - the creative industries have been seen to become increasingly important to economic well-being, proponents suggesting that "human creativity is the ultimate economic resource". AND - smart city uses digital technologies to enhance performance and wellbeing, to reduce costs and resource consumption and to engage more effectively and actively with its citizens. MOREOVER - key 'smart' sectors include transport, energy, health care, water and waste. DO WE SEE - creative economy, ecosystems between creative industries and these key sectors as a highway to Smart City? 27 Tue 5th May, 2015 Session 6: Citizen participation, crowdsourcing and social media (Kamarineuvos) Crowdsourcing and social media - changing the decision making processes for companies as well as for cities? Social media services and social intranets are widely used in engaging employees, customers or citizens to participate in everything from product development to municipal decision making. What's the situation in Finland? How and why to do it, pros and cons? Decision making process are becoming open, see-through processes, rather than shady meeting rooms and behind closed doors. Why and what does it mean? Chair: Tom Laine, CEO, Innopinnon Co-Chair: Päivi Lohikoski, Researcher, University of Oulu - Jari Jussila, Project Manager, Novi Research Center, Tampere University of Technology - Peter Green, Co-Founder, Zee.do - Pia Erkinheimo, Head of Crowds & Communities, Digile Ltd - Minna Rantama, VotingAid Expert, ZEF Oy - Mikko Järvilehto, Founder, CEO, Innovaatiomestarit Ltd, Futuretournaments Ltd We reserve the right to make changes to this program

Tue 5th May, 2015 Session 7: Innovation policy - Implications of new business logic (Kivitaneli) Usefulness of the decades-old hegemonic concepts such as clusters, value chains and core competences is beginning to decline. Internet economy has changed the economic environment remarkably: central terms of the new business logic are business and innovation ecosystems, development platforms, technology adjacencies, value networks, crowdsourcing etc. As business logics change, innovation policy must respond to this development and to the policy challenges posed by it by changing considerably in the near future. Session focuses on the guidelines of this new innovation policy. Chair: Vesa Harmaakorpi, Professor, Lappeenranta University of Technology Co-Chair: Satu Rinkinen, Doctoral Student, Lappeenranta University of Technology - Bror Salmelin, Adviser for Innovation Systems, European Commission, DG Connect - Reijo Paajanen, CEO, Digile Ltd - Timo Hämäläinen, Sitra Fellow at Finnish Innovation Fund, Sitra - Kaisa Still, Research Scientist, VTT

Tue 5th May, 2015 Session 8: Living lab as an engine of growth (Kivitaneli) Living lab is a user-centered, open-innovation ecosystem, often operating in a definite context, integrating concurrent research and innovation processes within a public-private-people partnership. Despite its potential there are very rare cases where a living lab has become a sustainable innovation service provider and an attractive partner to enterprises and municipalities. The challenges of living labs to be discussed by the panelists are: How living labs are integrated to local innovation ecosystems? How enterprises can benefit from living labs in their new business and product introduction? How public procurement can benefit from living labbing? What service offering makes a living lab attractive to enterprises? What are the key elements of sustainable living lab? Chair: Reijo Kohonen, Professor, Managing Partner, Kasvutehdas KATE Co-Chair: Tuomo Kinnunen, Projet Manager, University of Oulu - Marita Holst, Senior Project Manager at Centre for Distance-Spanning Technology, LTU - Marjukka Manninen, Municipal Manager, Tyrnävä - Satu Väinämö, Program Coordinator, Oulu Urban Living lab (OULLabs) - Nicola Doppio, Project Manager, Smart Crowds, Research Action Unit, Trento Rise - Esko Juuso, President, Eurosim

More information of smart site visits Mon 4th May, 2015 UBIKO learning environment is a research based development project aiming to renew the school and to understand what kind of school promotes inspired and skillful learners. We would like our pupils to be aware of their own abilities so they can set personal goals for their learning and modify those if necessary. They should be able to utilize efficient learning strategies in their studies and to monitor and evaluate the attainment of their goals. To support their learning pupils should know how and when to modify and regulate their learning environment. Ubiko learning environment is developed in the Oulu University Teacher Training School.
