4 4 About Ksd Fet College Who Are We? We are one of fifty (50) public Further Education and Training Colleges countrywide that specializes in priority skills development. King Sabata Dalindyebo is one of eight FET Colleges in the Eastern Cape Province. It has seven campuses. Three are in KSD Municipality namely Maphuzi, Mthatha and Zimbane campuses; the other two are in Nyandeni Local Municipality namely Libode and Mngazi Campus; Ngcobo Municipality has Ngcobo Campus and in Elliotdale there is a campus called Ntabuzuko in the Mbashe Local Municipality. Students who study at KSD FET College get a head start to a great career due to a focus on technical and vocational training programmes that are responsive and relevant to the develop of critical and scarce skills. FET Colleges are part of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) under the leadership of Minister Blade Nzimande. Universities of Technology and Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) form part of this ministry. The focus of the DHET is set on addressing the skills shortages of our country by steadily increasing the number of students enrolled and trained in priority and critical skills. Youth who are categorized as NEETs (that is Not in Education or Employment nor in Training) is the niche target market that the DHET wishes to equip with the requisite skills in order to address the triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and equity.

5 5 Admission Policy Admission requirements to learning programmes are based on the entry-level requirements for each learning programme as contained in the NQF and vary for each programme. The College has an approved learning programme and Residence fee structure and payment terms. Processing of the admission application is subject to payment of the application fee as stipulated by the College on submission of the application form. Student admission is subject to the candidate meeting all entry-level requirements, learning programme vacancies, fee payment (less any scholarship, fee waiver or reduction), acceptance of the Student Code of Conduct and the candidates previous learning history at a FET College or any other similar educational institution, provision of or a display of knowledge of outside formal learning environment. The College offers pre-admission Student guidance and support. For applicants whose performance is not satisfactory, admission committee will refer such applicant to placement assessment however all applicants may be expected to undergo placement testing prior admission Student at the College level refers to anyone who is registered and binded by the above prerequisites, liability to pay the prescribed fees and furnish the college with up to date contact details The College admission process is fair, transparent and ethical Admission will take place within the set time frames Academic exclusion, registration for the same level for a period more than two years won t be allowed. The student won t be allowed to pursue with the programme however might be allowed to change to the other disciplines.

6 6 Class Attendance Students should take full responsibility for their class attendance. The following conditions will apply to the above mentioned policy: Students must realize that post school education has extensive financial implications to parents, bursary schemes and donors. It is therefore the responsibility of the college to protect the interest of these persons and institutions that are responsible for the payment of class and hostel fees. Students cannot limitless study full-time and be unsuccessful in their studies due to poor attendance. Attendance, unsatisfactory test, assignments and practical s can lead to a suspension of the full-time students any time of the year. Regular attendance and satisfactory academic performance is expected from students It is the responsibility of the students to devise ways to recover the time lost due to absenteeism. A zero mark will be awarded to students missed an official test/test without submission of a medical certificate Official test dates and assignment dates will be announced timeously by the relevant lecturers. Students must attend at least 80% per subject and maintain if stipulated the term mark to be eligible to write examinations. Each programme/discipline has its own rules. At the end of each term students will be evaluated according to attendance, test results, internal examinations results and assignments. Should these be unsatisfactory, the student can be refused permission to write final examinations and further attend as a full-time student.

7 7 Disciplinary Policy The disciplinary policy and procedure is intended to provide a fair and consistent approach in matter of student discipline. They are linked to the College Code of Conduct, which sets out the rules governing acceptable behaviour. The disciplinary procedure is part of a student`s enrolment conditions and will be binding on the student from the moment of enrolment. Disciplinary action is based on the application of the College Code of Conduct. Some breaches of the Code will require an informal response while repeated or more serious misconduct will necessitate application of the Formal procedure. The SRC chairperson will educate and assist you with any disciplinary inquiry/procedure against you and your right to appeal against such an outcome Admission Procedure Enrollment Procedure - New Students Follow this five step process, and your registration at KSD FET College should be problem free: Step 1: Student obtains an application form at the reception/registration office. Student ensures that the form is completed in full and all the necessary documents are attached, including proof of payment of the application fee (R30) which should be deposited to the college account (see banking details below). He/She also completes a bursary form and hands both forms to the student registration office. Step 2: Student must do means test Step 3: Student is called for a PACE test* *An assessment test conducted by the college Step 4: Once accepted, student deposits the initial fee required for registration to the college bank account. Please note that this fee is non-refundable. Step 5: Student returns the proof of payment to the student registration office for capturing. Step 6: Once registered on the system, student will be issued with a letter of registration and a student card. Students who require accommodation proceed to register for hostel accommodation.

8 8 National Certif icate Vocational Nc(v) This high standard, knowledge and high quality vocational qualification is directly addressing the skills shortages in South Africa. Students are doing 60% practical and 40&theory.The 4 Vocational subjects /Electives are career orientated. The following programmes are offered at KSD FET College. 21 21 Financial Aid Scheme (National Financial Aid Scheme) In order to be eligible to apply for the DHET bursary managed by NSFAS, a student must meet the following criteria. a) Be a South African Citizen. b) Must be a registered student at the college or intend to register. c) Must be Financially need and must be academic deserving. Information to be attached on the Application Form a) Two Certified copies of Identity Document certified by the SAPS. b) Applicant Home address (proof of home address). c) Salary advice if parents are working or an affidavit if parents are not working. d) Death Cetificates if parents are deceased certified by the SAPS. e) Number of family members in a household for the purpose of means test f ) Copies of results must be attached while applying.

The skills programmes are self-funded except for the Department of Communications Sponsored International Computer Driving Licence group/s. Internships With the help of ETDP, Services and Wholesale and Retail SETAs, the college is now able to place its graduates for work experience in order to qualify for the qualification (Diploma).
