1 INSTRUCTIONS: Right now there is a special opportunity to tutor Long Island High School students in mathematics and science at all different levels in these areas: Algebra Trigonometry Geometry Pre-calculus Calculus Statistics General Science Chemistry Physics Biology Earth Science Environmental Science Tutors will receive payment in the form of a check ($1,000 for every 100 hours of tutoring performed.) Please follow the directions to complete the forms needed to apply. After we receive your paperwork, we will contact qualified applicants for an interview. 1. Check to see if you meet the minimum qualifications before you apply. Minimum Qualifications Full-time or part-time Dowling College student A GPA of 3.0 or higher in your major and an overall GPA of at least 2.5 Strong communication skills Ability to obtain two (2) recommendations from college* faculty (one must be completed by a faculty member who teaches the subject matter which you are interested in tutoring). Ability to make a full semester-long commitment to tutoring Provide own transportation to and from high schools 2. Fill out the Student Tutor Application in its entirety. 3. Obtain a copy of your current transcripts. Freshmen should submit High School transcripts. 4. Ask two of your professors to fill out the Faculty Reference Form. One of the forms must be completed by a professor who teaches the subject matter which you are interested in tutoring. *Freshmen may ask one of their former high school teachers to complete one of the Faculty Reference Forms. Transfer students may ask a professor from their previous college or university to complete one of the Faculty Reference Forms. 5. Return the completed packet to the Student Employment Office, Human Resources, KSC 011, Dowling College Rudolph Campus in Oakdale.
