2 THE FACTS SESSION DATE AND TIMES: Courses will meet Monday through Thursday, May 31 through July 7; no classes on Monday, July 4th. Classes run daily 8:00 am 12:00 pm. COURSE FEES: The fees for the summer program are as follows: Onsite course $ for District #200 residents; $ for non residents. Driver s Education Classroom Instruction $ Driver s Education Behind the Wheel $ Illinois Virtual High School $ REGISTRATION AND FEE PAYMENT: Registration forms and fees need to be turned into your school counselor at Woodstock High School or Woodstock North High School. Your counselor s signature is required to verify course selection and scheduling. Out of district students should contact Patricia Williams, Summer School Principal, 227 W. Judd Street, Woodstock, IL Registration forms and fees should be submitted as soon as possible to allow for as many courses as possible to be offered. Walk in and mail in registration will be accepted through April 29, Checks should be made payable to District #200 Summer School Program. Summer School is an optional program. Therefore, there is no consideration for a reduction or a waiver of Summer School fees. Any student wishing to register after April 29, 2016 will be charged a $25.00 late fee, if the course is not already closed due to enrollment limitations. If you withdraw from a class after May 6th, you will be charged a $25 processing fee. OUT OF DISTRICT STUDENTS: Students from other school districts are welcome in the District #200 Summer School Program with the exception of Driver Education. Out of district students will be required to pay additional fees and be expected to behave in the manner that is appropriate to the school setting. Please pay particular notice to the registration form where it asks for a parent s signature to allow the release of transcripts. In order to assure prompt contact with your home school regarding credit earned, this form must be completed. TRANSPORTATION: Parents are responsible for the transportation of their children. They should see that their student is on time for class and picked up immediately following class. District #200 is not responsible for accidents that occur during unsupervised activities. ATTENDANCE: Students are expected to be in attendance every day. Upon the third (3) absence the student will be dropped from the course with no credit or refund. No exceptions are made for any reason. ENROLLMENT: It is necessary that a minimum class enrollment of 20 be reached before an onsite class can be held. Driver s Education Behind The Wheel and courses through the Illinois Virtual High School do not have specific minimum enrollments. In the event that the minimum is not attained for an onsite class, the class will be canceled and each registered student will be notified. The student will have the option to switch to another class or a refund will be issued.

3 ONSITE COURSES 2503 ART AND DESIGN CONCEPTS 0013 FRESHMAN ENGLISH This course is only open to students who have failed a semester of Freshman English GEOGRAPHY 1503 SSA WORLD HISTORY 1503 SSB This course is only open to students who have failed a semester of World History. They must pass the appropriate final exam to receive credits CONSUMER EDUCATION This course is not open to incoming freshmen SSA GEOSCIENCE 1053 SSB This course is only open to students who have failed a semester of Geoscience SSA BIOLOGY 1023 SSB This course is only open to students who have failed a semester of Biology ODYSSEYWARE COURSES This instructional option involves individual course work via a computer with an instructor to successfully recover lost credits. The one fee covers the entire summer program; more than one course could be completed. Please refer to the D200 Curriculum Guide for a complete description of these courses. You may access the guide on the school s website Successful completion of one of these courses will result in earning 5 semester credit hours unless noted.

4 DRIVER EDUCATION 6113 Driver s Education Program This program has two components: Classroom Instruction and Behind the Wheel instruction. This course is structured to meet the requirements established by the State of Illinois and the Illinois Board of Education. It is mandated that you have previously taken or are currently enrolled in the classroom instruction course in order to be considered eligible for the Behind the Wheel component of the class. To be eligible for a driver s license, students must receive 6 clock hours of behind the wheel instruction. Criteria for Enrollment into The Driver Education Program 30 classroom hours and age 15 by May 31, Must have passed eight (8) classes in the previous two (2) semesters enrolled. While you may complete all the registration forms, pay all the fees, and reserve your space, failure to meet the criteria will result in removal from the course and refund of fees. All registration fees and forms for driver education must be submitted to Rebecca Goers at Woodstock High School. Questions regarding driver education should also be directed to Rebecca Goers via at rgoers@wcusd200.org or by phone at (815) Classroom Instruction (Monday Thursday) Date: May 31 July 7, 2016 Times: Session I 8:00 am 9:45 am Session II 10:00 am 11:45 am Credit: 2.5 semester hours Fees: Classroom Instruction $ State of Illinois Permit $20 Behind the Wheel Instruction Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday (Drive and Observation time will be a total of one hour per day per student) Date: May 31 June 23, 2016 Times: Session I 7:00 am 8:00 am Session II 8:00 am 10:00 am Session III 10:00 am 12:00 PM Session IV 12:00 pm 2:00 pm Credit: 1 semester hour Fees: Behind The Wheel Instruction $265 A STUDENT MUST ATTEND ONE OF THE MANDATORY MEETINGS LISTED BELOW TO ENROLL IN THE SUMMER BEHIND THE WHEEL DRIVER EDUCATION COMPONENT. All participants of the summer program must attend one of these meetings. The written permit test and student vision test will be available at this meeting for those who need to complete this portion of the process. If you wear glasses or contacts, please bring them to the meeting with you. The application for instructional permit will also be completed at this meeting for anyone who needs to complete this process. Please bring a black pen and pencil with you to the meeting listed below. Choose one of the two following meetings to attend: Wednesday, April 20 3:30 pm at Woodstock HS Room E285 Thursday, April 21 3:30 pm at Woodstock North HS Room C240 Final schedules for the behind the wheel summer program will be posted in the display case outside of the Driver s Education classrooms by May 13 th.

5 ILLINOIS VIRTUAL HIGH SCHOOL The Illinois Virtual High School, where students are provided with online courses taught by federally designated, highly qualified teachers is available to you. This is an opportunity for you to work independently from home online and take courses that meet your needs with the assistance of a distance teacher. The eight week summer term is June 2 through August 11. The following courses will be available to you during the summer school session at a cost of $ Registration must occur through your school counselor. BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS Consumer Education: (5 credits) LANGUAGE ARTS British Literature: 1st semester content (5 credits) British Literature: 2nd semester content (5 credits) Creative Writing: (5 credits) World Literature: 1st semester content (5 credits) World Literature: 2nd semester content (5 credits) Completion of a summer school English course does not exempt a student from the requirement to take an English course each semester of high school attendance.
