2 2 Orientation Leaders are UArts students who assist in the implementation of orientation programs for all new undergraduate students at The University of the Arts. They work closely with the Coordinator for New Student Programming and the Office of Student Life. Applications for becoming a Fall 2013 Orientation Leader are open to all who will be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status students during the school year; preference will be given to students who have demonstrated leadership on campus. Please be sure to complete all parts of the application. Completed applications are due by Monday, February 18 th at 5pm. Applications can be submitted in person to the Office of Student Life located in Room 309 of the Gershman Y or by to lmayweather@uarts.edu. Please be aware group interviews will take place on Sunday February 24 th. Why become an Orientation Leader? If you are looking to gain leadership skills, give back to the UArts community, and make a difference for others becoming an Orientation Leader (OL) would be great for you. Being an OL is a great opportunity to practice your leadership, time management, and social skills. For a week at the beginning of the school year you have the opportunity to shape the experience of the newest UArts community members. This is an opportunity to leave a mark! What you give: Advice on being a student at UArts. Serve as a role model to new students. Provide new students with a general introduction to the University and its functions. Lead discussions around topics such as diversity, alcohol, and safety. Provide encouragement and support for new students. Encourage group interaction. Ensure student attendance at all orientation events. What you get: A fun and informative training program that will prepare you for your role as an Orientation Leader. Valuable presentation and facilitation skills. The chance to meet hundreds of new students. Free food during the orientation programs. Stipend See next page for more information about payment. 3 3 Qualifications: Must have attained Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status for school year Applicants must be in good academic and judicial standing. Demonstrated leadership skills, initiative, motivation, and professionalism. Ability to work as a team member. Ability to adapt to new situations. Ability to work with diverse populations. Enthusiasm and positive attitude. Must be available for the following dates: o April 9, 2013 at 8pm-9:30pm (Orientation Staff Meet & Greet) o August 22-September 3, 2013 (Training & Orientation) Application Process: All applications must be typed and are due by Monday, February 18th at 5pm. When the application is turned in the applicant will receive more information on the group interview. Group interviews will be held in the afternoon of Sunday February 24, The group interview allows us to see your potential to work in group settings, as much of orientation involves group work. After the group interviews, all applicants will then have an individual interview. Individual interviews will take place March 4-7, Offers to be a Fall 2013 Orientation Leader will be made by the end of March; offers must be accepted within one week of offer being extended. Training: Training for orientation will take place from Thursday August 22, 2013 until the end of Wednesday, August 28, 2013 ( will follow from 8/29-9/3). All Orientation Leaders must be present and participate fully during all training days. Payment: Orientation Leaders will be compensated with a $250 stipend at the completion of Orientation. Stipends are typically received 3-4 weeks after orientation is completed. Good Academic and Judicial Standing Student Affairs will examine academic and judicial records of applicants to ensure good academic and judicial standing at The University of the Arts. Please be advised that a judicial record will not necessarily prohibit an offer of employment being made, but will be used in the consideration process. Questions?
