2 UX Design often relates to web development and design, but it can relate to any user interface or product and how humans interact and react to the experience of using them. In this presentation the web based area will be our main focus. A lot of UX best practices are simply Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or psychology research that has been translated or applied to the internet. It takes a good blend of right and left brain thinking to perform this job. A UX Designer makes the experience easy and intuitive and creates stuff people will actually want to use. But of course, if you dig deeper, it s really how it works......a lot of people in our industry haven t had very diverse experiences. So they don t have enough dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solutions without a broad perspective on the problem. 11 Changes Anticipated in the Next 5-7 Years This is a new position that will only continue to materialize as web use via mobile devices, tablets, etc. grows. App Developer Market Research Data Miner Educational or Admissions Consultants Elder Care Sustainability Expert User Experience Design Millenial Generational Expert Social Media Manager Chief Listening Officer Cloud Computing Services The truth is we are all very new at this......there are many different breeds of practitioners that fall within the user experience umbrella. Forsee this area growing as technology and the web continue to grow. Additionally, should see more definition in separating User Experience specialties and roles. Tightening of the scattered, unstructured group that exists now.. More community.

12 Challenges of the Position Some companies might not see the value or recognize the necessity of the position. They may think that good user experience is an add-on, not a base requirement. There are many different titles: information architect, user experience architect, interaction designer, usability engineer, design analyst, and on and on... and they don t all mean the same thing to every person or company. The biggest misconception is that [companies] have a choice to invest in their user s experience. 13 Certifications Several forums indicated that if someone says there is a certification for user experienc designer that it is a joke. moreso could get certs for web development but not a necessity. No Certificates Required!!!!! No certifications are necessary for this position.. Employers will be more interested in past experience. Definitely need a portfolio showing prior work.

14 What part of the business does a User Experience Designer report to...? Is it a large or small company? Depends on the type of business.. Is it in-house or consulting work? Could report to CIO, Creative Director, Project Director, Marketing Manager, etc...
